Markham Stouffville Hospital is on Church Street. Oak Valley's other site is in Uxbridge.
Westin Healthcare serves the City of Markham with delivery, installation, service and repairs, and free in-home assessments.
Markham is the largest city in York Region. The hospital that sits here is Markham Stouffville Hospital, 381 Church Street, run by Oak Valley Health. Uxbridge Hospital is the other Oak Valley site. It is in Uxbridge, not in this city. York Region is the Ontario Works service manager. There is no municipal hardship fund.
Delivery, installation and service across Markham.
Westin Healthcare serves Markham and the surrounding York Region communities with delivery, installation, service and repairs, and free in-home assessments. Our team confirms access, delivery and installation details for the home.
Call 905 451-7743 to plan a delivery, or book a free in-home assessment and we bring the chairs and lift options to the Markham house, so nothing depends on a showroom trip before the install. To try a chair or a lift in person, visit the Brampton showroom at Unit 7, 15 Fisherman Drive, open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, and Saturday, 10am to 2pm.
Just over half of Markham's occupied dwellings are single-detached.
York Region's 2021 Census table counts 110,870 occupied private dwellings in Markham. 62,290 of them, 56 percent, are single-detached. 15,985 are rows, 14 percent. 19,540 are apartments, 18 percent. Semis are 6 percent. Markham is not a bungalow town and not a tower town. It is a mixed city, and the equipment follows the mix.
Apartments of five or more storeys rose 28 percent between 2016 and 2021 and make up about 16 percent of dwellings. Markham was among the three CMA cities with the highest share of new condominium development since 2016. That growth sits around Markham Centre, not on every Unionville lot.
Cornell, Bur Oak, Church Street
The hospital cluster on the east side
Markham Stouffville Hospital sits at 381 Church Street. AgeCare Woodhaven is next door at 380 Church Street. Yee Hong Centre - Markham is at 2780 Bur Oak Avenue. A discharge from Church Street often lands in this east-side stock: a two-storey detached house, a row, or a short hop to a long-term care campus. We measure the house the person is going home to; contact the hospital directly for its inpatient services.
Markham Centre, Town Centre Boulevard
The condo core, not a suburban cul-de-sac
The Civic Centre at 101 Town Centre Boulevard is the civic and condo core. This is the honest place to talk about booking an elevator and a loading dock for a homecare bed. Building rules belong to each condo or landlord. We confirm them at the assessment.
Unionville, Highway 7
Heritage lots and a campus on Highway 7
Unionville is a named historic community inside Markham. Union Villa, 4300 Highway 7, is a three-storey charitable long-term care home on a park-like campus, rebuilt in 2005, 160 residents. Wyndham Gardens sits on the same Unionville Home Society campus. Older village streets are the honest place to talk about raised entries. We do not invent a porch-height average. We look at the actual steps.
The catalogue is the same. The mix that actually gets used here is not.
Detached streets ask about interior stairs and front steps. Unionville lots ask about a short rise at the door. Markham Centre asks about a bed that will fit an elevator. A discharge from 381 Church Street asks for a wheelchair that will fit the house the person is going back to, and often a rental bed while funding is sorted.
Straight and curved stairlifts
Just over half the occupied stock is single-detached. Interior stairs follow from that type. A straight rail fits a straight run. A turning stair needs a curved rail. We measure. We do not invent a typical Markham stair width. ADP will not pay for the rail. March of Dimes HVMP may be a route when its eligibility and authorization rules fit.
Straight stairliftsPorch lifts
A raised entry on an older Unionville lot is a few steps, not a farm-length grade. A vertical platform lift is the usual answer when a short ramp will not fit the landing. It is not an ADP item.
Porch liftsRamps
A short modular ramp can fit a Markham porch when the grade and the landing allow it. Row lots, 14 percent of the stock, often have less room to run a long ramp. ADP does not cover ramps.
RampsHospital bed rental
A condo on Town Centre Boulevard is why families call about a homecare bed and an elevator booking. ADP does not fund beds. Renting is the usual short stay answer. We quote. We do not list a price and we do not promise a same-week window.
Hospital bedsWheelchairs, approved scooters, seating
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program is provincial. In Markham it still covers only eligible manual and power wheelchairs, approved scooters, wheelchair seating and wheeled walkers, at up to 75 percent of the approved amount, or 100 percent if the person is on OW, ODSP or ACSD. It does not cover bathroom equipment, beds, stairlifts, ramps or lifts.
ADP, explained honestlyScooters and power chairs
An approved scooter can go through ADP. A folding power chair is a different product and a different funding conversation. We assess the home, including doorway clearances we have not measured city-wide, then quote.
Mobility scootersRehab and the Integrated Stroke Unit are both inside 381 Church Street.
These references help families plan; contact the facility directly for its own services. The names matter because this is where a Markham hospital bed or wheelchair actually starts: a planner at Markham Stouffville Hospital, an OT on the rehab unit, a social worker arranging a return to Bur Oak or Highway 7.
Markham Stouffville Hospital
381 Church Street, PO Box 1800, Markham, ON L3P 7P3. Switchboard 905 472-7373. Oak Valley Health. Diagnostic and emergency services, childbirth and children's health at the Stollery Family Centre, surgery including short-stay orthopaedics, acute care medicine, cancer care, and mental health.
Rehabilitation and Integrated Stroke Unit
Unit 1E, Building A, first floor, same Church Street site. Phone 905 472-7525. Short-term rehabilitation and a Restorative and Reactivation Program of two to three weeks. The Integrated Stroke Unit opened in January 2019: acute plus rehabilitative stroke care on the same unit. Specialized cases such as acute brain injury may be transferred to St. John's Rehab, Providence Healthcare or Bridgepoint Health. Those three sites are not in Markham.
