Description

The Motion Composites MOVE is a Category 2 folding aluminum wheelchair, ADP device WM0001196. Westin Healthcare builds it in Brampton for homes across the Greater Toronto Area after an ADP-registered therapist assessment. The chair is configured to that assessment. It is not an off-the-shelf cart item for next-day delivery.

Motion Composites' current page lists a 265 lb rating (350 lb with the HD kit), a 16.1 lb transport weight, and a 26.4 lb lightest functional weight on a 16 by 16 inch chair. Seat width runs 14 to 22 inches. Seat depth runs 16 to 20 inches. This is a self-propel chair with large rear wheels and pushrims. A companion can also push from the handles. Motion Composites builds the chair in Canada.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who needs a long-term lightweight folding manual wheelchair in the ADP Category 2 band, and whose therapist names the MOVE after an assessment. Families usually call us when they need a folding aluminum frame that is light to lift, with a wide seat-size range and a seat-to-floor height from 12.5 inches.

If you want another current Category 2 folder, see the Quickie QX or the Maple Leaf NRG Plus Gold. If the therapist is looking at a more adjustable Motion Composites folder, that is the HELIO A6, not this MOVE. A transport chair with small rear wheels is a different product.

Design and build

The MOVE uses a 6061 aluminum unibody frame and an ultrarigid folding system with an oversized pivot. The same hybrid frame covers hemi and standard seat-to-floor heights. Composite armrests convert from flip-back to single post without tools. Casters have an anti-flutter screw. Push handles are integrated into the back canes.

The vertical axle plate offers two centre-of-gravity positions, both in front of the back post. That is enough for everyday setup. It is not a Category 3 centre-of-gravity range. Rear wheels run 20 to 26 inches. Casters run 4 to 8 inches. Newton spoke wheels and a set of frame colours, including Black, Burgundy, Charcoal, Sapphire Blue, Fuchsia, Steel Blue, Ferrari Red, Acid Green, and Sunkissed Orange, sit on the official colour chips.

Colour, width, and depth

The MOVE is built to the assessment. Westin sets Color, Width, and Depth from the therapist's measurements and the current Ontario order form. Official widths are 14 to 22 inches. Official depths are 16, 18, and 20 inches. Do not treat the 9.3 kg weight figure as a size to choose. It is a leftover number, not a factory option.

This model is a standard self-propel wheelchair. Transport chairs use small rear wheels and are companion-pushed only.

ADP funding for a Category 2 wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Once the chair is built to the assessment, Westin's own team delivers it across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, unfold it, and show you the brakes, the fold, the anti-flutter casters, and the footrests before we leave.

You are welcome to visit our Brampton showroom, or Mobility Specialties, our partner store in Etobicoke, if you would rather see a Category 2 chair first. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date after they are built.

Frequently asked questions

What does Category 2 mean on the MOVE?

Category 2 is the Ontario ADP lightweight manual band: a folding chair in the 25 to 38 lb range with swing-away footrests and removable arms. The MOVE's 26.4 lb functional weight sits in that band. The Ministry files it as WM0001196 on the Adult Lightweight Standard list. It is a folding chair, so it is not Category 4 (rigid ultralight).

Is the MOVE lighter than Category 2?

The 16.1 lb figure is a transport weight without rear wheels, arms, and footrests. The lightest functional chair on the current official page is 26.4 lb, which is inside the Category 2 range. Use 26.4 lb when you talk about the chair you sit in, and 16.1 lb when you talk about a stripped lift.

Who qualifies for ADP on this chair?

You must be an Ontario resident with a valid health card and a disability that needs the device for 6 months or longer. An ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist has to assess you before the chair is ordered. We cannot promise that a specific person will be approved.

How does the 75 / 25 split work?

For an eligible client, the ADP-registered vendor bills ADP 75% of the approved price and the client pays the remaining 25%, plus any extras that are not on the ADP list. People on Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD can be covered at 100% of the approved price.

What is the assessment process?

An ADP-registered OT or PT measures the person, names the category and the device, and completes the clinical part of the application. Westin helps finish the form and submits it. Do not buy the chair first. A device ordered before those steps is not reimbursed.

How long does ADP take?

Ontario aims to review a mobility-aid application within 8 weeks of receiving it. Motion Composites then builds the chair to the approved form. We will give you a delivery date once the chair is released.

Can I try a MOVE before the order is placed?

Come into a Brampton or Toronto store and we will show you a Category 2 folding chair so you can feel the fold, the brakes, and the seat width. A floor chair may not match the final colour or size. A therapist may also trial equipment during the assessment.

How should the seat width fit?

Measure the seated hip width and leave a little room on each side. Motion Composites lists 14 to 22 inches wide and 16, 18, or 20 inches deep. Those numbers come from the assessment. Ignore leftover 15 / 16 / 17 inch-only rows if they still appear on an old spec line.

What is the weight capacity?

Motion Composites lists 265 lb, or 350 lb with the HD kit. Stay at or under the rating on the approved form. Ignore a leftover 275 lb figure.

Will the MOVE fold into a car?

Yes, the frame folds. The official transport weight is 16.1 lb without rear wheels, arms, and footrests. Come into a store if you want to try the fold on your vehicle.

What happens if ADP declines the application?

Ontario sends a letter with the reason and the appeal steps. Westin will sit down with you, look at the letter, and talk through an appeal, a different category, or a non-ADP route. We do not order the custom chair until the path is clear.

What is the warranty on the MOVE?

Five years on the aluminum frame and cross-brace for the first user, one year on Motion Composites-made components, and 30 days on tires and tubes. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.
