IFHP medical equipment coverage
The IFHP provides limited, temporary coverage for eligible beneficiaries, and its supplemental benefits can include medical supplies and equipment. Since May 1, 2026, beneficiaries pay a 30 percent co-payment for eligible supplemental products and services, including assistive devices.
Eligibility, the benefit-grid item and registered-provider status all have to be confirmed before anything is supplied. We do that checking with you, then prepare the quote and documents.
What the IFHP may cover, and what to confirm first
This is temporary, limited coverage tied to your eligibility category and the benefit grid. Not all equipment is covered, and the co-payment applies.
May be considered
Supplemental benefits for eligible beneficiaries.
- Medical supplies on the benefit grid for your category
- Medical equipment and assistive devices on the grid
- Items prescribed or supported as the grid requires
- Supplied through a registered provider
Confirm before ordering
Coverage ends when eligibility ends, so timing matters as much as the item.
- Your eligibility category and certificate, and the coverage end date
- The exact benefit-grid item for the equipment
- The 30 percent co-payment you pay on eligible supplemental products since May 1, 2026
- Registered-provider status for the item
- Anything not on the grid, which is not covered
What needs to happen before you order
Four steps, and the first two are eligibility rather than equipment.
Confirm eligibility
The IFHP certificate and eligibility category decide whether coverage exists at all, and coverage is temporary. We start from what your document says.
Check the benefit grid
We verify the equipment is an eligible benefit-grid item for your category before quoting, so nobody orders something the program will not cover.
Quote with the co-payment shown
The itemized quote shows the estimated 30 percent co-payment on the eligible supplemental amount. Medavie Blue Cross, which administers IFHP claims, confirms the final figure, and any costs outside the benefit grid, if applicable, are additional.
Confirm provider status, then supply
Registered-provider status is confirmed for the item, then we deliver and set up. Claims are administered for the IFHP by Medavie Blue Cross.
What documents should you have ready?
The five that an IFHP equipment request turns on.
Westin prepares
- Benefit-grid check for the equipment you need
- The itemized quote with the co-payment separated
- Product documents for the claim
- Delivery and setup once everything is confirmed
The IFHP decides
- Eligibility and how long coverage lasts
- Which benefit-grid items are covered
- The co-payment that applies
- Claim administration through Medavie Blue Cross
Common IFHP equipment questions
If yours is not here, call us on 905 451-7743.
Who is covered by the IFHP?
Eligible beneficiaries are certain refugee claimants, resettled refugees and protected persons, among others the program defines, for a limited period. Coverage is tied to your eligibility category and ends when that status ends, so the certificate and its dates come first in every conversation.
Does the IFHP cover equipment?
It can. Supplemental benefits for eligible beneficiaries can include medical supplies and equipment. What matters is whether your specific item is on the benefit grid for your category; we check that before quoting so you never order equipment the program will not cover.
What is the co-payment?
Since May 1, 2026, IFHP beneficiaries pay a 30 percent co-payment for eligible supplemental products and services, including assistive devices. Your quote shows the covered portion and your estimated share separately; Medavie Blue Cross confirms the final eligible amount, and any out-of-grid costs are additional.
Is all medical equipment covered?
No, and we will not imply otherwise. Coverage is limited to benefit-grid items for your eligibility category, supplied as the grid requires. Equipment outside the grid is a private-pay or charitable-funding question, and we will say so plainly.
Do you bill the IFHP directly?
Where the item is on the grid and registered-provider status is confirmed, the covered portion can be billed to the program, administered by Medavie Blue Cross, with you paying the co-payment. We confirm both before supply rather than assume.
Is IFHP the same as Blue Cross coverage?
No. The IFHP is a federal temporary health program whose claims Medavie Blue Cross administers; a private Blue Cross plan is insurance you or an employer hold, with its own rules. They behave differently and the pages are separate: see Blue Cross coverage for the private-plan route.
Bring your IFHP certificate and we will check the rest.
We verify eligibility and the benefit-grid item, quote with the co-payment shown, and confirm provider status before anything is supplied.
Read the official rules
* The Interim Federal Health Program is administered by the federal government, with claims processed by Medavie Blue Cross. Eligibility categories, benefit-grid items, the co-payment and provider rules change without notice, and only the program determines what it covers. Nothing on this page is an approval or a guarantee of coverage.
