Description

The Motion Composites Helio A6 is a Category 3 folding aluminum wheelchair built to a prescription. Westin Healthcare configures it in Brampton for homes across the Greater Toronto Area. It is an ADP-eligible Category 3 device. An assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist comes first. ADP can fund 75% of the approved price for eligible clients. Ontario Works, ODSP, and ACSD clients may be funded at 100% of that approved price. Westin and the authorizer then complete the Motion Composites Ontario order form. The chair is not a boxed, off-the-shelf cart item.

Motion Composites' current Helio A6 card lists a 6061 aluminum folding frame, a 265 lb user weight (350 lb with the HD kit), seat widths 14 to 22 inches, and seat depths 14 to 20 inches. The same card lists a 16x16 transport weight of 15.1 lb without rear wheels, armrests, cushion, anti-tippers, and footrests, and a lightest functional configuration of 25.4 lb. The vertical axle plate sets centre of gravity. Quick-release axles and anti-tippers are written on the order when the authorizer asks for them.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who will self-propel an ultralight folding frame, who fits a 14 to 22 inch seat, and who needs Category 3 adjustability (centre of gravity, quick-release wheels, anti-tippers) rather than a fixed economy chair. Families usually call us when a standard 25 to 38 lb depot chair is too heavy to lift into a car, or when the therapist wants a folding Helio instead of a rigid Category 4 frame.

If the authorizer wants the 7000-series aluminum Helio with a wider centre-of-gravity range, see the Helio A7. If they want Motion Composites' T700 carbon folding frame, see the Helio C2.

  • ADP Category 3 folding ultralight, prescription-built
  • Self-propel use on a 6061 aluminum Helio frame
  • Seat 14 to 22 inches wide, 14 to 20 inches deep, 265 lb rating (350 lb HD)

Design and build

The A6 is a folding unibody frame in 6061 aluminum with a symmetrical hydroformed cross brace. Motion Composites calls the fold the Ultrarigid Folding System: oversized pivot axles and tight tolerances so the chair folds for a car without becoming a loose X-frame on the push. Hybrid geometry covers hemi through standard seat-to-floor heights on one frame.

Rear wheels mount on a vertical axle plate so the therapist can set centre of gravity. Casters use an anti-flutter screw. Armrests are removable. Hangers are chosen on the order (60, 70, 80, or 90 degree). Optional anti-tippers and WC-19 transit hardware are order-form lines, not guesses.

  • Folding 6061 aluminum unibody
  • Centre-of-gravity axle plate
  • Anti-flutter casters
  • Removable armrests and specified hangers
  • Optional quick-release axles and anti-tippers

Helio A6 specifications

These figures are for Westin SKU WM0001489, the Ontario device code Motion Composites still prints on the June 2026 Helio A6 Ontario order form. The specification tab holds the stored values. Use the current Motion Composites Helio A6 product page, not older 18.9 lb or 14 to 20 inch width lines if those still appear.

Seat 14 to 22 inches wide (21 and 22 inch with the HD kit) by 14 to 20 inches deep. Front seat to floor 12 to 20.5 inches. Rear seat to floor 12 to 20.25 inches. Back 12 to 24 inches. Armrest height 6 to 14 inches. Camber 0, 3, or 6 degrees. Centre of gravity 3/4 to 2 3/4 inches. Overall width 20.75 to 33.5 inches. User weight 265 lb, or 350 lb with the HD kit.

Canada warranty for this aluminum chair, first user: 5 years on the aluminum frame and aluminum cross-brace, 1 year on Motion Composites-made components, 30 days on listed wear items (tires, tubes, cushions, slings, upholstery, armrests, push-handle grips). Lifetime frame language belongs on the carbon Helios, not on the A6.

Colour, seat width, and seat depth

Frame colour, seat width, and seat depth are written on the Helio A6 Ontario order form with Westin and the ADP authorizer. They are prescription choices, not a same-day boxed size run.

  • Color: the Motion Composites frame finish on the order (Black, White, Burgundy, Black Cherry, Charcoal, Sapphire Blue, Monster Green, Fuchsia, Steel Blue, Ferrari Red, Acid Green, Electric Purple, Caribbean Blue, Pink Pearl, Plum Purple, Sky Blue, Khaki Green matte, Desert Sand matte, Sunkissed Orange)
  • Seat Width: 14 to 22 inches in 1 inch steps (21 and 22 inch with HD)
  • Seat Depth: 14 to 20 inches in 1 inch steps

Hanger angle, armrest style, rear wheel size, camber, centre of gravity, HD kit, transit, and anti-tippers are also set on that order form. Come in with the authorizer's measurements. Do not buy this chair before ADP approval if you need the program to pay its share.

