Description

The Quantum TRU-Balance 4 Power Positioning System is the current generation of Quantum Rehab power seating: power posterior tilt, power recline, power anterior tilt and a dual-actuator articulating foot platform, all driven from the chair's control and configurable into memory positions. Westin Healthcare configures it on a qualifying Quantum base to an ADP-registered therapist's prescription and delivers across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

This page is for the TRU-Balance 4 seating system, priced by quote because it is ordered as part of a power wheelchair build. The base, the seating and the electronics land on one order form, and the quote covers the whole prescription.

What TRU-Balance 4 does

Power positioning changes pressure distribution and posture throughout the day without anyone lifting the rider out of the chair. On TRU-Balance 4, Quantum publishes a posterior tilt range of 0 to 49 degrees, a recline range of 85 to 165 degrees, and anterior tilt configurable in 0 to 10, 0 to 20 or 0 to 30 degree ranges. Anterior tilt tips the seat forward for transfers and standing training; posterior tilt and recline unload the ischials and sacrum for pressure management.

The system stores up to eight customizable memory seating positions. Positional feedback recognizes where every actuator sits and recalls the saved combination, with the choice of sequential or synced movement between functions, so a therapist's prescribed pressure-relief position comes back exactly, every time, from one button.

The dual-actuator articulating foot platform articulates through 0 to 7.25 inches and elevates through 85 to 165 degrees, and it lowers to assist with transfers. Chest bar and knee blocks are available, and they are required with the 20 or 30 degree anterior tilt configurations.

  • Posterior tilt 0 to 49 degrees, for pressure relief and resting posture
  • Recline 85 to 165 degrees, to open the seat angle without shear
  • Anterior tilt up to 30 degrees, configured to 10, 20 or 30
  • Up to 8 memory positions, recalled exactly from the drive control
  • Dual-actuator articulating foot platform, lowers for transfers

Optional Accu-Trac advanced tracking technology manages the seat geometry through the recline arc, and a WC19 crash-test approved occupied transit kit is available for riders who travel in a adapted vehicle while seated.

Which chairs it fits

Quantum lists TRU-Balance 4 on the Edge 3 Stretto, the Edge 3 and the 4Front 2. Seating sizes run from 16 by 14 inches up to 22 by 22 inches. On the same order forms, the iLevel seat lift can combine with the seating on qualifying bases, and the therapist's assessment decides which functions the prescription carries.

For heavier riders, the Edge HD family carries TRU-Balance 3 HD seating at 450 lbs, and the Quantum 1450 base carries the bariatric power tilt at 600 lbs. If the rider needs a mid-wheel 300 lb base, TRU-Balance 4 on the Edge 3 is the current configuration to assess.

Driving limits in tilt

Quantum publishes the drive-speed envelope for anterior tilt, and it is worth reading before anyone plans a route: up to 10 degrees of anterior tilt at up to full lift drives at 2 mph; between 10 and 20 degrees the chair drives at 0.5 mph up to 6 inches of lift; beyond 20 degrees, or above 6 inches of lift between 10 and 20 degrees, the drive locks out. The chair enforces these limits itself, which is the safety story the therapist briefs the rider on.

Weight ratings belong to the host base, not the seating, so this table carries none: the Edge 3 family runs 300 lbs and the assessment pairs the rider with the right base.

Funding through ADP

Power seating follows the chair through the Assistive Devices Program. The ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist writes the positioning into the assessment, the authorizer names it on the form, and ADP can fund 75 percent of the approved price for eligible clients. We build the quote to that prescription, so funding paperwork and configuration happen together.

Related products

The host chairs are the Quantum Edge 3 and its Stretto sibling, with the iLevel seat lift on the same forms. For bariatric prescriptions there is the 600 lb TRU-Balance bariatric power tilt on the Quantum 1450. Seating completes with back supports such as the Tarta Original family and the TRU-Comfort 2 back cushion. Every Quantum power chair we list is on the standard power wheelchair shelf.

Delivery in Brampton and the GTA

The seating ships built into the chair. Our technicians deliver across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area, set every actuator to the prescription, program the memory positions with the therapist's targets, and walk the rider and caregivers through the tilt, recline and transfer sequences before they leave. Frequently asked questions

What is anterior tilt for?

Tipping the seat forward. It helps with standing pivots and transfer preparation, and it can support feeding posture at a table. Quantum configures it in 10, 20 or 30 degree ranges, and the 20 and 30 degree configurations require the chest bar and knee blocks for rider retention.

How far does it tilt back?

Posterior tilt runs 0 to 49 degrees and recline runs 85 to 165 degrees. The therapist prescribes the ranges that serve pressure management and posture, and the chair enforces the safe envelope.

What are memory seating positions?

Saved combinations of every actuator: tilt, recline and foot platform together. TRU-Balance 4 stores up to eight, recalls them using positional feedback, and can move the functions one after another or synced, so a prescribed pressure-relief posture repeats exactly.

Can you drive the chair while tilted?

In posterior tilt within the chair's limits, and in anterior tilt within a published envelope: up to 10 degrees of anterior tilt at up to full lift drives at 2 mph, 10 to 20 degrees at 0.5 mph up to 6 inches of lift, and beyond those points the drive locks out automatically.

Which bases take TRU-Balance 4?

The Edge 3 Stretto, Edge 3 and 4Front 2. Seating sizes run 16 by 14 up to 22 by 22 inches. Heavier riders move to the Edge HD with TRU-Balance 3 HD seating at 450 lbs, or the Quantum 1450 with the bariatric power tilt at 600 lbs.

Does it work with iLevel seat elevation?

On the qualifying bases the same order form can carry both, and TRU-Balance 4's own drive-speed rules in tilt already account for lift. The assessment decides which functions the prescription includes and how they interact for the rider.

Is there a transit option?

Yes. A WC19 crash-test approved occupied transit kit is an option on TRU-Balance 4, for riders who travel seated in an adapted vehicle. Order it on the initial build if vehicle travel is part of the plan.

Why is this page quote only?

Because the seating is one line of a chair prescription. The base, electronics, seating and any lift land on one Quantum order form, and a stand-alone price on the seating alone would misrepresent what the rider actually buys.
