Span America Retractable Power Cord Reel and Placement Arm MC7 TiMOTION and MC9

(0 review)

The Span America Retractable Power Cord Reel and Placement Arm MC7 TiMOTION and MC9 (Q6741) is a Savaria Patient Care bed accessory that keeps the bed's power supply cord off the floor. Savaria prints it as "Retractable power cord cable reel and placement arm". Westin Healthcare specifies and supplies Span beds in Brampton and across the GTA.

Before you quote this The kit already contains a placement arm, so do not add Q6740 to the same order. Confirm the control system: the pricelist restricts this row to MC7 built with TiMOTION, the same split Savaria uses on the battery backups. MC9 fitment comes from the pricelist row title only. The Weigh Scale MC7WS item table prints Q6740 but not Q6741, so that fitment needs confirming. Not a QD1000 or Rexx part. Savaria publishes no reel cord length, current rating or dimension; the 2.5 m cord figure in the specs is the bed's own supply cord.

Description

The Span America Retractable Power Cord Reel and Placement Arm (manufacturer code Q6741) is a Savaria Patient Care bed accessory. Savaria prints it as "Retractable power cord cable reel and placement arm" in the SPAN ReadyWide brochure, in the Span long term care beds catalogue, and in the Product Codes table on the SPAN ReadyWide page, and the Savaria 2026 pricelist lists it for MC7 beds built with TiMOTION controls and for MC9. Westin Healthcare specifies, supplies and services Span beds in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.

This kit includes the arm. Savaria's description is a cable reel and a placement arm, which means the arm is in the box. If Q6741 is on your order you do not add Q6740, the floor placement arm on its own, as well. Q6740 is the code for a bed that needs the arm without the reel.

The problem this accessory is bought to solve

Span is unusually direct about the power cord in its own owner manuals, and that is the clearest way to explain what a cord reel is for on a bed like this.

  • As standard, Span supplies a Velcro strap. The manual says: "To keep the power supply cord off the floor when moving or storing the bed, you need to secure the cord using the Velcro Strap." That is a manual step somebody has to remember on every move.
  • Span warns: "Ensure that no damage is made to cables, including the power supply cord, by rolling the bed over them or compromising them while operating the bed."
  • Span warns again about routing: improper routing of the power supply cord "could result in injury or death", and cable ties that keep the cord away from moving parts must not be removed.
  • Before the bed is moved, Span's checklist item is that "the Power Supply Cord is unplugged and the cord is safely stored off the floor".
  • Span's preventative maintenance schedule asks you to inspect the cord for nicks and crushed insulation and to replace it with original manufacturer parts only if it is damaged.

These beds are built to be moved at any height and to lower to 7-7/8 inches, so a cord on the floor is both a trip risk and something the bed can roll over. A reel is the answer to a problem Span has documented rather than a convenience add-on.

Which beds this fits

Read this before you order, because Savaria splits several of its bed options by control system and the codes are not interchangeable.

  • Printed by Span in the brochures: the Advantage ReadyWide MC7 series (MC7W, MC7WM, MC7WL, MC7WML and the ReadyWide Plus MC7WPML). Q6741 sits in the ReadyWide item code table and in the long term care catalogue.
  • Listed by Savaria in the 2026 pricelist: MC7 built with TiMOTION controls, and MC9. Both the TiMOTION qualifier and the MC9 extension come from the pricelist, not from the brochure line.
  • Not printed in the Weigh Scale brochure: the MC7WS item table carries Q6740 but not Q6741, so a Weigh Scale fitment is a question for Savaria rather than an assumption.
  • Not this part: the Advantage QD1000 Q-Series and the Rexx QD2000 run separate accessory families.

Span builds the same bed families with more than one actuator and control system. That is why Savaria splits the battery backup into a TiMOTION pair, Q6700 field and Q6701 factory, and a separate LINAK pair for the ReadyWide Plus. It is the same reason this row carries a TiMOTION qualifier. If you do not know which one your bed has, do not guess. Call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number from the bed label and we will identify it before anything is ordered.

The beds this belongs to are the ReadyWide MC7 range and the Span Encore package, alongside the Span Weigh Scale bed on the same MC7 platform, the Span Advantage Q-Series and the Span Rexx.

