What shape are your stairs?
This is the only question that changes the price much. A straight flight takes a standard rail. Anything with a bend, a landing or a turn needs a rail built to your staircase. Outdoor steps need weatherproofing on top.

Straight stairs
One flight, no bends or landings. Standard rail, cut to length, usually installed in a single visit.

Curved or with a landing
Bends, winders, spirals or a mid landing. The rail is measured and fabricated for your staircase alone.
See curved stairlifts
Outdoor steps
Front steps, a deck or a side entrance. Weatherproofed throughout, with a cover for the seat.

Every stairlift we fit
Handicare, Savaria and Access. Each one has its own page with measurements, weight limits, options and what it is genuinely good at. Prices are quoted after the measure because rail length is most of the cost.
Straight staircases
One flight, no bends. Five models.
Handicare 1000
Carries up to 440 lbThe gear rack is hidden inside an anodized aluminium rail, so nothing is exposed to catch on. The highest weight limit of the straight lifts we carry.

Handicare 1100
No gear rack at allA patented four motor friction drive climbs a fully enclosed rail. Nothing open to collect dust, and the quietest ride of the Handicare straights.

Savaria K2
10 3/4 inches foldedFolded, it takes less from your wall than either Handicare we carry. The one to look at first if your staircase is narrow or shared.

Savaria K2 Plus
Approved for commercial use400 lb at home and a seat that adjusts out to 24 1/4 inches. The one that is also cleared for commercial buildings, not just houses.

Access HomeGlide
One joystick controlA single joystick on the armrest is the whole control. Push the way you want to go, let go and it stops. Nothing else to learn.
Curved staircases and landings
Bends, winders, spirals or a mid landing. Three models.
Handicare 4000
Twin rail, hugs the wallA twin rail built to your measurements that follows every bend close to the wall, so the staircase stays usable for everyone else in the house.

Handicare Freecurve
Single tube railOne tube rail, measured and fabricated for your staircase alone. Turns, winders, spirals and landings are all handled without a join.

Access Flow X
Fits stairs from 24 inchesThe seat turns while the lift is still moving. That is why it fits staircases as narrow as 24 inches where other curved rails will not.
Outdoor steps
Front steps, decks and side entrances. One model. How this works
From the first call to the first ride
Most people are on a stairlift within a week or two for a straight staircase. Curved rails are built to order, so those take longer.
We measure your stairs
Free, at your home, no obligation. We measure the flight, check the doorways at the top and bottom, and look at where the power is. That visit is what makes the quote real rather than a guess.
We tell you what fits
Usually two or three of the nine will suit your staircase. We explain the difference in plain terms, including which we would put in our own home, and leave you the quote to think about.
Our technicians install it
Our own people, not subcontractors. A straight rail is normally one visit. We do not leave until you have ridden it yourself and can use the controls without help.
What you get
Included with every stairlift we fit
There is usually help paying for it
ADP does not cover stairlifts in Ontario. March of Dimes HVMP may fund an eligible stairlift when applicant, request and authorization rules fit. WSIB may help only on an allowed work-related claim with clinical support and authorization. The federal Home Accessibility Tax Credit may offset part of an eligible enduring home renovation when CRA eligibility rules fit. In Toronto, a hardship fund may also apply. Which of them you can use depends on the household, not the staircase, so we go through it with you at the measure.
We will tell you plainly when you do not qualify. That is faster for everyone than an application that was never going to succeed.
Questions we get asked
Stairlift questions, answered plainly
What does a stairlift cost in Ontario?
A straight stairlift is the cheaper case because the rail is a standard part cut to length. A curved rail is fabricated for your staircase alone, so it is the single biggest factor in the price and it is why nobody can quote you honestly over the phone. We measure, then give you a written figure with nothing added later.
Do stairlifts damage the staircase?
The rail fixes to the treads, not to the wall, so the fixings sit in the steps rather than the plaster. When a lift is removed the holes are small and in the tread edge. Renting or living in a condo does not rule you out, but check with the owner or board first.
How narrow can the staircase be?
The Savaria K2 folds to about 10 3/4 inches from the wall, which is the slimmest straight lift we carry. For curved staircases the Access Flow X fits flights as narrow as 24 inches because the seat turns while it is moving. If your stairs are tight, say so on the phone and we will bring the right tape measure.
Can someone else still use the stairs?
Yes. Every lift we fit folds the seat, arms and footrest against the wall when it is parked, and the curved rails are shaped to sit close in on the bends. On a narrow staircase this matters more than the badge on the side, which is part of what we check at the measure.
What happens in a power cut?
The lifts run off batteries that charge at the parking points, so a power cut does not strand anyone mid flight. You get a number of trips on the batteries alone, which is enough to get down and back up while the power is out.
Do you service what you sell?
Yes, in house. We are not a referral service that passes you to a manufacturer after the sale. The same company that measured and fitted the lift is the one that answers when it needs a battery or a callout.
