Who this lift chair is for

The Cambridge is for a person whose legs no longer push them out of a soft recliner reliably, and whose family wants a chair that does one job extremely well rather than twenty jobs adequately. It answers three real problems. Standing up: the lift raises the whole seat smoothly toward standing, so hips and knees do the last bit instead of the first bit. Sitting down safely: you back into a raised seat instead of dropping into a low one. Comfort through a long day: the biscuit back and Motion Box seat are built for hours of TV, reading and napping, not just for the transfer.

It is the right chair when simplicity is the feature: after a stroke, with Parkinson's, with arthritis in the hands, or simply at 85 with no interest in a hand control that needs programming. Three-position comfort, Golden build

Three positions means the chair travels through lift, seated and reclined on one circuit, and the transition is where Golden's quality lives: the lift is smooth at the top rather than throwing you forward, and the recline settles rather than dropping. The 1-zone Comfort Zone system ergonomically sets the seat and back to the position you choose, and the two-button hand control routes inside a pocket so it is always where you left it. An extra pocket on the side holds remotes and glasses.

SmartTek diagnostics are built in: the hand control reports fault codes, so when something needs service our technicians usually know the part before the visit. The 9 volt battery backup lowers the chair to seated during a power outage, which is the safety function that matters.

Size and wall space

Two sizes, one frame design. Small/Medium (PR401-SME) for smaller users and tighter rooms: 33 inches wide, 41.5 tall, seat 20 wide by 19 deep, floor to seat 19 inches. Medium/Large (PR401-MLA) for average and taller users: 35 inches wide, 44.5 tall, seat 22 by 22, floor to seat 22 inches. Both need only 18 to 19 inches of clearance behind them fully reclined, which is what makes the Cambridge work in apartments and condos. Measure the doorway on the way in as well as the wall behind: 33 and 35 inch frames fit most clear openings, but call us with yours and we will confirm before you order.

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund lift chairs, so plan around other routes. Measure seat width, seat depth and floor-to-seat height against the chair you find comfortable today. Under about 5'4" the Small/Medium fits most people; 5'4" to 6'0" the Medium/Large; over 6' you will want to also compare the taller-backed chairs we carry. How far from the wall does the Cambridge need to be?

18 inches for the Small/Medium and 19 for the Medium/Large, fully reclined. That is close to a wall-hugging number, which is why the Cambridge works in small rooms.

What is the difference between a 3 position and an infinite position lift chair?

A three-position chair moves lift, seat and recline together on one control circuit: sit, watch TV, recline, and no flatter. What is the weight capacity of the Cambridge?

Yes. The USB charging port is built into the two-button hand control, so a phone charges where your hand already rests.

What happens in a power outage?

The 9 volt battery backup brings the chair down out of the lift to a safe seated position. It is a safety descent, not full operation, and the battery is a standard 9 volt you can replace yourself.
