Manual tilt-in-space wheelchair rental in Toronto and the GTA
A manual tilt-in-space wheelchair tilts the seat and back together so the hip angle stays the same. This redistributes pressure for someone who cannot shift their own weight.
Rates start at $160 for one month, in three seat sizes with two chairs in each. Book the size you need online, or call 905 451-7743 and we will confirm the fit with you first.
How much does a manual tilt wheelchair rental cost?
A manual tilt in space chair is $160 for one month, $320 for two months or $480 for three months. Unlike our other wheelchairs, which rent by the week, the tilt chair rents by the month. HST is extra.
| Term | Rental total | Effective monthly rate |
|---|---|---|
| 1 month | $160 | $160 per month |
| 2 months | $320 | $160 per month |
| 3 months | $480 | $160 per month |

What is tilt in space, and how is it different from recline?
Tilt moves the seat and back together while keeping the hip angle stable. Recline changes the angle between the seat and back, so the two mechanisms are not interchangeable words.
The whole seating system rotates
The seated person's position changes relative to gravity while the seat-to-back angle stays stable.
The back angle opens
The back moves relative to the seat. That is a different movement and it is not what this rental page promises.
A caregiver operates the tilt
This is a manual tilt rental, not a power tilt or power recline wheelchair.
Sizes we keep for tilt chairs
Fit matters more on a tilt chair than on a standard one. The whole point of tilting is to move pressure off the seat and onto the back, and that only works if the person is properly supported in the seat to begin with. Measure across the widest point of the hips while seated and call us with that number.
16 inch wide, 18 inch deep
For a smaller adult who still needs full trunk and head support through the day.
18 inch wide, 18 inch deep
The size most adults are measured into, and our most requested tilt chair.
20 inch wide, 20 inch deep
For a larger frame, where a narrower seat would push the hips and thighs together and undo the pressure relief.
We keep two tilt chairs in each size. Our rental fleet is made up of different brands in different conditions, so the chair that arrives will match the size and the tilt function you booked, but it will not always look like the one photographed here. Every chair is cleaned and safety checked before it goes out.
Who actually needs a manual tilt wheelchair?
It is for someone who cannot reliably shift their own weight and needs pressure redistribution or postural support during longer sitting. An occupational therapist or physiotherapist should guide a long-term seating plan.
Cannot reposition independently
Tilt changes the loading pattern when the person cannot perform an effective weight shift on their own.
Needs supported positioning
The chair may be appropriate when a basic upright chair does not provide enough postural support for longer sitting.
Use a simpler chair when tilt is not needed
A folding manual or transport chair is easier to move and book when the person can sit upright and does not need tilt for pressure or posture.
If this is the wrong chair, compare our folding manual wheelchair rental and transport wheelchair rental before calling.
Will a tilt chair fit through the door, into a lift or in a car?
Do not assume it folds or fits a car boot. The current model, seat sizes, capacity and transport dimensions are not published, so we confirm the actual chair by phone.
Measure hip width first
Sit on a firm surface, measure the widest point of the hips, then add one to two inches. Give us that seat-width measurement when you call.
Measure the entire route
Measure the narrowest door and tightest turn, and ask the building about its service-elevator or loading rules before delivery.
Confirm the actual chair before travel
Tell us the vehicle and opening dimensions. We will not promise that the current tilt chair fits a boot, taxi or paratransit lift until we confirm it.
How fast can you deliver, and where can you discuss the chair?
When the chair is in stock, we can often deliver the same day or the next day. Urgent hospital discharges should call 905 451-7743 rather than rely on an online calendar.

Our partner store

Ask the clinical team first
Ask the hospital occupational therapist, physiotherapist or discharge planner about the required seating and Ontario Health atHome. Call 310-2222 for an assessment.
What usually goes with a manual tilt wheelchair?
Pressure care and transfers should be planned with the chair, not added after a problem appears.

Pressure care mattresses
For a person who also spends long periods in bed and needs a separate pressure plan there.
Patient lifts
For transfers when standing and pivoting are not safe or realistic.
Patient lift slings
A sling must match the person, transfer and lift attachment style.
Over-bed tables
For meals, reading and daily items within reach in the recovery room.
Can ADP fund a tilt wheelchair purchase?
ADP does not fund this rental. A long-term manual tilt-in-space wheelchair is often an ADP purchase authorized by a registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist. The rental can bridge the gap, but it is not the funded purchase.
Assessment comes before purchase
ADP can fund up to 75% of the approved purchase price for an eligible wheelchair and seating. Do not buy first and do not treat this rental as an ADP claim.
Central Equipment Pool is a different path
High-technology power wheelchairs with power tilt or recline use the Central Equipment Pool purchase route. That is not this manual tilt rental.
Call before a discharge
Ontario Health atHome may arrange equipment through contracted suppliers after an assessment. Its typical rental is 30 days and some fees may apply. Call 310-2222.
Read the purchase process on our Assistive Devices Program page, then check the funding overview for other programs.
