(0 review)

The Savaria M-Series Essential is the home and long-term care lithium-ion fixed ceiling-lift motor. Choose who it must lift (up to 286, 440, or 600 lb) and whether you walk the lift along the track or the motor drives itself. Description

The Savaria M-Series Essential is a lithium-ion fixed ceiling-lift motor for home, group home, and long-term care. Westin Healthcare is an official Savaria Patient Care dealer. We quote the motor, deliver it, and set it up in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The motor stays in the track. A strap lowers a 2-point or 4-point carry bar so a person can be transferred in a sling without a floor lift in the room.

Savaria places Essential as the home and long-term care tier of the M-Series fixed family. The same family has a Clinical motor with a digital display and a Bariatric motor for higher loads. Essential is offered in 286 lb (130 kg), 440 lb (200 kg), and 600 lb (272 kg). Use Lift setup on this page, then we confirm the track when we measure. For a lithium-ion motor you carry between rooms, see the Savaria Monarch portable lift. For a 450 lb Handicare A-Series motor, see the Handicare A450.

Who it is for

This motor is for a person who needs regular overhead transfers in rooms that can take a rated track, and who wants the simpler M-Series lithium-ion motor rather than the Clinical display package. Homes, group homes, and long-term care rooms use it when a track can be planned, or when an older track can take a retrofit motor after we check the rating. Pick the 286, 440, or 600 lb motor to match the person, not the highest number on the family sheet.

  • Home bedrooms and bathrooms that can take a rated track
  • Group homes and long-term care rooms that want a 3-year battery-included warranty
  • Sites that want lithium-ion charging without a digital handset menu

What you get and how it lifts

A fixed Essential motor stays in the track. The strap pays out, the carry bar comes down, loop slings hook onto Savaria's SureClip latch or a 4-point bull-horn bar, and the motor raises the person. Walk-along (2-function) means a caregiver guides the lift along the rail by hand. Power travel (4-function) adds left and right travel. Return to Charge sends the motor back to the charger when that option is on your setup. Savaria names FastTrack brackets for new installs, a no-fray antimicrobial strap path, and soft start and soft stop so the motor and strap take less wear.

The cabin has LED battery and charging lights plus up and down buttons as a backup if the handset is not in reach. Savaria lists emergency stop (the red cord), emergency lowering, and an emergency brake. The owner's manual describes manual lowering with the supplied 4 mm Allen key if the electrical system is not working. That is not the Clinical 3-Down function. Savaria states that M-Series motors can be configured onto track systems from major ceiling-lift manufacturers. The installed safe working load is still the lowest rating among motor, track, bar, and sling. Westin's own team handles delivery and setup through the delivery section below.

Savaria M-Series Essential specifications

These figures are for the Savaria M-Series Essential fixed motor. They come from Savaria's Essential brochure and the Essential owner's manual (part 001379-EN). They are not the Clinical or Bariatric sheets.

Savaria lists a safe working load of 286 lb (130 kg), 440 lb (200 kg), or 600 lb (272 kg); a lifting range of 231 cm (90.75 in); a case size of 33 x 30 x 18 cm (13 x 11.75 x 7 in); manual-traverse weight 6.3 kg (13.9 lb); power-traverse weight 8.3 kg (18.3 lb); lifting clearance 41 cm (16 in) with a manual 4-point bar and 36 cm (14 in) with a manual 2-point bar; a lithium-ion battery at 25.2 V 2500 mAh; about 2 hours to charge from empty (the Essential card also names a 30-minute quick charge); in-track constant charge as an option; lifting speeds from 5.5 cm/s unloaded down to 4.0 cm/s at 600 lb; a duty cycle of 1 minute continuous use (max 10%); noise at or under 54 dBA; lift ingress IP20 and handset IPx6; a 10-year product life; ISO 10535:2021 and CAN/CSA Z10535.1:15; and a 3-year warranty that includes the battery. Cycle counts of a 24 inch lift on one charge are 80 at 91 kg (200 lb), 70 at 130 kg, 45 at 200 kg, and 30 at 272 kg.

Do not read the portable Monarch's 11 lb case onto this fixed motor. Do not read Clinical 3-Down, Bluetooth, or the digital diagnostics menu onto Essential.

Lift setup

Answer two plain questions: how much weight the lift must handle, and whether you walk the lift along the track or the motor drives itself. Return-to-charger is offered on the power-travel choices that include it. Track brand adapters and continuous-charge rail details are confirmed when we measure, not on this list. A 286 lb power-travel Essential is not on the current dealer sell list we price from, so it is not a button here.