Uxbridge Hospital is not a Markham hospital
Oak Valley Health also operates Uxbridge Hospital. That site is in Uxbridge. Do not plan a Markham discharge as if the nearest Oak Valley bed is there. The hospital that sits in this city is Markham Stouffville Hospital on Church Street.
AgeCare Woodhaven
380 Church Street, Markham, ON L6B 1E1. 192 licensed beds. Next to Markham Stouffville Hospital. Ontario Health atHome, Central, 1-888-470-2222, handles long-term care placement for this area. Household programs on this page are for people going home, not for people already in long-term care.
Yee Hong Centre - Markham
Yee Hong Ho Lai Oi Wan Centre, 2780 Bur Oak Avenue, Markham, ON L6B 1C9. 200 licensed beds. Not-for-profit. Licensee: Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care. We name it because families already know it; contact the home directly for its own services.
Union Villa and the Highway 7 campus
Union Villa, 4300 Highway 7, Unionville / Markham, ON L3R 1L8. 160 residents, three storeys, charitable, rebuilt 2005. Phone 905 477-2822. Wyndham Gardens is life-lease seniors housing on the same Unionville Home Society campus. We do not publish suite counts or care levels for Wyndham Gardens.
A Mon Sheong long-term care centre at 30 Apple Creek Boulevard opened for applications on 21 April 2026, with 320 beds planned. We do not treat it as a long-standing local landmark, and we do not claim residents are already in the building. York Region's two municipal long-term care homes are in Maple and Newmarket, not in Markham. This list is not a complete inventory.
Thornhill straddles Markham and Vaughan. We do not write it as a Markham-only neighbourhood.
There is no municipal equipment hardship fund in Markham.
The administering body is York Region. Do not send a Markham resident to the City of Toronto Hardship Fund on 416-338-8888. Peel ODSP discretionary benefits and Halton Low-Income Financial Assistance do not apply here.
There is no local hardship program to apply to
No municipal equipment hardship program was found for people who are not on social assistance. The path is the shared provincial and federal list: ADP for eligible manual and power wheelchairs, approved scooters, wheelchair seating and wheeled walkers; March of Dimes Home and Vehicle Modification Program; WSIB, Veterans Affairs, IFHP and NIHB when those programs apply; Easter Seals, Muscular Dystrophy Canada and The War Amps when you are a registered client; tax credits; private insurance.
Ask York Region Ontario Works about discretionary benefits
Access York: 1-877-464-9675. Apply for Ontario Works: 1-888-999-1142. York's public page names dental, vision, special diet and breast-pump support. There is no public equipment schedule for beds, lifts or stairlifts. Westin does not decide eligibility.
ADP itself is provincial. It is not a Markham program. It funds eligible manual and power wheelchairs, approved scooters, wheelchair seating and wheeled walkers. It does not fund bathroom equipment, beds, stairlifts, ramps or lifts. Dressing ADP as a local talking point is how the old city pages failed.
Do not apply these here
The Toronto Hardship Fund is for City of Toronto residents only. Its phone is 416-338-8888. A Markham address is not eligible. Halton Low-Income Financial Assistance is for Burlington, Oakville and Milton. Peel ODSP discretionary benefits are for Peel. Markham is none of those.
Church Street, Citizen Court, and a hardship number that is not yours.
If a question would still read as true after you swap the city name, it is not on this list.
After a discharge from Markham Stouffville Hospital, can you set up the Markham home, and can I try equipment first?
The hospital is at 381 Church Street. Rehab and the Integrated Stroke Unit are in the same building, Unit 1E, Building A. Westin delivers to and installs in the Markham home. To try a chair or a lift in person, visit the Brampton showroom at Unit 7, 15 Fisherman Drive, or book a free in-home assessment and we bring the options to the house.
Is there a municipal equipment fund in Markham, or only York OW discretionary benefits?
There is no municipal equipment hardship fund in Markham. If you are on OW or ODSP, the local path is York Region Ontario Works discretionary benefits, through the caseworker. York's public page names dental, vision, special diet and breast-pump support, and it does not publish an equipment schedule. Everyone else uses ADP, March of Dimes HVMP, the other provincial and federal programs, tax credits or insurance. Do not call the Toronto Hardship Fund on 416-338-8888 from a Markham address.
Is Uxbridge Hospital in Markham?
No. Oak Valley Health runs two hospital sites. Markham Stouffville Hospital is in Markham, at 381 Church Street. Uxbridge Hospital is in Uxbridge. Do not plan a Church Street discharge as if the family should collect the person in Uxbridge. Specialized cases may still be transferred out to St. John's Rehab, Providence Healthcare or Bridgepoint Health. Those three are also not in Markham.
Does ADP cover a stairlift for a two-storey house in Unionville?
No. ADP is provincial and the list does not change at Highway 7. It covers eligible manual and power wheelchairs, approved scooters, wheelchair seating and wheeled walkers. It does not cover bathroom equipment, beds, stairlifts, ramps or lifts. A Unionville two-storey house does not create an exception. March of Dimes HVMP may be a route for a home modification of this kind when its eligibility and authorization rules fit.
Can you deliver a hospital bed to a condo in Markham Centre?
Yes. We deliver to and install in buildings around Town Centre Boulevard. Elevator bookings, loading docks and corridor rules belong to the condo or landlord, not to the City. We confirm them at the assessment.
How do I try a Westin chair or lift before it goes into a Markham home?
Book an assessment and we bring the options to the Markham house, or visit the Brampton showroom at Unit 7, 15 Fisherman Drive to try a chair or a lift first.
