Span America Head End Roller Bumpers MC7 and MC9

(0 review)

The Span America Head End Roller Bumpers MC7 and MC9 (Q6531) are the Savaria head end bumper kit for Span Encore MC9, Advantage ReadyWide MC7 and Weigh Scale MC7WS beds. Savaria prints the code as "roller bumper" on the Encore and "honeycomb roller bumper kit" on the MC7 platforms. Westin Healthcare specifies and supplies Span beds in Brampton and across the GTA.

Before you quote this The Advantage QD1000 runs its own bumper family, a head end kit (Q6599) and a side kit (Q6632), and the 2026 pricelist gives Q6531 the same "head end roller bumpers" wording the Advantage brochure uses for Q6599, so order against the bed rather than the description. Span beds already carry a baseboard bumper at the head end leg cross tube as standard; Savaria does not state whether this kit adds to it or replaces it, so check an in-service bed before quoting. Savaria publishes no projection, material, colour or piece count, and its own wording varies between singular, kit and plural, so confirm the piece count per order line. Not a Rexx QD2000 part.

Description

The Span America Head End Roller Bumpers (manufacturer code Q6531) are the Savaria Patient Care bumper kit for the head end of a Span bed. Savaria prints this code across three bed platforms: as "roller bumper" in the SPAN Encore brochure and product codes table, and as "honeycomb roller bumper kit" in the SPAN ReadyWide brochure, the SPAN Weigh Scale brochure and the Span long term care beds catalogue. Westin Healthcare specifies, supplies and services Span beds in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.

This is one of the few Span accessory codes where the manufacturer's brochures and the 2026 pricelist agree completely on fitment: MC7 and MC9 series beds, which covers the Encore, the Advantage ReadyWide and the Weigh Scale.

Which beds this fits

  • Encore MC9R series. Printed in the Encore brochure item code table and in the Encore product codes table.
  • Advantage ReadyWide MC7 series, including MC7W, MC7WM, MC7WL, MC7WML and the ReadyWide Plus MC7WPML. Printed in the ReadyWide brochure and product codes table.
  • Weigh Scale MC7WS series. Printed in the Weigh Scale brochure item code table.
  • Not this part: the Advantage QD1000 Q-Series and the Span Rexx QD2000. The Advantage runs its own bumper family, with a separate head end roller bumper kit and a separate side roller bumper kit. Watch this one carefully, because Savaria's 2026 pricelist gives Q6531 the wording "head end roller bumpers", and that same phrase is what the Advantage brochure attaches to the QD1000 part. The description matches; the bed does not. Match the code to the bed, not the words to the words.

The beds this belongs to are the Span Encore package, the Advantage ReadyWide MC7 range, and the Span Weigh Scale bed. The Span Advantage Q-Series and the Span Rexx take different parts. Call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number from the bed label if you are not sure which family your bed belongs to.

Measure before you order: published bed length excludes the bumper

This is the detail worth having before a room layout is signed off, and it comes straight from Span's own specification tables.

Span prints overall bed length as 82, 86 or 90 inches, and the line reads "with head and foot boards, excluding bumper". The bumper sits outside the published figure. If you are planning a wall to door run from the 90 inch number, anything at the head end is additional. And if the same bed is being taken to an 84 inch sleep surface with the four inch extender kit, the two additions stack: the frame grows and the bumper still sits proud of it.

Savaria does not publish a projection figure for this kit, so we cannot give you the number. What we can do is tell you the number you already have does not include it, which is more useful than a guess.

What the bed already has

Worth knowing before you order, because it is easy to buy a bumper twice.

Both Span owner manuals include an assembly step for a baseboard bumper: it is snapped on by its two wire end hooks over the head end leg cross tube, using a rubber mallet, and the manual asks you to note its orientation. The Encore brochure lists "Baseboard Bumper, Fixed Mattress Retainers and Vascular Foot Ratchet" among the bed's standard features. So a Span bed arrives with a bumper at the head end.

Q6531 is a separate item code in the same brochures. Savaria does not state whether the roller bumper kit adds to the baseboard bumper, replaces it, or fits a different position, so we will not tell you that it does any of those. If your bed is already in service, send us a photograph of the head end with the model and serial number and we will confirm what you have before anything ships.

