Alternating pressure mattress rental in Toronto and the GTA
An alternating pressure mattress uses a control pump to cycle air through groups of cells, changing which areas carry the most pressure over time.
The choice usually comes up when someone spends many hours a day in bed, already has a pressure injury, or is at risk of one. Westin confirms the mattress fits the bed frame before confirming the standalone rental rate. It is also available as a $240 upgrade on one of our hospital bed rentals.
Who needs an alternating pressure surface rather than foam?
An alternating pressure surface is usually discussed when the person spends many hours a day in bed, already has a pressure injury, or has been identified as being at risk of one. The person's care team should decide which surface category suits the care plan.
Many hours each day
The longer someone stays in one position, the more important the choice of support surface becomes. Tell us how many hours the mattress will be used and whether the person can change position independently.
An existing injury or known risk
If a clinician has identified a pressure injury or pressure-injury risk, share the surface recommendation with us. We match the rental equipment to that recommendation and to the bed frame.
Foam can still be the right surface
Not every person in a hospital bed needs powered alternating pressure. If the care plan calls for foam, we will not turn a more complex surface into the default.
How does an alternating pressure mattress work?
A bedside control pump moves air through different groups of cells in a repeating cycle. As one group changes, the points carrying the most pressure change too.
The support changes in a cycle
The cells do not all change at once. The pump cycles between groups so the support pattern changes while the person remains on the mattress.
The pump needs an outlet
The control pump must remain connected to a suitable power outlet while the alternating function is in use. Plan the outlet and cable route before the bed is set up.
Expect a low operating noise
The pump makes a low, steady noise as it runs. It is not silent, so tell us if the room or sleeper is especially sensitive to background sound.
Will the mattress fit the bed frame?
The mattress must fit the bed platform and work with the rail arrangement. We check the actual frame before confirming the rental because a gap between the mattress, frame and rails is a safety concern.
Tell us which bed you have
Have the bed make and model ready if possible. If it is not available, we will ask for the platform measurements and photos needed to check compatibility.
Mattress and rail gaps matter
Do not swap a random mattress onto a hospital bed. The frame, surface and rails need to be considered together so avoidable gaps are not introduced.
Plan the pump location
The pump needs a stable position near the bed, access to power, and a cable route that does not interfere with the bed or the walking path.
Health Canada advises that a hospital bed mattress must fit the frame. See its hospital bed safety guidance.
How much does an alternating pressure mattress rental cost?
A standalone rental is $250 for one month, $480 for two months or $710 for three. A refundable $250 deposit is collected at the start and HST is added at checkout. If you are already renting a bed from us, the same upgrade costs $240 for the rental term.

Mattress, pump and setup
The powered mattress and its control pump, delivered, connected to a compatible bed and demonstrated before we leave.
Delivery and HST
Delivery, installation and pickup is $120, or collect it yourself from Unit 7, 15 Fisherman Drive in Brampton. HST is added at checkout.
$250, refunded after return
Refunded to the card on file once the system comes back and passes inspection, normally within about three business days.

What comes with the rental?
The rental includes the alternating pressure mattress system and its control pump. We deliver it to the room, connect it to the compatible bed, demonstrate the controls and arrange pickup at the end.
Mattress and control pump
The powered mattress system and the pump that cycles its air cells are supplied together.
Connected and demonstrated
We set the system up on the compatible bed frame, connect the pump and show the household how the controls operate before we leave.
Cleaned, inspected and test run
The system is cleaned, inspected and tested before it goes out again. Anything that fails inspection is not returned to the rental fleet.
Pickup is arranged with you
At the end of the term, we arrange pickup around the agreed schedule.
Already renting one of our hospital beds? The alternating pressure mattress is available as a $240 upgrade for that rental term. It can also be rented on its own after the fit check.
What usually goes with an alternating pressure mattress?
A hospital bed and a patient lift are usually part of the same conversation. The frame has to fit the mattress, and transfer equipment has to work with the bed and the person using it.
Hospital bed rental
A full electric bed frame can be rented with foam or upgraded to the alternating pressure surface after the fit is checked.
Patient lift rental
When transfers in and out of bed need mechanical assistance, confirm the lift, sling and bed clearance together.
Patient lift sling
The sling must match the person and the lift. Bring the lift details when asking about a sling.
Over bed table
Keeps meals, a phone, medication and reading material within reach beside the bed.
Commode
A bedside commode is often discussed when the bathroom route is difficult or too far from the bed.
Folding wheelchair rental
A folding manual chair can cover appointments and trips outside the room during a short-term rental.
Does ADP or OHIP pay for an alternating pressure mattress rental?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not fund equipment rentals and specifically excludes hospital beds and mattresses. OHIP does not reimburse a private retail mattress rental.
Ontario Health atHome
A family who may qualify for home care should call Ontario Health atHome first at 310-2222. After an assessment, it may arrange equipment through its contracted suppliers. That is separate from an OHIP reimbursement for a private Westin rental.
Ask before renting
A workplace plan, private insurer, WSIB or Veterans Affairs Canada may require a prescription, clinical letter or approval before equipment is ordered. The payer decides whether the claim and supplier qualify.
Beds and mattresses are excluded
ADP can help with approved purchased wheelchairs, scooters and seating, but not with beds, mattresses or this rental.
