HighStar Hygiene Sling

The HighStar Hygiene Sling is a Canadian-made woven loop sling for toileting. HighStar's page says it gives maximum support while toileting, with a self-adjusting waist strap for positioning. The 2022 Homecare list sells Hygiene, Hygiene with head support, and Hygiene with buckle as separate article families. Westin Healthcare fits them in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.

Who this sling is for

Use a hygiene sling when the transfer is a toileting transfer and the person meets the criteria for an open-bottom toileting sling. HighStar's Universal toileting note still applies: a universal sling is the fallback when a hygiene sling is not appropriate. Confirm with a clinician.

Which article

Default is Hygiene Medium (113404). Head-support articles are 11341x. Buckle articles are 11340xB (template 20656 today).

Attachment and compatible lifts

This is a loop sling. HighStar writes that it is compatible with any floor or ceiling lift that accepts loop-style slings. Colour-coded loops go onto the carry-bar hooks. It does not use Human Care E-clips or mushroom fasteners.

On our floor it belongs on a Handicare loop carry bar: the Handicare C450, the Handicare C625, the Handicare A450, or the two-point SlingBar on the Handicare Carina 350. Drive and Hoyer manuals restrict those lifts to their own slings, so we do not hang a HighStar sling there. Confirm size and fabric with a clinician or our staff before first use.

Care and laundering

HighStar's instruction sheet: wash inside a laundry bag, temperatures not to exceed 80 C / 176 F, no bleach, air dry or cool tumble with no heat, no dry clean, no iron. Always follow the care label sewn on the sling you receive. Inspect loops, seams, and the label before every use. Remove the sling from service if it is torn, frayed, or the label is no longer legible.

Warranty

When something on the sling needs work, you call the shop that sold it. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department.

HighStar manufacturer warranty

HighStar's current instruction sheets do not print a simple year-count warranty. They do print that a properly cared for sling should last about 2 to 3 years. Ask us for the warranty that ships with your article. We handle the claim with you.
