Description

The Handicare C450 is a compact fixed ceiling-lift motor with a 450 lb (204.5 kg) safe working load. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes and care rooms in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The motor stays on a ceiling track. A strap lowers a carry bar so a person can be transferred in a sling without a floor lift rolling through the room.

Handicare (now Savaria Patient Care) lists the C450 with a pneumatic hand control, on-board controls, a digital display, emergency stop, emergency power lowering, and emergency manual raising or lowering. The same C-Series family includes the higher-capacity Handicare C625. If you want a newer digital A-Series motor on a similar 450 lb rating, see the Handicare A450.

Who it is for

This motor is for a person who needs regular transfers in one or two rooms and has a ceiling that can take a rated track. Families usually call when a floor lift is hard to store, when bathroom transfers need a clear floor, or when a therapist has asked for an overhead lift. The C450 is the 450 lb C-Series motor. If the person is near or over that limit, start with the C625 instead of stretching this motor.

  • Home bedrooms and bathrooms where a track can be planned
  • Long-term care or clinic rooms that already use Handicare or Prism track
  • Anyone who needs a 450 lb overhead motor with a simple pneumatic hand control

How it lifts

A fixed ceiling lift is a motor that stays in the track. You do not carry the motor from room to room. The strap pays out, the carry bar comes down, loop slings hook onto the carry bar, and the motor raises the person. On a manual-traverse C450 you walk the carry bar along the track by hand. Power Traverse and Power XY add motors that move the lift along the rail. Return to Charge (RTC) sends the motor back to the charger end stop after a transfer.

Handicare's C-Series user manual states that the lift, track, accessories, and sling are certified to a maximum load, and you must not exceed the lowest rated part. Installation of the track is structural work. Handicare says the charger sits outside the patient vicinity, and the lift and charger are not waterproof even though the hand control is. Westin's own team handles delivery and setup through the delivery section below.

Handicare C450 specifications

These figures are for the Handicare C-450 motor. Westin's listing SKU is 323400. The Style selector uses the official C-Series codes: 323100 Manual Traverse, 323150 Power Traverse, 323149 Power Traverse w/ RTC, and 323177 Power XY.

The C-Series user manual lists a 450 lb / 204.5 kg safe working load for the C-450, a lifting range up to 96 inches (2438 mm), a unit weight of 21 to 23.5 lb (9.5 to 10.65 kg), a 1 minute on / 9 minutes off duty cycle, and a service life of 22,500 cycles or 10 years, whichever comes first. Handicare also prints a 7.5 ft (2.2 m) strap travel so a person can be lifted from the floor when the room layout allows it. Rated performance after break-in is 50 to 60 lifts of 24 inches at 450 lb on a full charge. Batteries are 24 VDC (two 12 V sealed lead-acid cells, 5.0 Ah). The charger is 100-240 VAC, 1.5 A in and 24 VDC, 1.0 A out. The main unit is IP22. The lifting strap should be replaced every 5,000 cycles or 3 years, whichever comes first.

Use Style to pick how the motor travels:

  • Manual Traverse
  • Power Traverse
  • Power Traverse w/ RTC
  • Power XY

Slings and spreader bar

The C450 uses a carry bar with hooks. Handicare's user manual shows loop sling straps placed onto those hooks, one side of the sling to the matching side of the bar. An older C-Series carry bar (part 360760) is named in that manual. This is a loop attachment, not a clip sit-to-stand bar. Use slings the manufacturer approves for this carry bar, and never exceed the lowest SWL of the motor, track, bar, or sling.

Shop Westin's matching sling styles: universal slings, full-body slings, toileting slings, and divided-leg slings. Sit-to-stand slings belong on sit-to-stand floor lifts, not on this overhead bar. If you need a floor lift instead of a ceiling install, see the Hoyer Advance electric patient lift.

Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this ceiling lift across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a ceiling lift first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased lifts are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Ceiling lifts are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the lift is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Can I rent a patient lift before I buy?

Yes. If you only need a lift for a recovery, or you want to live with a ceiling-lift setup before you buy, rent first. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub and the patient lift rentals page. Westin rents electric floor lifts and ceiling lift setups across Brampton and the GTA.

For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice.

If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.

Service, repairs, and warranty

When something on the lift needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Handicare C-Series warranty

The Handicare C-450 / C-625 user manual states that new equipment is guaranteed against failure for 1 year from the date of installation or 18 months from the date of manufacture. Unauthorized service voids that warranty. Water on the motor or charger is not covered. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Does funding cover a ceiling lift in Ontario?

Funding routes exist for patient lifts in Ontario, and eligibility depends on the person and the assessment. Westin Healthcare works with those programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before anyone starts paperwork.

What is the safe working load of the Handicare C450?

Handicare lists 450 lb (204.5 kg) for the C-450 motor. The installed system is limited by the lowest rating among the motor, track, carry bar, and sling. If the person is near that limit, ask about the C625.

How is a fixed ceiling lift different from a floor lift?

The C450 motor stays in a ceiling track, so the floor stays clear. A floor lift such as the Hoyer Advance rolls on a wheeled base. Choose the C450 when a track can be planned. Choose a floor lift when you need a unit that can move from house to house without a track.

Can one caregiver operate the C450?

Savaria Patient Care's C-450 page states that the C-450 can be operated by a single caregiver. Handicare's user manual still requires the sling, track, and hooks to be checked before every lift. Training with the install is part of a safe first use.

What slings fit the C450?

Loop slings that match the carry-bar hooks. Handicare's manual shows the straps seated fully on the hooks before you raise the bar. Use universal, full-body, toileting, or divided-leg slings rated for this bar. Do not put a sit-to-stand sling on this overhead motor.

Does the C450 include the ceiling track?

The page price is for the motor in the traverse style you pick. Track, carry bar, and slings are planned with the room. Ask us for a layout before we book the install date.

What happens if the power goes out?

Handicare lists emergency power lowering on the lift and emergency manual raising or lowering. There is also an emergency stop. Those features are for getting a person down safely, not for everyday use without a charged battery.

How is the C450 different from the A450?

Both are 450 lb fixed motors. The C450 uses a pneumatic hand control and the C-Series case. The A450 adds a digital waterproof hand control, an antimicrobial strap, a 15 degree tilt, and Handicare's Quick Release System for swapping carry bars. Start with the C450 if you want the simpler C-Series motor.

Can I rent a lift before I buy this motor?

Yes. Westin rents electric floor lifts and ceiling lift setups. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program.

How fast can a purchased C450 be set up in the GTA?

Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased lifts across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service, not automatically to a purchased install.

What is the warranty on the C450?

The Handicare C-Series user manual prints 1 year from installation or 18 months from manufacture for new equipment. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work. Details are on our service and repairs page.