ADP funding for a Category 3 wheelchair in Ontario

This chair is an ADP-eligible category device. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) pays 75% of the approved price for eligible clients, and clients receiving Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD support can be covered for the full cost. The route starts with an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, who confirms the need and the right category before anything is ordered: a chair bought before approval is not reimbursed. Westin Healthcare works with ADP authorizers and submissions every week, configures the chair to the prescription, and walks you through the paperwork. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to start the conversation.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers this wheelchair across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area after it is built to the approved order. We bring it in, check the fold and the wheel locks, and show you the setup the therapist specified before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a Helio folding frame first. For a scheduled delivery, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; a purchased custom wheelchair is delivered on a scheduled date.

If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a shipping quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace. ADP does not pay for repairs.

Motion Composites manufacturer warranty

For the original purchaser of an aluminum Helio A6 in Canada: 5 years on the aluminum frame and aluminum cross-brace, 1 year on Motion Composites-made components, and 30 days on listed wear items. The warranty is not transferable. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What does Category 3 mean on this chair?

Ontario dealers and authorizers treat Category 3 as a lightweight, centre-of-gravity-adjustable wheelchair with quick-release axles, anti-tippers, removable armrests, and specified footrests. The Helio A6 is a folding chair in that class. Category 4 in the same summaries is a rigid frame under 25 lb, which this is not.

Who may qualify for ADP funding?

Ontario residents with a valid health card whose disability needs a mobility device for 6 months or longer, after an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist. Income is not the test. We cannot promise that a specific person will be approved. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before any order is placed.

How does the 75 / 25 split work?

For an eligible client, the ADP-registered vendor bills ADP 75% of the approved price for the device. The client pays the remaining 25%, plus any extras ADP does not cover. People on Ontario Works, ODSP, or ACSD can be covered at 100% of that approved price. Optional accessories on the order form may sit outside the approved amount.

What is the assessment process?

An ADP-registered OT or PT examines the person, confirms the need, and helps complete the mobility-devices application. Westin, as the vendor, finishes the manufacturer order form with that authorizer and submits it. Do not purchase first. A chair bought before approval is not reimbursed.

How long does ADP take?

Ontario publishes a target of reviewing the application within 8 weeks of receiving it. Build time for a Helio starts after the configuration is approved. Ask us for a current production estimate once the order form is locked.

Can I try a Helio A6 before we submit?

We can often show a Helio folding frame at a Brampton or Toronto store so you and the therapist can talk through fold, seat width, and wheel position. A floor chair is not the finished prescription. Ask us what is on the floor this week.

How should the seat width be chosen?

The authorizer measures seated hip width and writes 14 to 22 inches on the order. Leave a little room on each side. Depth is 14 to 20 inches. Do not guess a width from a clothing size.

Will the A6 fold into a car?

Yes, it is a folding frame. Motion Composites designed the Ultrarigid Folding System for that lift. The lightest functional 16x16 configuration on the current card is 25.4 lb. Two people and a hatch still make the lift easier. It is a wheelchair, not a car seat, unless the order includes the specified transit option and the vehicle is set up for it.

Who pushes the Helio A6?

The person in the chair, using the handrims on the large rear wheels. A companion can also push from the back. Engage both wheel locks before sitting or standing.

What is the warranty?

Five years on the aluminum frame and cross-brace, one year on Motion Composites-made components, 30 days on listed wear items, original purchaser in Canada. Westin processes the claim. Details are on our service and repairs page.

What happens if ADP declines the application?

Ontario sends a letter with the reason and how to follow up, including an appeal. The chair is not automatically billed to you. We can look at the letter with you, talk about a resubmission, or point you to other routes on the funding page.

Is the Helio A6 still a current Motion Composites model?

Yes. Motion Composites still publishes the A6 product card and a June 2026 Ontario order form. Newer Helio Kids, VELOCE, and APEX chairs exist as other models, not as a silent replacement for the A6.