  • Up to 286 lb, you walk the lift along the track
  • Up to 440 lb, you walk the lift along the track
  • Up to 440 lb, the lift moves itself along the track
  • Up to 440 lb, the lift moves itself and returns to the charger
  • Up to 600 lb, you walk the lift along the track
  • Up to 600 lb, the lift moves itself along the track
  • Up to 600 lb, the lift moves itself and returns to the charger

For the Clinical digital display and 3-Down package, see the Savaria M-Series Clinical ceiling lift. For 800 to 1200 lb, see the Savaria M-Series Bariatric.

Slings, carry bar, and which products this fits

Savaria lists a 2-point carry bar with a SureClip latch for loop slings, a 4-point bull-horn bar, and a Quick Release System for swapping bars. An optional scale is OIML Class III (kg). Use slings Savaria approves for the bar on the motor, and never exceed the lowest SWL of the motor, track, bar, or sling. The Essential owner's manual names universal slings (with or without head support), hygiene slings, walking slings, disposable slings, and repositioning slings as the Savaria styles for this motor.

Shop Westin's matching sling styles: universal slings, full-body slings, toileting slings, and divided-leg slings. Sit-to-stand slings belong on sit-to-stand floor lifts, not on this overhead bar.

Related products we already sell: the Handicare C450 if you want a 450 lb C-Series motor, the Handicare A450 if you want the digital A-Series sibling, and the Savaria Monarch portable lift if you need to carry the motor between rooms. A freestanding rail for a portable motor is the Handicare FST-300. The FST-300 is a 300 lb gantry for a portable lift, not a mount for this fixed Essential motor.

Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up the Savaria M-Series Essential across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a ceiling lift first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased lifts are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Ceiling lifts are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the lift is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Can I rent a patient lift before I buy?

Yes. If you only need a lift for a recovery, or you want to live with a ceiling-lift setup before you buy, rent first. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub and the patient lift rentals page. Westin rents electric floor lifts and ceiling lift setups across Brampton and the GTA.

For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice.

If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the lift needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Savaria M-Series Essential warranty

Savaria prints a 3-year warranty, including the battery, on the M-Series Essential card and brochure. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does funding cover a ceiling lift in Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Other routes can help when the eligibility criteria fit, including ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship programs. Westin Healthcare works with those programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before anyone starts paperwork.

What is the safe working load of the M-Series Essential?

Savaria offers Essential in 286 lb (130 kg), 440 lb (200 kg), and 600 lb (272 kg). The installed system is limited by the lowest rating among the motor, track, carry bar, and sling. Ask us which motor is on your quote before you plan around 600 lb.

How is Essential different from M-Series Clinical?

Both are lithium-ion fixed motors in the same 286 / 440 / 600 lb family. Essential is the home and long-term care motor with LED cabin lights, a simple handset, SureClip, and FastTrack. Clinical adds a digital display, cycle analytics, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and Savaria's 3-Down emergency function. Start with Essential when you want the simpler M-Series motor.

How is a fixed Essential different from the Monarch portable lift?

The Essential motor stays in the track. The Monarch is the portable 11 lb M-Series motor you carry between rooms. They share lithium-ion cells and a 3-year Savaria warranty. They are not the same article.

What slings fit the M-Series Essential?

Loop slings on a 2-point SureClip bar or a 4-point bull-horn bar. QRS swaps bars. Use universal, full-body, toileting, or divided-leg slings rated for that bar. Do not put a sit-to-stand sling on this overhead motor.

Does the quote include the ceiling track?

No. A quote for this page is the Essential motor, hand control, and charger in the Lift setup you pick. Track, carry bar, and slings are planned with the room. Ask us for a layout before we book the install date.

What happens if the power goes out?

The motor runs on its lithium-ion battery, so a house-power cut does not drop the person. Savaria names emergency stop, emergency lowering, and an emergency brake. The owner's manual uses a 4 mm Allen key for manual lowering if the electrical system is not working. Keep the battery charged. Those features are for getting a person down safely.

Can the Essential go on an existing track?

Savaria states that M-Series motors can be configured onto systems from major ceiling-lift manufacturers, and names FastTrack brackets for new installs. We still check the track rating and hardware before we quote a motor-only swap.

Can I rent a lift before I buy this motor?

Yes. Westin rents electric floor lifts and ceiling lift setups. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program.

How fast can a purchased Essential be set up in the GTA?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased lifts across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service, not automatically to a purchased install.

What is the warranty on the M-Series Essential?

Savaria prints 3 years, including the battery, on the current Essential card and brochure. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work. Details are on our service and repairs page.
