Amount confirmed before booking

Any required deposit amount is confirmed before booking. It is refunded after return and inspection, normally within about three business days.

Folding travel chair or full-size chair: which do you rent?

The verified rental image shows a power chair with a headrest and captain-style seat. The exact model, its weight and whether it disassembles are not confirmed, so we do not advertise this rental as a folding travel chair.

Folding or transportable

Chosen for a regular car

A travel chair folds or comes apart for a car boot. Chair weight, folded size, battery type and the heaviest piece must be checked before anyone promises it will fit a particular car.

Full size

Chosen for household mobility

A full-size chair commonly has a captain-style seat and more seating support. It may need a ramp vehicle or van instead of a regular car, depending on whether the exact chassis disassembles.

Tilt or recline

A different clinical category

A high-technology chair with power tilt or recline is not the same as a travel rental. An ADP-funded purchase in this class must go through the Central Equipment Pool.

What is the battery range, charge time, size and capacity?

Those numbers depend on the exact chair and battery supplied. We will confirm the model, battery range, charge time, chair width, turning radius, seat width, weight capacity and transport method before booking instead of publishing unverified specifications.

Battery and charging

Match the charger to the chair

Confirm that the matching charger is in the handoff, where the chair can reach a household outlet, the time needed for a full charge and the expected range for that battery. Do not plan a day trip from a generic range.

Car or van

Measure the heaviest piece

A folding or disassembling chair may fit a regular car. A full-size chair can require a ramp van. The open size, folded size, total weight and heaviest removable piece settle that decision.

Indoor turning

Check the narrowest turn

Measure the entrance, the narrowest interior door, the turn into the bathroom and the space beside the bed. A power chair does not do stairs and should stay on an accessible floor.

Seat and capacity

Fit the user, not the photograph

Seat width and weight capacity must match the person. We confirm both on the exact rental unit before it is released and do not infer them from a similar chair online.

Can I take the rental on a plane or collect it at Pearson?

Pearson does not rent power chairs. Ask the airline at least 48 hours ahead for airport wheelchair assistance, and do not take a Westin rental on a flight until the battery rating and the airline's acceptance are confirmed.

Inside Pearson

Ask the airline

The airline arranges a push chair inside the terminal. Pearson lists charging outlets for travellers who already have an electric wheelchair, but it is not a power-chair rental counter.

CATSA screening

Battery rules are not airline approval

CATSA permits a battery installed in a mobility device with no watt-hour limit at screening and one spare battery up to 300 Wh. The carrier can still apply stricter rules, so contact it in advance.

Hotel and airport delivery

Call before making plans

Westin delivers to GTA addresses. Hotel bell-desk delivery and Pearson curb delivery are not promised on this page, so call 905 451-7743 for a yes or no before booking travel.

How quickly can you deliver a power wheelchair?

When the chair is in stock, we can often deliver the same day or the next day. Call 905 451-7743 for an urgent discharge instead of relying on the online calendar.

Delivery day

Plan for a 2 to 3 hour window

The rental program uses a 2 to 3 hour delivery window. An extra charge can apply outside 30 km of the GTA rentals location.

Service area

Toronto and the GTA

Published delivery cities are Toronto, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Mississauga, Brampton and Scarborough.

Before handoff

Confirm the route through the home

Tell us about steps, ramps, elevator access, the narrowest door and the vehicle. These details decide whether the exact rental chair can reach the place it will be used.

Rent or pursue a funded purchase

Who should rent, and who should start an ADP purchase?

Rent for a visit, a need shorter than 6 months or as a bridge while a funded chair is assessed. Start an ADP purchase when the person needs a power wheelchair for 6 months or longer and requires a chair fitted to long-term mobility and seating needs.

Short term

Rent privately

ADP does not pay for a power-wheelchair rental, and OHIP does not reimburse a retail rental. A one to four week term gives the family a defined private cost.

Read the rental terms →
Long term

Start the ADP assessment

An ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist assesses the need. ADP can pay up to 75 percent of the approved purchase price and aims to review mobility applications within 8 weeks.

See the ADP purchase path →
Power tilt or recline

Use the Central Equipment Pool

An ADP-funded high-technology chair with power tilt or recline must be purchased through the Central Equipment Pool operated by Motion. It is not a standard rental-chair purchase.

Can Ontario Health atHome send a power chair?

Ontario Health atHome can arrange medical supplies and equipment after a Care Coordinator assessment, and some fees may apply. Whether a power chair is on the local formulary is not confirmed, so ask at 310-2222 before paying for a private rental.

Home care

Ask before renting

The published contracted-equipment rental period is typically 30 days, but eligibility, formulary and fees depend on the assessment. Do not assume a free power chair will be supplied.

Other payers

Get approval first

WSIB, Veterans Affairs Canada and private insurance may authorize equipment for eligible claims. Ask before the invoice because Westin does not decide entitlement.

Toronto support

TESS follows the ADP purchase path

Toronto Employment and Social Services may help with the client share of an ADP-approved purchase. Its public page does not promise payment of a weekly rental invoice.

What usually goes with a power wheelchair?

A safe plan includes a backup for a dead battery, a toileting route and any other equipment needed at home. These pages cover the common next questions.