Span cord reel and placement arm specifications

Savaria publishes the code and the description for this kit and nothing else. It does not publish a reel cord length, a current rating, an outlet count, a dimension or a weight, and we will not invent one. The electrical figures below are the bed's own supply, from the Span owner manuals, and they are here because they are what an electrician or a facilities manager will ask for. They do not describe the reel.

One further note from the manuals that catches people out on installation: Span requires the wall receptacle to be marked "Hospital Grade" or "Hospital Only", and says to check with a certified electrician. A reel does not change that requirement.

One thing worth keeping in mind on every Span accessory. Span states in both owner manuals that the safe working load includes the weight of accessories, options and bedding, not just the person in the bed. The Encore MC9 is rated at 600 lb (272 kg) safe working load with a maximum patient weight of 450 lb (204 kg). The Advantage ReadyWide MC7 Standard is rated at 500 lb (227 kg) safe working load with a maximum patient weight of 350 lb (159 kg), and the ReadyWide Plus is rated at 650 lb (295 kg). Every option you bolt on uses part of that allowance, so it is worth totalling the build rather than adding parts one at a time.

Ordering and fitting in Brampton and the GTA

This is a part for a bed that is already in service, so the useful question is who puts it on. Westin Healthcare's own technicians fit Span bed parts in homes and in facilities across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area, and we have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather talk it through in person. Orders travel by standard parcel or freight depending on the equipment, and White Glove Delivery is available for eligible products in Toronto and the GTA. The delivery method, any exclusions, and any charge are set out on the shipping policy and confirmed on your order before you commit. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page with the model and serial number from the bed label and we will confirm the part before anything ships.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on a Span bed or one of its accessories needs work, you call the shop that supplied it. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department and our own technicians come to the home or the workplace across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

Span manufacturer warranty

Span Medical Products Canada warrants all beds and bed accessories sold by Span to be free from defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use and service from the date of initial delivery. Bed accessories carry one year and parts subject to wear carry one year, which is the row this part sits in. Electrical components, meaning the control box and all actuators, carry five years. The frame carries fifteen years and all welds on steel structural components carry fifteen years. Labour for service is not part of the manufacturer warranty, and the warranty does not apply where a product has been abused, misused, improperly maintained, exposed to excessive loads, or altered without Span's approval. Span also states plainly that using replacement parts or accessories from other manufacturers will invalidate the warranty and could damage the bed, so a generic substitute is a false economy on a Span bed. We handle the claim with you.

The other Span accessory we already stock by its Savaria code is the Span Q6699 ergonomic transport dolly set, which is the part for moving these beds through narrow halls, and moving the bed is exactly when the cord matters most. Frequently asked questions

What is the manufacturer code?

Q6741. Savaria prints it as "Retractable power cord cable reel and placement arm" in the SPAN ReadyWide brochure, the Span long term care beds catalogue and the ReadyWide product codes table.

Does this include the placement arm, or do I order that separately?

It is included. Savaria's own description is a cable reel and a placement arm. Q6740 is the arm on its own, for a bed that does not need the reel. Ordering both codes buys two arms.

How long is the reel cord?

Savaria does not publish it, so we do not quote it. The 2.5 metre figure in the specification table is the length of the bed's own power supply cord from the Span owner manual, not the reel's travel. If the reel length is decisive for your room, tell us before you order and we will ask Savaria in writing.

How do I know whether my bed is TiMOTION or LINAK?

The bed and control box labels identify it. If you cannot find them, call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number and we will check. Savaria splits several bed options by control system, so this is the one check worth making before any of them is ordered.

Will it fit my Encore MC9?

The Savaria 2026 pricelist lists this code for MC7 TiMOTION and MC9. The ReadyWide brochure prints it against the MC7 range only. We confirm Encore fitment with Savaria before ordering rather than assuming it.

Can I put this on a Weigh Scale bed?

Ask us first. The Weigh Scale brochure item table prints Q6740 but not Q6741, so that fitment is not documented and we will confirm it with Savaria rather than guess.

Does a reel replace the Velcro strap?

Span supplies the Velcro strap as the standard way to keep the cord off the floor when the bed is moved or stored, and its instruction to store the cord safely before moving the bed stands either way. Treat the reel as the mechanical way to meet that requirement rather than as permission to skip it.

What is the warranty?

One year. Span bed accessories carry one year, and cables carry one year, in the manufacturer's warranty table. Labour for service is not part of the manufacturer warranty.
