Description

The Handicare Bure Drip Rod, Complete with Attachment is Direct Healthcare Group's intravenous pole and mounting holder for the Bure walker range, manufacturer code 56-338. The pole rides on the walker, so a patient on a line can be walked without a second person shadowing them with a stand. Westin Healthcare ships it across Canada and fits it on a service visit across Brampton and the GTA.

This code is the complete set, the rod and the holder together. The holder on its own is a separate code, 56-335-3, which is what you want if you already have a pole and only need another mounting point.

Why a walker needs its own carrier

Early mobilization is where this matters. The whole point of getting somebody onto their feet on day two after surgery is that walking is the treatment, and the thing that most often stops it is not the patient. It is the logistics: somebody has to carry the cylinder, somebody has to walk the pole, and suddenly a two-minute walk needs three staff and gets postponed to a shift when three staff are free.

Mounting the equipment on the walker collapses that back to one caregiver and one machine. It also removes the worst of the risk, which is a line or a tube being carried at a different pace from the person it is attached to.

Which walker it fits

The drip rod is one of the accessories the manufacturer lists against the whole Bure range, the Bure XL included.

Direct Healthcare Group does not publish a height range, a hook count or a load rating for the drip rod, so none is printed here. If a specific pole height or a number of hooks matters for your protocol, tell us and we will get the answer from Savaria in writing before we ship.

Before the first walk with a line on board

The manufacturer's accessory precaution applies to the drip rod as it does to everything else on the frame: verify that any accessory that might be used is properly attached to the device before use. A loaded pole is top-heavy, so check the holder every time.

Two more from the manual worth carrying into practice. Low speed is recommended when moving with the walker, and thresholds should be approached slowly with the coming threshold communicated to the user. A pump and a line on the frame make both of those more important, not less.

Cleaning and care

Direct Healthcare Group gives one cleaning routine for the walker and everything mounted on it. Wipe the parts the user touches after every use with a mild soap solution or a surface disinfectant, and clean the whole walker weekly with a cloth and warm water or a soap solution, or more often if it is in heavy use. Dry it thoroughly afterwards. The product is not corrosion proof.

Where disinfection is needed the manufacturer specifies 70 percent ethanol, 45 percent isopropanol or similar. Do not steam clean, because of the risk of corrosion, and do not use cleaning agents containing phenol or chlorine, which can damage the materials.

Related parts and walkers

The walkers Westin sells in this range are the Bure Rise & Go DB, the power rise walker with electric frame widening, the Bure Double 2.0 and the Bure XL. All three sit with the rest of our transfer equipment on the patient lifts hub.

The rest of the Bure accessory range we list: the short transfer plate and the long transfer plate with castors for patient transits, the lower leg support for the shins, the side support, the oxygen holder and the drip rod. Harnesses are the Rise & Go Belt MULTI and the standard gait training kit.

Other spare parts and hardware sit on the lift parts shelf. Walking aids of every other kind are on the walking aids page.

Warranty and inspection

Direct Healthcare Group states in the Bure instructions for use that the warranty applies only if repairs or alterations are made by personnel authorized by Direct Healthcare Group, and that repairs and maintenance may only be done by authorized personnel using original spare parts. No year count is printed in the manual, so ask us for the current terms that ship with your serial number and we will handle a claim with you.

The manufacturer also requires the walker to undergo a thorough inspection at least once every twelve months, performed by authorized personnel and in accordance with Direct Healthcare Group's instructions. Accessories are part of that inspection: the manual tells you to verify that any accessory fitted to the walker is properly attached before use, and to test it against the user's needs and functional ability. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department and our technicians come to the home or the facility.

Frequently asked questions

What part number should I order?

56-338 for the complete set, rod and holder. If you only need the mounting holder, that is 56-335-3.

Which walkers does it fit?

Every current Bure walker: Bure Standard, Bure S, Bure Low, Bure Low S, Bure Space, Bure Double 2.0, Bure XL, Bure Rise & Go and Bure Rise & Go DB.

How tall is the pole and how many hooks does it have?

Direct Healthcare Group does not publish either figure, so we will not print one. Ask us and we will get it from Savaria in writing before you order.

Is this the same as the oxygen holder?

No. The oxygen holder, 56-336-4, carries a cylinder. This carries an intravenous line. Many users need both, and each mounts separately on the frame.

Can I fit it myself?

It mounts on the frame with its holder. If you would rather have it done properly the first time, ask us to bring it on a service visit and our technician will fit it and check it loaded.

Is it safe to walk somebody with a drip on the walker?

That is what it is for, with the manufacturer's cautions: check the accessory is properly attached before use, keep the speed low, and approach thresholds slowly while telling the user they are coming.

Can I put a pump on it?

The manufacturer publishes no load rating for the rod, so we cannot tell you a safe pump weight. Ask us before you hang anything heavier than a bag on it.

How do I clean it?

Warm water or a mild soap solution, dried thoroughly. Disinfect with 70 percent ethanol or 45 percent isopropanol. No steam, and nothing containing phenol or chlorine.

Does it fold or come off for storage?

It is removable from its holder. The holder stays on the walker, so the pole can be taken off when the user no longer needs it.
