Description
The Span America Rexx bed is Span's Q-Series low long-term care hospital bed. Span America is a Savaria company. Westin Healthcare quotes it, delivers it, and sets it up for long-term care homes and for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area whose therapist has asked for this platform.
Three motors move the height, the back, and the knee from one hand pendant. Span's Rexx catalog sheet lists a floor-to-deck range of 7-7/8 inches to 26 inches, a 450 lb (204 kg) safe working load, and a 35 inch sleep surface that is 80 inches long on the usual frame (76 inches on the youth length). The bed travels almost straight up and down, so it does not walk into the wall as it rises. A mattress is not included.
Savaria Patient Care now lists Rexx as a legacy product: it is no longer in current production. We still quote the QD2000 family when the care team has named this platform, and we will tell you honestly if we need to move the room to the current Span America Advantage or Span America Encore.
Who this bed is for
This bed is for a long-term care setting, or for a private home that needs a low, full-electric clinical frame without the retractable deck or integrated width expanders of the newer Span beds. It is not a basic homecare package. Span writes the Rexx for resting and sleeping in a long-term care environment: a no-sag grid deck, mobility at any height, and an optional staff lockout when the foot-end controller is fitted.
Purchasing coordinators and directors of care usually call us when a resident needs a low deck with a 450 lb safe working load and a 35 inch sleep surface. Families call when a therapist has named this platform. If you want the Span long-term care bed with a retractable deck and a wider ReadyWide surface, see the Span America Encore. If you want the current Span Advantage with a 500 lb safe working load and a 30 inch high position, see the Span America Advantage. If you want a simpler homecare package, start with the Drive Delta 1000. If the load on the bed (the person, the mattress, the boards, and the rails) is near or over 450 lbs, ask us about the Drive 15300LW 42-inch bariatric bed instead of stretching this safe working load.
- Long-term care homes and retirement residences that need a low resident bed with a grid deck
- Private homes where a therapist has asked for the Span Rexx QD2000
- Anyone who needs electric height, back, and knee on a 35 inch deck, and may add staff lockout later
What you get
The Rexx we quote is the QD2000 family. The usual quote is the 35 inch by 80 inch frame (QD2000). Use Model if you need the 76 inch youth length or the factory build with 360-degree mobility, a floor lock, and a foot-end staff controller. The hand pendant runs height, back, and knee. Span's 3 inch total-locking casters are on the frame. Mobility at any height is standard. The MLF rows add 360-degree mobility, the floor lock, and the foot-end controller as one factory build.
Head and foot boards and side rails are quoted with the bed. A mattress is not included. The optional 42 inch tool-less expander kit (Q6709), transport dollies (Q6587), and a 24 V backup battery are quoted if the care team asked for them.
- Hand pendant for height, back, and knee
- Three DC actuators
- Precision-welded orthopedic grid deck with anchored corner mattress retainers
- Individually powder-coated components with a flexible polyester anti-microbial finish
- Vascular foot ratchet
- Honeycomb roller bumpers and arched legs
- Heavy-duty 3 inch total-locking swivel casters, mobility at any height from 7-7/8 to 26 inches
- Optional 24 V backup battery, sold separately
Span America Rexx specifications
These figures are for the Span America Rexx QD2000 family. They come from Span's Rexx / Fast Rexx catalog sheet 19E and the Rexx brochure. They are not the Fast Rexx (QD2250), Advantage, ReadyWide, or Encore sheets. The specification tab holds the stored values.
Span's catalog sheet lists a floor-to-deck height of 7-7/8 inches to 26 inches and a sleep surface of 35 inches wide by 80 inches long (76 inches on QD2000Y). Overall length with the boards and wall bumpers on is 88-1/2 inches on the 80 inch deck and 84-1/2 inches on the 76 inch deck. Overall width with side rails is 40-1/2 inches. Safe working load is 450 lbs (204 kg) for the person, the mattress, the boards, the rails, and anything else on the bed. Back elevation is 0 to 70 degrees. Knee elevation is 0 to 20 degrees. Bed weight without accessories is 170 lbs (78 kg).
Warranty on Span's Rexx brochure for the original purchaser is 15 years on the frame, 15 years on welds, and 5 years on mechanical parts.
Do not read the Fast Rexx 28 inch high position or 20-second rise onto this bed. Do not read Advantage Comfort Chair, Trendelenburg, or a 500 lb safe working load onto Rexx. Do not read Encore GlideAlign, Smart Stop, or a 600 lb safe working load onto Rexx.
Model
Use Model to pick the sleep length and whether the frame ships as the base bed or as the factory MLF build. Head and foot boards, rails, the 42 inch expander kit, dollies, and a backup battery are quoted with the room.
