Description

The SPAN Weigh Scale Bed is Span America's ReadyWide-based long-term care hospital bed with a built-in weigh scale. Span America is a Savaria company. Westin Healthcare quotes it, delivers it, and sets it up for long-term care homes and for families in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area whose care team has asked for in-bed weighing on this platform.

The scale lives in the frame. Staff take a weight from an independent scale pendant without a second transfer onto a stand-on scale. ReadyWide expands the sleep surface from 36 inches to 39 inches, then to 42 inches. Four motors move height, back, and knee. A bed pendant and a foot-end staff controller share the positioning work. Span lists a floor-to-deck range of 8-5/8 inches to 32-1/4 inches, a 500 lb safe working load on the Standard bed, and a 650 lb safe working load on the Plus bed.

This is not the plain ReadyWide we already stock (manufacturer MC7W). That sibling has the same ReadyWide expanders and Smart Stop, and it does not have a built-in scale. It also lowers farther, to 7-7/8 inches. This is not the Span America Encore. Encore adds GlideAlign deck retraction and a 600 lb safe working load, and it does not have a built-in scale. If you want a simpler Span long-term care deck without ReadyWide or a scale, see the Span America Advantage.

Who this bed is for

This bed is for a long-term care setting, or for a private home that needs the same clinical features a care home would specify, including a built-in scale. Span writes the MC7 ReadyWide family for Application Environment 3 (long-term care): staff lockouts, Comfort Chair, Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg, and Smart Stop. It is not a basic homecare frame.

Purchasing coordinators and directors of care usually call us when a resident needs regular weights and the team wants to stop transferring that person onto a separate scale. Families call when a therapist has named this platform. If you want ReadyWide expansion without the scale, ask us to quote the Span America ReadyWide we already stock. If you want GlideAlign retraction instead of a scale, see the Encore.

  • Long-term care homes and retirement residences that need in-bed weighing and an expandable resident deck
  • Private homes where a therapist has asked for a built-in scale, Smart Stop, or ReadyWide
  • Anyone who needs electric height, back, and knee plus staff-only Trendelenburg and Comfort Chair

What you get

The default on this page is manufacturer code MC7WSML: the Standard 500 lb Weigh Scale Bed with ReadyWide, mobility, floor locks, and the standard foot-end staff controller. ReadyWide expanders ship on the frame. The independent scale pendant moves around the bed. The bed pendant runs everyday height, back, knee, and auto-contour. The foot-end staff controller adds lockouts, Comfort Chair, Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg, and rapid head lowering.

Smart Stop pauses lowering at 12.5 inches. Only the staff controller can take the deck the rest of the way down to 8-5/8 inches. Lights flash in that low zone. The under-bed lights can stay on as night lighting. A mattress is not on this page. Rails, head and footboards, the 4 inch extender, and battery backup are quoted with the room.

  • Built-in weigh scale with an independent scale pendant
  • Bed pendant and foot-end staff controller with lockout
  • ReadyWide two-click expansion, 36 to 39 to 42 inches
  • Smart Stop auto-pause at 12.5 inches
  • Comfort Chair, Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg, auto-contour
  • Trapezoidal slat deck, antimicrobial coating, vascular foot ratchet
  • Vertical lift with virtually no horizontal travel
  • Mobility at any height and floor locks, as on the factory code
  • Optional nurse-call connection, 4 inch extender to 84 inches, molded half rails, and transport dollies on the quote

SPAN Weigh Scale Bed specifications

These figures are for the SPAN Weigh Scale Bed. They come from Span's Weigh Scale brochure (PL Span Weigh Scale Bed, CO# 2937 Rev. 0) and the live Savaria Patient Care card. The specification tab holds the stored values. They are not the plain ReadyWide sheet and not the Encore sheet.

Span lists a floor-to-deck height of 8-5/8 inches to 32-1/4 inches, a sleep surface of 36, 39, or 42 inches wide and 76, 80, or 84 inches long, and an overall length of 82, 86, or 90 inches with the boards on. The 84 inch sleep length needs Span's 4 inch extender kit. The Standard bed weighs 297 lb without accessories. The Plus bed weighs 301 lb. Back elevation is 0 to 70 degrees. Knee elevation is 0 to 30 degrees.

Safe working load is 500 lb on MC7WSML and MC7WSTML, or 650 lb on MC7WSP, for the person, the mattress, the boards, the rails, and anything else on the bed. The MC7 family owner manual also prints a 350 lb maximum patient weight on the 500 lb platform. Ask us before you plan a Plus occupant number; Span has not printed one on the Weigh Scale card.

Do not read the plain ReadyWide's 7-7/8 inch low, 259 lb frame, or missing scale onto this bed. Do not read the Encore's GlideAlign travel or 600 lb safe working load onto this bed.

