Description
The Savaria Bed Battery Backup MC7 TiMOTION and MC9, Factory Installed (manufacturer code Q6701) is the backup battery Span builds into the bed at the factory. Span describes the backup battery as being "for use when there is a power outage, or the bed needs to be operated where there is no power source nearby". Savaria prints this code in the Encore brochure, the ReadyWide brochure, and on both bed product pages, so it is the standard factory battery option across the two platforms. Westin Healthcare specifies, supplies, and services Span beds in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.
This is the factory code. It goes on a new bed order and arrives already fitted and tested. To add a battery to a bed that is already in a room, order the field-install version instead, Q6700.
Which beds this fits
Read this before you order, because Savaria supplies a different battery code depending on the bed's control system and model tier, and the codes are not interchangeable.
- This part, Q6701: Encore MC9 beds, and Advantage ReadyWide MC7 Standard beds built with the TiMOTION control system. The ReadyWide brochure prints it as the battery backup for the Standard model, factory installed.
- Q6700: the same beds, field installed on a bed already in service.
- Q6770 and Q6769: the ReadyWide Plus model built with LINAK controls, factory and field. Not this part. The ReadyWide brochure prints Q6770 on its own line directly under Q6701.
- Q6680 and Q6682: Advantage T-motion beds, factory and field. Not this part.
Check the bed before you order. If you do not know which control system yours has, call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number from the bed label and we will identify it. On the Encore side this is the MC9RW family sold as the Span Encore package. On the Advantage side it is the ReadyWide MC7 range that sits alongside the Span Advantage Q-Series. Savaria also builds the Span Weigh Scale bed on the MC7 platform.
One check that saves money. Savaria describes two Encore builds as already including this battery: the MC9RWZ, which is the Encore ReadyWide with battery backup, and the MC9RWZB-C, which adds boxed delivery and a factory-installed USB charger. If you are ordering either of those, the battery is in the bed and you do not add Q6701 on top. If you are ordering a plain MC9RW, Q6701 is how you add it. Tell us which build you are quoting and we will make sure the line is right.
If you arrived here for a different manufacturer's bed, the equivalent we stock for a Drive PrimeCare is the Drive P903 battery backup. Span and Drive parts do not cross over.
Savaria bed battery backup specifications
These figures come from the Span owner manuals for the Encore MC9R and the Advantage ReadyWide MC7, which print the same backup battery section.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Battery type | Lead acid |
| Input voltage | 30 VDC (29 VDC minimum, 45 VDC maximum) |
| Output voltage | 24 VDC |
| Duty cycle | 10 percent, maximum 2 minutes on and 18 minutes off |
| Emergency power pack rating | 24 V DC battery, listed as optional in both bed specification tables |
| Charge indicator | LED on the battery shows charge status |
| Installation | Factory, built into the bed before it ships |
| Warranty | 1 year |
Span does not publish a runtime, an amp-hour capacity, or a number of bed movements per charge, and we will not invent one. What is published is the duty cycle. The bed and the battery are both rated at 10 percent, meaning a maximum of two minutes running followed by eighteen minutes off. A backup battery on these beds is for repositioning a person and getting the bed to a safe height during an outage, not for running the bed continuously.
Keep the bed's total load in mind as well. The safe working load includes the weight of accessories, options, and bedding: 600 lb on the Encore MC9, 500 lb on the Standard ReadyWide MC7, and 650 lb on the ReadyWide Plus. Every option you add uses part of that allowance.
Charging and keeping the battery healthy
Span is specific about this, and following it is what makes the battery there when you need it.
- The battery charges through the bed. It must be plugged into the bed's control box, and the control box must be connected to AC power.
- Always keep the battery plugged into the control box. It is not a shelf item you connect when a storm is coming.
- Charge it continuously for at least 24 hours before first use, before a long period in storage, and again after a long period in storage or any long stretch with the bed unplugged.
- The LED on the battery shows charge status.
- The battery is replaceable, and Span states it should be replaced only with a battery provided by Span Medical Products Canada. Ask us and we will order the correct one.
Span also warns that using replacement parts or accessories from other manufacturers on a Span bed can invalidate the warranty and damage the bed. A generic lead acid pack is not a substitute.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Because this is the factory option, it arrives inside the bed. Westin's own team delivers and sets up Span beds across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area: we bring the bed in, assemble it, and show you the hand control and the foot end controller before we leave. We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page to book a date.
Hospital beds are oversized, so the Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply to the bed itself. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery is described on the shipping policy. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed or an accessory needs work, you call the shop that supplied it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department and our technicians come to the home or the workplace.
Span manufacturer warranty
Span Medical Products Canada warrants beds and bed accessories against defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use from the date of initial delivery. Batteries, hand pendants, foot end controllers, and cables carry one year, and that is the row this part sits in. Bed accessories carry one year. Electrical components, meaning the control box and the actuators, carry five years. The frame and all welds on steel structural components carry fifteen years. The manufacturer warranty does not cover labour for service. We handle the claim with you.
Frequently asked questions
What is the manufacturer code?
Q6701. Savaria prints it as the battery backup kit, factory installed, in the Encore brochure and as the battery backup for the Standard model, factory installed, in the ReadyWide brochure.
Does the Encore already come with a battery?
It depends on the build. Savaria describes the MC9RWZ and the MC9RWZB-C as including battery backup (Q6701). A plain MC9RW does not include it, and Q6701 is how you add it to a new order. Tell us the build you are quoting and we will get the line right.
Should I order factory or field?
Factory, this code, if the bed has not been built yet. Field, Q6700, if the bed is already in a room. Savaria offers the built-in backup battery both ways.
How do I know whether my bed is TiMOTION or LINAK?
The bed and control box labels identify it. If you cannot find it, call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number and we will check before anything is ordered. The codes are not interchangeable, so this is the one check worth making.
How long will the bed run on the battery?
Span does not publish a runtime, an amp-hour rating, or a number of movements per charge, so we do not quote one. The published duty cycle is 10 percent, a maximum of two minutes on and eighteen minutes off. Treat it as enough to reposition a person and bring the bed to a safe height during an outage.
Do I have to leave it plugged in?
Yes. Span states the battery must be plugged into the bed's control box with the control box connected to AC power in order to charge, and that you should always keep it plugged in. Charge it continuously for at least 24 hours before first use and around any long period of storage.
Can I use a generic battery when it wears out?
No. Span states the battery must be replaced only with a battery provided by Span Medical Products Canada, and warns that parts from other manufacturers can invalidate the warranty and damage the bed.
What is the warranty?
One year. Batteries sit in Span's one-year row along with hand pendants, foot end controllers, and cables, not in the five-year electrical components row. Labour for service is not part of the manufacturer warranty.
