WSIB medical equipment coverage
WSIB may authorize prescribed equipment and supplies for an allowed work-related injury claim, when entitlement continues and clinical evidence supports the need. Approval comes before purchase, always.
We prepare the itemized quote and product documents your claim examiner needs, and we verify what authorization your claim requires before anything is ordered.
What WSIB may cover, and what to confirm first
Everything depends on the accepted claim, the clinical evidence, and WSIB’s authorization. Nothing on this page is a promise about your claim.
May be considered
Assistive devices WSIB identifies, when prescribed, work-related, and supported by your claim.
- Walkers and similar mobility devices
- Braces and supports
- Supplies related to the allowed claim
- Adjustable bed frames and mattresses
- Other assistive devices named for your claim with clinical support
Confirm before ordering
These decide the outcome more than the equipment itself does.
- The claim must be allowed and entitlement must continue
- A prescription or clinical report tying the item to the work-related need
- Authorization must be in place before purchase, without exception
- Preferred-supplier rules on your claim; supplier arrangements are set by WSIB, not by us
- Comfort or convenience upgrades beyond the prescribed item
What needs to happen before you order
Four steps, and the decision at each one belongs to WSIB.
Confirm the claim is allowed
Your claim number and entitlement status come first. If entitlement has ended, equipment is not authorized through the claim, whatever the need.
Get the prescription or clinical report
The treating practitioner documents the work-related need for the specific item. Clinical evidence is what the decision rests on.
We prepare the authorization request
We produce the itemized quote and product documents in the format the claim examiner expects, and we verify what authorization your claim requires.
WSIB decides, then we supply
Only WSIB decides entitlement, the authorized item and the amount. Once authorization is confirmed, we arrange delivery and setup.
What documents should you have ready?
The five that come up on every equipment authorization.
Westin prepares
- Equipment options matched to the prescription
- The itemized quote for the authorization request
- Product documents and specifications
- Delivery, setup and service details
WSIB decides
- Claim entitlement as it continues
- Clinical approval of the requested item
- The authorized amount
- Supplier requirements, including preferred suppliers
Common WSIB equipment questions
If yours is not here, call us on 905 451-7743, or speak with your claim examiner.
Does the equipment need to relate to an allowed WSIB claim?
Yes. WSIB may authorize health care equipment and supplies when the claim is allowed, entitlement continues, and clinical evidence or a prescription supports the work-related need. Equipment for a need unrelated to the claim is not covered through it, whatever its medical merits.
Can I purchase equipment before WSIB approves it?
No. Authorization comes first, and buying before approval leaves you responsible for the cost if the request is declined. We will not process an order on the hope that authorization follows; we will help you get the authorization request right instead.
Who decides which equipment is authorized?
WSIB does, on the recommendation of the treating practitioner and within its operational policy. We prepare quotes and product documents and verify what your claim requires, but the entitlement, the item and the amount are always WSIB’s decision.
Can ADP and WSIB pay for the same equipment?
No. The same item cannot be concurrently covered by ADP and WSIB. If your need arises from a workplace injury, WSIB comes first; ADP applies where no other program covers the device. Tell both parties which route you are using so nothing is billed twice.
Is Westin a WSIB preferred supplier?
We do not claim that unless your claim confirms it. Preferred-supplier and authorization rules vary by claim and are set by WSIB. What we do either way is prepare the quote and product documents the examiner needs, which is the part a supplier controls.
Are bed frames and mattresses covered?
They can be. WSIB identifies adjustable bed frames and mattresses among the assistive devices it may provide, when a prescription and the work-related need support them on an allowed claim. It is decided claim by claim, never in advance.
How is billing handled?
That follows WSIB’s authorization and supplier rules for your claim, and we confirm the arrangement before anything is ordered. What we can promise is correct paperwork: the itemized quote and product documents, ready for the examiner.
Bring us your claim number and prescription.
We prepare the quote and product documents, verify what your claim requires, and wait for WSIB’s authorization before anything is ordered.
