Description
The Span America Drainage Bag Holder MC9 (manufacturer code Q6738) is the Savaria Patient Care drainage bag holder for the Span Encore MC9 bed. Savaria lists drainage hardware among the Encore's optional accessories in its own catalogue material, and lists this code against the MC9 platform in its 2026 range. Westin Healthcare specifies, supplies and services Span beds in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.
An honest note before you read on. Savaria gives this holder a code, a name and a platform. It does not publish a capacity, a dimension, a material or a mounting point for it, and we will not fill those gaps with guesses. What we can do is tell you what Span does say about hanging equipment on this particular bed, and confirm the detail with Savaria before your order is placed.
Why a bed-specific holder on an Encore
A drainage bag on a Span Encore is not hanging on a static frame. Span's own owner manual sets out why the mounting matters.
- The bed goes very low. Its height range is 7-7/8 inches to 31 inches. SmartStop deliberately pauses the descent at 12-1/2 inches, and the last stretch down has to be driven from the foot end staff controller, so that somebody checks the area under the bed is clear of any body parts or foreign objects first. Anything hanging low is part of that check.
- The deck retracts. The GlideAlign deck travels 12 inches during normal use, so the space around the frame changes while the bed is being used, not only when it is being moved.
- The bed gets moved with equipment on it. Span's transporting procedure asks for two people, asks you to walk the whole perimeter first "to ensure that no accessories will fall or get damaged", and states plainly that "all accessories used on the bed are secured or removed" before the bed goes anywhere.
- Everything you hang counts. The Encore's safe working load of 600 lb (272 kg) includes, in Span's words, "the weight of accessories, options and bedding".
A holder made for the bed is how you meet all four of those without improvising.
Which beds this fits
- Encore MC9 series. Savaria's 2026 pricelist names the MC9 platform for this code, and Savaria's Encore accessory lists include drainage hardware among the bed's options.
- Not stated for anything else. No Span brochure or owner manual names this code, so we make no claim about the Advantage ReadyWide MC7, the Weigh Scale MC7WS, the Advantage QD1000 or the Rexx. If you need a drainage bag holder on one of those, ask us and we will take the question to Savaria rather than substitute a part.
- Treat the MC9 wording as deliberate. Savaria does say "all bed models" when it means it, as it does for the Q6729 foot end equipment bar in the same range. Against this holder it names the MC9.
The Encore beds this belongs to are the base Span Encore package and the 2026 builds: the MC9RWB-C, the MC9RWZ and the MC9RWZB-C. They sit alongside the Span Weigh Scale bed and the Span Advantage Q-Series. Call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number from the bed label and we will confirm the platform before anything is ordered.
The bed this holder mounts to
These are published Encore MC9R figures from Span's owner manual. They describe the bed, not the holder, and they are here because they are the conditions the holder has to work in.

One thing worth keeping in mind on every Span accessory. Span states in the Encore owner manual that the safe working load includes the weight of accessories, options and bedding, not just the person in the bed. The Encore MC9 is rated at 600 lb (272 kg) safe working load with a maximum patient weight of 450 lb (204 kg). Every option you add uses part of that allowance, so it is worth totalling the build rather than adding parts one at a time.
Ordering and fitting in Brampton and the GTA

Span manufacturer warranty
Span Medical Products Canada warrants all beds and bed accessories sold by Span to be free from defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use and service from the date of initial delivery. Bed accessories carry one year and parts subject to wear carry one year, which is the row this part sits in. Electrical components, meaning the control box and all actuators, carry five years. The frame carries fifteen years and all welds on steel structural components carry fifteen years. Labour for service is not part of the manufacturer warranty, and the warranty does not apply where a product has been abused, misused, improperly maintained, exposed to excessive loads, or altered without Span's approval. Span also states plainly that using replacement parts or accessories from other manufacturers will invalidate the warranty and could damage the bed, so a generic substitute is a false economy on a Span bed. We handle the claim with you.

Frequently asked questions
What is the manufacturer code?
Q6738. Savaria lists it in its 2026 range as a drainage bag holder for the MC9 platform. Savaria's own Encore accessory lists also include drainage hardware among the bed's options.
How much does it hold, and where does it mount?
Savaria does not publish a capacity or a mounting point, and we are not going to invent either. Tell us your bed build and what you need it to carry and we will get both confirmed by Savaria before you commit to an order.
Will it fit my Advantage ReadyWide MC7?
Savaria's description names the MC9 platform only, so we do not claim an MC7 fitment. Ask us and we will find out what the right part is for that bed rather than substitute one.
Can the bag stay on when the bed is moved?
Span's own transporting procedure says all accessories used on the bed must be secured or removed before it is moved, and asks you to walk the perimeter first so nothing falls or gets damaged. Follow that regardless of what is holding the bag. We will ask Savaria whether the holder is designed to stay in place during a move.
Does hanging things on the bed affect its capacity?
Yes, and Span says so directly. The Encore's 600 lb (272 kg) safe working load includes the weight of accessories, options and bedding, not just the person. It is worth totalling the whole build rather than adding parts one at a time.
Why not just use a generic hook?
You can hang a bag off almost anything. On a bed that retracts 12 inches and drops to under 8, the question is what happens to it during a height change or a move. Span also states that using replacement parts or accessories from other manufacturers will invalidate the warranty and could damage the bed, which is worth knowing before improvising on a bed still under cover.
What is the warranty?
One year. Span bed accessories and parts subject to wear both carry one year in the manufacturer's warranty table. Labour for service is not part of the manufacturer warranty.