- 35 x 80 in (QD2000)
- 35 x 76 in (QD2000Y)
- 35 x 80 in, 360 mobility + floor lock + FEC (QD2000MLF)
- 35 x 76 in, 360 mobility + floor lock + FEC (QD2000YMLF)
Fast Rexx (QD2250) is a different Span frame with a faster rise and a 28 inch high position. Ask us if the care team named Fast Rexx rather than Rexx.
Which Span bed this is
Rexx shares the Advantage / Rexx board drill and many of the same optional rails. We already stock Lincoln 36 inch Rexx / Advantage boards (LI'3611'F02'MT), Standard 36 inch Candle Light boards (ST-3611-002-MTCL), Standard 36 inch Shiraz Cherry boards (ST-3611-002-MTSH), and the Advantage / Rexx molded half-rail set (RAD308H). Ask us to add those to the quote. Do not put Encore F05 boards on this frame.
A mattress is sized to the deck you will run: 35 inches by 80 inches on QD2000, 35 inches by 76 inches on QD2000Y, or 42 inches wide if we fit the Q6709 expander. Ask us for a therapeutic surface in that size. Use rails and mattresses that fit this frame, and keep the mattress centred so the person cannot slip into a gap.
Related Span beds we already sell: the Span America Encore if you want GlideAlign and ReadyWide expansion with a 600 lb safe working load, and the Span America Advantage if you want the current 500 lb Q-Series bed that raises to 30 inches. See all hospital beds if you are still choosing a platform.
Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.
Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Span America manufacturer warranty
Span America's published warranty on the Rexx brochure for the original purchaser is 15 years on the frame, 15 years on welds, and 5 years on mechanical parts. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Does OHIP cover hospital beds?
No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, other programs may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.
Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not list hospital beds among funded mobility aids. Other programs may still help, depending on the person. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with.
Is the Span America Rexx still made?
Savaria Patient Care lists the Rexx as a legacy product that is no longer in current production. Westin Healthcare still quotes the QD2000 family when a therapist has named it, and we will tell you if we need to move the room to the current Span Advantage or Encore.
What is the difference between a full-electric and a semi-electric hospital bed?
The Span America Rexx is full electric. The hand pendant moves height, back, and knee. A semi-electric bed usually moves the head and foot with a motor and leaves height to a crank. Comfort Chair and Trendelenburg are not functions on this frame.
How is the Rexx different from the Span America Advantage?
Both are Span Q-Series long-term care beds that lower to 7-7/8 inches and share the same board drill. The Span America Advantage has a 500 lb safe working load, a 30 inch high position, a 0 to 30 degree knee, and four motors, with optional Comfort Chair and Trendelenburg on the foot-end controller. The Rexx has a 450 lb safe working load, a 26 inch high position, a 0 to 20 degree knee, and three motors.
How is the Rexx different from the Span America Encore?
Both lower to 7-7/8 inches. The Span America Encore adds GlideAlign (12 inches of deck retraction), ReadyWide expansion from 36 to 42 inches, a 600 lb safe working load, and a 31 inch high position. The Rexx stays on a 35 inch deck (42 inches only if we add kit Q6709), a 450 lb safe working load, and a 26 inch high position, without the retractable deck.
What mattress fits the Span America Rexx?
Span's sleep surface on QD2000 is 35 inches wide by 80 inches long (76 inches on QD2000Y). A mattress is not included, so we size a hospital-bed mattress to that deck. If we fit the Q6709 expander, we size a 42 inch surface instead. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure or low-air-loss surface.
Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?
Westin Healthcare rents standard full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. The Rexx itself is a quote and purchase item. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to the bed you keep.
What is included with this Span America Rexx?
You get the Rexx full-electric frame with the hand pendant, the grid deck, casters, bumpers, and mattress stops, in the Model you pick. Head and foot boards and side rails are quoted with the bed. A mattress is not included. The 42 inch expander, dollies, and backup battery are optional.
What is the weight capacity of the Span America Rexx?
Span lists a 450 lb (204 kg) safe working load for the person, the mattress, the boards, the rails, and anything else on the bed. If that combined load is near 450 lbs, ask us about a bariatric hospital bed instead of stretching this frame.
What happens if the power goes out?
A 24 V backup battery is optional and is not on Model. Ask us for the Rexx battery pack if you want the bed to move during an outage. Without that pack the bed stays where it was when the power failed.
What is the warranty on the Span America Rexx?
Span's Rexx brochure covers the frame for 15 years, welds for 15 years, and mechanical parts for 5 years for the original purchaser. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.