Why these beds meet walls

These are mobile beds. Span rates the Encore and the ReadyWide for mobility at any height from 7-7/8 inches to 31 inches, on heavy duty 3 inch swivel casters with a directional lock hinge at the head end. Span's own moving procedure asks for two people, asks you to walk the perimeter first "to ensure that no accessories will fall or get damaged", and warns against rolling over high thresholds with a patient in the bed. On the Encore, the deck also retracts 12 inches, so the bed's relationship to the wall behind it changes while it is being used, not just while it is being moved. Head end protection on a bed like that is maintenance spending, not decoration.

Span head end roller bumper specifications

Savaria publishes the code, the description and the platforms. It does not publish a dimension, a projection, a material, a colour, a roller count or a weight for this kit, and we will not invent one. What follows is what Savaria states.

One thing worth keeping in mind on every Span accessory. Span states in both owner manuals that the safe working load includes the weight of accessories, options and bedding, not just the person in the bed. The Encore MC9 is rated at 600 lb (272 kg) safe working load with a maximum patient weight of 450 lb (204 kg). The Advantage ReadyWide MC7 Standard is rated at 500 lb (227 kg) safe working load with a maximum patient weight of 350 lb (159 kg), and the ReadyWide Plus is rated at 650 lb (295 kg). Every option you bolt on uses part of that allowance, so it is worth totalling the build rather than adding parts one at a time.

Ordering and fitting in Brampton and the GTA

This is a part for a bed that is already in service, so the useful question is who puts it on. Westin Healthcare's own technicians fit Span bed parts in homes and in facilities across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area, and we have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather talk it through in person. Orders travel by standard parcel or freight depending on the equipment, and White Glove Delivery is available for eligible products in Toronto and the GTA. The delivery method, any exclusions, and any charge are set out on the shipping policy and confirmed on your order before you commit. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page with the model and serial number from the bed label and we will confirm the part before anything ships.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on a Span bed or one of its accessories needs work, you call the shop that supplied it. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department and our own technicians come to the home or the workplace across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

Span manufacturer warranty

Span Medical Products Canada warrants all beds and bed accessories sold by Span to be free from defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use and service from the date of initial delivery. Bed accessories carry one year and parts subject to wear carry one year, which is the row this part sits in. Electrical components, meaning the control box and all actuators, carry five years. The frame carries fifteen years and all welds on steel structural components carry fifteen years. Labour for service is not part of the manufacturer warranty, and the warranty does not apply where a product has been abused, misused, improperly maintained, exposed to excessive loads, or altered without Span's approval. Span also states plainly that using replacement parts or accessories from other manufacturers will invalidate the warranty and could damage the bed, so a generic substitute is a false economy on a Span bed. We handle the claim with you.

The other Span accessory we already stock by its Savaria code is the Span Q6699 ergonomic transport dolly set, which is the part for getting these beds through narrow halls, and narrow halls are where head ends get damaged. If you are also lengthening the bed, see bed extension kits, and remember the two additions stack at opposite ends.

Frequently asked questions

What is the manufacturer code?

Q6531. Savaria prints it as "roller bumper" in the Encore brochure and product codes table, and as "honeycomb roller bumper kit" in the ReadyWide brochure, the Weigh Scale brochure and the Span long term care beds catalogue.

Does my Span bed already have a bumper?

It has a baseboard bumper. Both owner manuals describe snapping one over the head end leg cross tube during assembly, and the Encore brochure lists it among the bed's standard features. Whether the roller bumper kit adds to that, replaces it, or fits elsewhere is not something Savaria publishes, so send us a photograph of the head end and we will confirm what you have.

How far does it stick out?

Savaria does not publish a projection figure, so we do not quote one. What we can tell you is that the published overall bed length of 82, 86 or 90 inches already excludes the bumper, so plan for the frame length plus whatever is at the head end.

Is this the same as the QD1000 Advantage bumper?

No, and this is the one to watch. The Advantage QD1000 brochure carries head end roller bumpers under a different code, and Savaria's 2026 pricelist describes Q6531 with that same phrase. The words match, the beds do not. Order against the bed.

What does honeycomb mean here?

It is Savaria's own word for this kit in the ReadyWide, Weigh Scale and long term care item tables. Savaria does not describe the construction beyond the name, so neither do we.

How many are in an order line?

Savaria's wording varies between singular, kit and plural across its own documents, so we confirm the piece count with Savaria on every quote rather than assume it. Tell us how many bed ends you are protecting and we will get the line right.

What is the warranty?

One year. Span bed accessories and parts subject to wear both carry one year in the manufacturer's warranty table. Labour for service is not part of the manufacturer warranty.