Model options

Use Model to pick the safe working load and the foot-end staff controller. The default on this page is the 500 lb Standard bed with standard foot-end controls (MC7WSML). All three factory codes include ReadyWide, mobility, and floor locks. Width is not a sold size. A mattress is not on this page. Ask us to size a therapeutic surface to the width and length you will run.

  • 500 lb, standard foot-end controls (MC7WSML)
  • 500 lb, premium foot-end controls (MC7WSTML)
  • 650 lb Plus (MC7WSP)

Which Span bed this is, and what it fits

This listing is the Weigh Scale member of the ReadyWide family. The scale pendant and the higher 8-5/8 inch low position are what you are buying. The plain ReadyWide we already stock is the same expandable deck without the scale. The Span America Encore is the premium retractable-deck sibling. The Span America Advantage is the 35 inch long-term care deck without ReadyWide and without a scale.

Match the mattress to the sleep surface you will run: 36, 39, or 42 inches wide and 76, 80, or 84 inches long. Match 36 inch boards to the rest deck, 40 inch boards to the 39 inch stop, and 43 inch boards to the 42 inch stop. Half-head rails, 3-position assists, and split rails are Span parts on the quote. Do not put a homecare 36 by 80 mattress on a deck you have already expanded to 42 inches.

Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.

Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Span America manufacturer warranty

Span America's standard warranty for the original purchaser is 15 years on the frame, 15 years on welds, 5 years on the control box and actuators, and 1 year on batteries, hand pendants, foot-end controllers, cables, wear parts, and bed accessories. Labour is not included. Those terms are printed in Span's MC7 family owner manual and on the Weigh Scale brochure. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does OHIP cover hospital beds?

No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.

Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?

No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.

How is this different from the Span America ReadyWide?

Both are MC7 ReadyWide long-term care beds with two-click expansion and Smart Stop. This listing adds the built-in scale and the independent scale pendant. The deck here lowers to 8-5/8 inches and the Standard frame weighs 297 lb. The plain ReadyWide we stock lowers to 7-7/8 inches, weighs less, and has no scale. Ask us to quote ReadyWide if you do not need in-bed weighing.

How is this different from the Span America Encore?

The Span America Encore is the premium retractable-deck sibling. It adds GlideAlign (12 inches of deck retraction), a 600 lb safe working load, and a 7-7/8 inch low. It does not have a built-in scale. Choose this Weigh Scale Bed when the care team wants weights without a second transfer. Choose Encore when they want the retractable deck.

Is the SPAN Weigh Scale Bed a home care bed?

Span specifies the MC7 ReadyWide family as a long-term care bed, not a basic homecare frame. Families still order it when a therapist wants a built-in scale, Smart Stop, or ReadyWide in a private bedroom. If you need a standard homecare package, ask us about the Drive Delta 1000 family instead.

What mattress fits the SPAN Weigh Scale Bed?

Span's sleep surface is 36, 39, or 42 inches wide and 76, 80, or 84 inches long. This listing does not include a mattress, so we size the surface to the width and length you will run. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating-pressure or low-air-loss surface.

What is the weight capacity of the SPAN Weigh Scale Bed?

Span lists a 500 lb safe working load on the Standard codes and a 650 lb safe working load on the Plus code, for the person, the mattress, the boards, the rails, and anything else on the bed. The MC7 family owner manual also prints a 350 lb maximum patient weight on the 500 lb platform. If the person is near that occupant limit, ask us about a bariatric hospital bed instead of stretching this frame.

Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?

Westin Healthcare rents standard full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages and rates on the hospital bed rentals page. The SPAN Weigh Scale Bed itself is a quote and purchase item. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program so we can apply the program rules to the bed you keep.

How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.

What is included with the SPAN Weigh Scale Bed?

You get the Weigh Scale ReadyWide frame for the Model you pick, the independent scale pendant, the bed pendant, and the foot-end staff controller. ReadyWide expanders, mobility, and floor locks are on the three factory codes. A mattress is not on this page. Rails, boards, the 4 inch extender, and battery backup are quoted with the room.

What happens if the power goes out?

A backup battery is optional. Span lists a factory-installed pack (Q6770) on the Weigh Scale brochure. Ask us to add it on the quote if you want the bed to move during an outage. The base listing does not include a factory battery.

What is the warranty on the SPAN Weigh Scale Bed?

For the original purchaser, Span covers the frame for 15 years, welds for 15 years, the control box and actuators for 5 years, and batteries, pendants, foot-end controllers, cables, wear parts, and accessories for 1 year. Those terms are printed on the Weigh Scale brochure and in the MC7 family owner manual. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.
