Savaria K2 Plus
stairlift
400 lb at home, a seat that adjusts out to 24¼ inches, and approval for commercial buildings. This is the lift for when capacity or seat width is the deciding factor, not a preference.
Installed and serviced across Brampton, Mississauga, Toronto and the GTA by our own technicians.
400 lb is one answer to four different questions.
Manufacturers quote a single headline figure, but the K2 Plus rating changes with the seat you pick and where the lift is going. Here is the whole picture, so nobody finds out after signing.
Four and a quarter inches of extra seat
The Plus seat adjusts out to 24¼ inches between the armrests. The L seat stops at 20 inches, which is what the standard K2 offers. That gap is the entire reason this model exists, and it is felt every single time somebody sits down.
The reason to buy this model. It is the only seat in our straight range that carries 400 lb at home, and the extra width is what makes a daily ride comfortable rather than tolerable.
The same seat width as the standard K2, on the heavier duty K2 Plus carriage. Worth choosing if you want the sturdier lift but the staircase cannot spare the extra width.
Both seats are easy-clean vinyl, both have width-adjustable arms, and we set the width to the person during installation rather than shipping a fixed size.
What comes as standard
Nothing on this list is an upgrade. Note the continuous charging in particular: on the standard K2 that is a paid option, and here it is included.
Savaria K2 or K2 Plus?
They share a drive system, a speed, a travel distance and a warranty. Four things differ, and each one can decide it for you.
Dimensions
Savaria's drawing carries three callouts without labels, listed above as printed rather than guessed at. Several dimensions also vary with the angle of your staircase, which is one more reason we measure before quoting.
Choose the K2 Plus if
- You need more than 350 lb of capacity at home
- A standard 20 inch seat is too narrow to be comfortable
- The lift is going into a church, clinic, office or shared entrance
Look elsewhere if
- Your staircase is narrow - the K2 folds to 10¾ in
- The steps are outdoors - see the Handicare 1000
- You want powered swivel and footrest - see the 1100
What a K2 Plus costs, and who helps pay
Staircase length, which seat you choose, and whether the install is residential or commercial. Those are the three things that move the number, so we quote after measuring rather than before.
Stairlifts are not covered by Ontario's ADP. Any company that tells you otherwise is wrong. Here is what does apply.

What is the weight capacity of the Savaria K2 Plus?
400 lb (182 kg) for residential use with the Plus seat, and 350 lb (159 kg) in commercial settings. With the L seat it is 350 lb either way, and adding the flip-up rail caps any configuration at 350 lb.
What is the difference between the Savaria K2 and the K2 Plus?
Four things: capacity at home (350 lb against 400 lb), seat width (arms to 20 in against 24¼ in), setting (residential only against commercial approved), and footprint (folds to 10¾ in against 13½ in). Both share the rack and pinion drive, 15 ft/min speed, 32 ft travel and a 36-month parts warranty.
Can the K2 Plus be installed in a church or a small office?
Yes, where local code permits. Savaria rates it as robust enough for demanding use in public buildings such as places of worship and small professional offices. Commercial installs carry the 350 lb rating and include an emergency stop button on the chair. Tell us the setting when you book so we can confirm the code position for your address.
How wide is the Plus seat?
The armrests adjust out to 24¼ inches, against 20 inches on the L seat and on the standard K2. We set the width to the person during installation rather than shipping one fixed size.
How much does a Savaria K2 Plus cost in Ontario?
It depends on the length of your staircase, which seat you choose, and whether the install is residential or commercial. You get a written price at the free in-home assessment with no obligation. Call 905 451-7743 to book a visit anywhere in the GTA.
How much room does it take on the stairs?
13½ inches (34.3 cm) folded, 25½ inches (64.8 cm) in use. That is about three inches more than the standard K2 folded, so on a narrow staircase we measure carefully and will tell you honestly if the K2 is the better fit.
Does the K2 Plus work during a power failure?
Yes. It is battery operated with continuous charging along the rail, so the chair charges wherever it sits and can be used several times during an outage. On the standard K2 continuous charging is a paid option; here it is included.
How steep a staircase can it handle?
30 to 55 degrees, with up to 32 ft of travel, on either side of a straight-run staircase. Anything with a turn or a landing needs a curved stairlift instead.
Is the K2 Plus covered by ADP?
No. Stairlifts are not covered by Ontario's Assistive Devices Program, whatever you may read elsewhere. March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs, WSIB, ODSP, IFHP and the Ontario Seniors' Home Safety Tax Credit are the routes that do apply, and we complete the paperwork with you.
