Description
The Handicare Positioning Sling is a full-body sheet for turning in bed, boosting higher in bed, and a horizontal transfer while the person stays on their back. Handicare North America makes it. Savaria Patient Care lists it. Colour-coded loop straps hook to a two-point spreader bar on a mobile lift or an overhead lift. Westin Healthcare quotes it and fits it in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.
This is the Handicare 5078xx family, with spacer 9Y4901 and a disposable 547810 case option. It is not the Medcare Repositioning Sling. Medcare is a different 8-point leave-under sheet. That listing is on the Medcare Repositioning Sling page. It is also not the Silvalea In-Situ mattress sheet. That listing is on the In-Situ Repositioning Sheet page. A Human Care sling with the same job name is a different brand on the Human Care Positioning Sling page. If the person sits for the transfer, start with the Handicare Universal Sling.
Who this sling is for
This sling is for a person who needs help to turn, boost, or move sideways while lying down, when the care plan calls for a hoistable sheet rather than a seated sling. It keeps the person supine and does not flex the hips. It is used in home care, long-term care, and acute care. It is not a sit-to-stand sling.
- In-bed turning, boosting higher in bed, and lateral supine transfers on a two-point loop bar
- Homes and care rooms that want the sheet to stay under the linen between lifts, after a skin assessment
- An 800 lb or 1,000 lb rating by size, when the lift and the bar can match that load
What you get
You get one sheet in the model on the quote: mesh, poly, spacer with elastic corners, or disposable. Mesh is an open-weave polyester blend with an antimicrobial coating. Poly is a closed-weave polyester, also with an antimicrobial coating. The 36 x 51 in poly sheet is cut in a U-shape for toileting access. Spacer fabric stretches in more than one direction and has elastic corners to help it stay on the mattress. Disposable sheets are liquid-repellent non-woven polyester and ship as a case of 10 for one person.
The sling is a loop sling. Colour-coded loops let you keep the person level. It does not use clip studs or a Human Care E-clip / mushroom bar.

Handicare Positioning Sling specifications
These figures are for the Handicare 5078xx / 9Y4901 / 547810 family. The specification tab holds the stored values.
Safe working load is 800 lb (363 kg) on the 36 x 51, 36 x 70, and 42 x 78 poly and mesh sheets, and 1,000 lb (454 kg) on the 56 x 78 poly and mesh sheets, the spacer, and the disposable family. The finished system is limited by the lowest rating among the lift, the carry bar, and the sling. Durable mesh and poly wash at 80 C (176 F) in a laundry bag. Spacer follows the same wash. Disposable sheets are not washed. Durable polyester is made to last up to 4 years depending on use, care, and laundering. Inspect the sheet and take it out of service if it is torn or the label cannot be read.
Attachment and compatible lifts
The Positioning Sling is a loop sling for a two-point spreader bar on a mobile lift or an overhead lift. Colour-coded loops go on Handicare loop carry bars. The bar may sit lengthwise along the person or widthwise across the person. Use the same colour on the left and right for a level lift. Put the head-to-knee straps on the bar every time. The straps below the knee can stay off when a caregiver is managing the legs. For a turn, hook only the straps on the side you are rolling away from.
Do not put these loops on a clip bar, a stud bar, or a Human Care E-clip / mushroom bar. If the bar is an E-clip, see the Human Care Full Body Sling E-clip instead.
On our floor, Handicare loop carry-bar hooks sit on the Handicare C450, the Handicare C625, and the Handicare A450, and on the two-point SlingBar of the Handicare Carina 350. Confirm the bar type before the first lift. A 450 lb motor limits the system to 450 lb even though the sling may be 800 lb or 1,000 lb. A Carina 350 limits the system to 350 lb. A C625 limits the system to 625 lb.
Shop related styles in full-body slings and specialty slings. For a seated loop sling, stay with the Universal. For the Medcare 8-point leave-under sheet, stay with the Medcare Repositioning Sling. For the Silvalea mattress sheet with elastic corners, stay with the In-Situ Repositioning Sheet.
Care and laundering
Durable mesh, poly, and spacer: put the sling in a laundry bag, then wash at 80 C (176 F). Inspect loops, seams, fabric, and the label after every wash. Take the sling out of service if anything is worn, frayed, or torn, or if the label cannot be read. Best practice is to leave a durable or spacer sheet under the person with a flat sheet between the person and the sling. Assess skin regularly.
Disposable: use it for one person. Do not wash it. Replace the sheet when it is soiled. An incontinent pad can sit between the person and the sheet if needed.
Delivery in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team can deliver this sling across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area, on its own or with a Handicare lift setup. We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a sling first. For a scheduled drop-off or a fitting, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works.
This is a small carton. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods can apply when it ships without a lift. If it travels with a patient lift, the lift is oversized and White-Glove Delivery is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Warranty
When something on the sling needs work, you call the shop that sold it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department.

Frequently asked questions
What model is this?
It is the Handicare Positioning Sling listed by Savaria Patient Care. The usual adult mesh sheet is 507810. The family also includes poly, spacer 9Y4901, and disposable case articles.
Is this a loop sling or an E-clip sling?
Loop. Colour-coded loops go on a two-point loop carry bar. It does not use clip studs or Human Care mushroom E-clips.
What is the safe working load?
800 lb (363 kg) on the 36 x 51, 36 x 70, and 42 x 78 poly and mesh sheets. 1,000 lb (454 kg) on the 56 x 78 poly and mesh sheets, the spacer, and the disposable family. The finished system is limited by the lowest rating among the lift, the bar, and the sling.
Which size should I order?
Mesh 507810 is the usual 36 x 70 in adult sheet. Wider 56 x 78 in sheets and the spacer are the 1,000 lb rows. Confirm with a clinician or our staff before first use. We will match the selector to one manufacturer article.
Can the sling stay on the bed?
Yes, after a skin assessment. Best practice is to leave it under the person with a flat sheet between the person and a durable or spacer sling. Spacer 9Y4901 has elastic corners to help it stay on the mattress. Disposable sheets can stay under one person with an incontinent pad if needed.
Is this the Medcare Repositioning Sling?
No. Medcare is a different 8-point leave-under sheet in 402500, 402503, and 600210. That listing is on the Medcare Repositioning Sling page. This page is the Handicare 5078xx two-point sheet.
How is this different from the In-Situ sheet or a sheet-style sling?
The In-Situ Repositioning Sheet is a Silvalea mattress sheet with elastic corners in Large and Extra Large. That listing is on the In-Situ Repositioning Sheet page. The sheet-style sling is a Silvalea side-lying log-roll sheet with extra head-support tapes. This page is the Handicare full-body horizontal sheet for a two-point bar.
Is this the Human Care Positioning Sling?
No. Human Care is a different manufacturer with NSB article codes. That listing is on the Human Care Positioning Sling page. This page is Handicare 507810 and its fabric siblings.
Does it fit a C450, A450, C625, or Carina 350?
Those Handicare motors use loop carry-bar hooks, which is the attachment class this sling is built with. Confirm the bar on your motor and stay inside the lowest working load. A 450 lb motor is the limit on the C450 and A450. A Carina 350 is a 350 lb limit. A C625 is a 625 lb limit.
How do I wash it?
Durable mesh, poly, and spacer: laundry bag, 80 C (176 F). Disposable: do not wash. Follow the label on the sheet you receive.
What is included with a disposable order?
A case of 10 single-patient sheets in the size on the quote. They are not washed. Replace a sheet when it is soiled.
Does funding cover a sling in Ontario?
Slings follow the funding path of the lift they are used with. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check the lift and the sheet together.
