Old Oakville is a heritage district. The New Communities sit north of Dundas, east of the new hospital.
Oakville is one town with two official housing worlds. South of Robinson Street to the lakefront, the Town designates Old Oakville Heritage Conservation District: early vernacular homes, nineteenth-century lakeside cottages, and turn-of-the-century houses in Georgian, Neo-Classical, Victorian and Classical Revival styles. North of Dundas Street, south of Highway 407, east of the new Oakville hospital and west of Ninth Line, the Town names the New Communities of Oakville: new subdivisions, varied lot sizes, and driveway widths limited by design.
The 2021 Census, as published by Town staff and Statistics Canada, put the population at 213,759, up 10.3 percent from 2016, faster than Halton and Ontario. Occupied private dwellings numbered about 73,555. Single-detached dwellings were 58.6 percent. Halton's 2021 housing infographic put condominiums at 17 percent of Oakville occupied private dwellings, up from 14 percent in 2016.
The rest of the town sits between those two poles. We do not paste a realtor list. The Town itself names Bronte Village, Oak Park, West Oak Trails, Old Oakville and the New Communities. Those are the place names we use.
South of Robinson, to the lake
Four official heritage districts, not a realtor map
Old Oakville Heritage Conservation District (1981) runs south of Robinson Street to the lakefront, Sixteen Mile Creek to Allan Street. First and Second Street Heritage Conservation District adds houses from after 1855, a 1920s-1930s cottage wave, Italianate homes and bungalows. Trafalgar Road Heritage Conservation District holds early homes, many built before 1860. Downtown Oakville Heritage Conservation District is the Lakeshore Road East commercial streetscape.
From that official stock we infer curved or winding stairs, raised porches, narrow doors, and exterior changes that may need a Town heritage permit. We do not claim every Old Oakville stair is curved. We measure. We do not write that you cannot install a ramp. We write: check the Town heritage permit path before you alter a designated or district property.
North of Dundas, east of the new hospital
Newer floor plans, townhouse stairs, condo and town loading
The New Communities of Oakville are still being built on a 20-year phased plan. Attached garages and fewer Victorian turns are the usual picture. Townhouse stairs and condo or town loading rules come up more often than a Navy Street cottage. Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and Oakville Estates Retirement Residence sit on this north-west edge, on Hospital Gate.
A discharge from OTMH is often into this newer stock, or into a retirement building on the same street, not into a lakeside cottage. Both worlds exist in the same town. The equipment is not interchangeable.
A turning stair and a raised porch
Georgian, Victorian and cottage stock is why families in Old Oakville call about a curved rail and a porch lift. A straight rail is the wrong answer on a turn. ADP will not pay for either product. Halton LIFA also does not list stairlifts, porch lifts or home modifications.

The catalogue is the same one we carry across the GTA. The mix that actually gets used here is not. Old Oakville asks for curved rails and porch lifts, then a heritage permit before anyone cuts an exterior. Hospital Gate asks for a bed, a floor lift and a wheelchair that will fit the house or the retirement suite on the same street. Halton LIFA is why bath aids, some beds and some lifts belong on this page. They do not belong on a Peel or Toronto city page.

A straight rail will not follow a Victorian or Georgian turn. Handicare 4000, Freecurve and Access Flow X are the curved lines we install when the measure says the hall will take a rail. ADP will not pay for that rail. Halton LIFA will not either. March of Dimes HVMP may be a route when its eligibility and authorization rules fit.

Mississauga Halton Healthline describes 457 inpatient beds and names inpatient rehab, complex continuing care, geriatric assessment and a transitional reactivation unit among the services.
Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit: Level 4, North Block, Area R. Outpatient Rehabilitation: Area A, main floor, North Block, including a Physiatry Clinic. Halton Healthcare's other two hospitals are Milton District Hospital and Georgetown Hospital. Burlington sits outside that system.

Oakville Estates Retirement Residence
All Seniors Care operates Oakville Estates at 3000 Hospital Gate, independent, assisted and memory care on the same street as OTMH. The operator states it is located near Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. A discharge into that building is a Hospital Gate job, not an Old Oakville cottage job.

Halton Region's municipal long-term care home in Oak Park. 203 Georgian Drive, Oakville ON L6H 7H9. 228 beds. This is Halton's Oakville municipal home. Creek Way is Burlington. Allendale is Milton.
