An infinite position lift chair is a power lift recliner with separate motors for the backrest and the footrest, so you can stop at any combination of angles, including a fully flat sleep position and zero gravity.
The chairs on this page are the infinite position lift chairs we keep on the floor in Brampton and deliver assembled across the GTA. Sit in them here, or book a free home assessment. See the full range on lift chairs near me.
Infinite position vs 3-position lift chairs
A 3-position lift chair uses one motor, so the back and footrest travel together. An infinite position lift chair uses two motors, so the back and the legs can sit at different angles. That is the difference that lets someone raise swollen legs while still watching television, or sleep fully flat.
| Feature | 3-position | Infinite position |
|---|---|---|
| Motors | One motor. Back and footrest move together. | Separate motors. Back and footrest move independently. |
| Sleep | Near-flat nap. Not a night-after-night sleep surface. | Fully flat sleep position. |
| Zero gravity | No. | Yes. Knees above the heart. |
| Legs up, back upright | No. | Yes. Useful for swelling and circulation. |
| Typical use | Evening television and reading. | All-day chair, overnight sleep, edema, reflux. |
How to choose an infinite position lift chair
An infinite position lift chair is sized to the person sitting in it, not to the sofa it replaces. Come to the Brampton showroom or book a free assessment and we will measure seat depth, back height and wall clearance before anyone pays.
- Seat depth so the feet reach the floor when the chair tilts forward. Too deep and the lift does not help.
- Wall clearance. Pride VivaLift models typically need 14 to 16 inches (36 to 41 cm) behind the chair.
- Battery backup. Pride VivaLift chairs include a lithium backup so the chair can still run if the power fails.
- Heat and massage only if the chair will be used for long stretches. Twenty minutes in the evening does not earn the extra cost.
- Zero gravity if back or hip pain is the reason for buying. It is a position on an infinite chair, not a third category.
We stock Pride VivaLift and Golden Technologies infinite position chairs, including Golden Twilight models that add extra tilt motors. Try them at Unit 7, 15 Fisherman Drive, Brampton, or call 905 451-7743.
Funding help for a lift chair in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund lift chairs, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), extended health plans, and community programs, and a lift chair's lift mechanism may qualify as a medical expense on a Canadian tax return when prescribed.
Westin Healthcare is an ADP authorized vendor for eligible mobility devices (manual and power wheelchairs, approved scooters, seating and eligible wheeled walkers). That vendor status does not make a lift chair an ADP item. Read what ADP actually covers on the Assistive Devices Program page, then use the funding page or call 905 451-7743 to talk through a lift chair before you buy.
Frequently asked questions
What is an infinite position lift chair?+
An infinite position lift chair is a power lift recliner with separate motors for the backrest and the footrest, so you can stop at any combination of angles, including a fully flat sleep position and zero gravity.
What is the difference between a 3-position and an infinite position lift chair?+
A 3-position lift chair uses one motor, so the back and footrest move together through upright, television recline and a near-flat nap. An infinite position lift chair uses separate motors, so you can raise the legs while sitting upright, lie fully flat, or reach zero gravity.
Is a zero gravity lift chair the same as an infinite position chair?+
Zero gravity is a position, not a separate chair type. All zero gravity lift chairs are infinite position chairs: the knees sit above the heart. Golden Twilight models add extra tilt motors to hold that position more precisely.
Can you sleep in an infinite position lift chair?+
Yes. An infinite position lift chair can recline fully flat, which is why people with reflux or breathing problems often sleep in one. Three-position chairs do not go flat enough for night after night sleep.
Does ADP cover lift chairs in Ontario?+
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover lift chairs. The usual routes are the federal Home Accessibility Tax Credit when CRA rules fit, March of Dimes HVMP, ODSP, WSIB and Veterans Affairs. Westin is an ADP authorized vendor for eligible mobility devices, and will tell you which lift-chair funding path is real.
How far from the wall does an infinite position lift chair need to be?+
Pride VivaLift models typically need about 14 to 16 inches (36 to 41 cm) of wall clearance. We measure the room at the fitting so the chair actually reclines where you want it.
What size infinite position lift chair do I need?+
An infinite position lift chair is sized to the person, not the room. Seat depth is the measurement that matters: if it is too deep, the feet do not reach the floor when the chair tilts forward. We measure in the Brampton showroom or at a free home assessment.
Do you deliver and set up infinite position lift chairs in the GTA?+
Yes. Westin technicians deliver, assemble and demonstrate infinite position lift chairs across Brampton, Toronto and the GTA, and show you the handset before they leave.
