Description

What is the Drive 12014 raised toilet seat?

The Drive 12014 is a premium plastic raised toilet seat with a front locking knob and no arms. Drive's spec sheet sizes it at 17 inches wide, 16.5 inches deep, and 4.5 inches high, weighs it at 4 lb, and rates it to 300 lb (136 kg). The sheet titles it a regular/elongated seat and says it fits most elongated toilets. Plastic parts are made using recycled materials. No tools are required to install it.

Who is this lock-on seat for?

It is for someone who needs the bowl higher to sit and stand, and who does not want armrests in the way of a sideways transfer. The lock is the safety piece: the owner's manual says the seat must be locked and the front knob tight before anyone sits, and that weight should stay centred on the seat.

If the household seat and lid are fine and you only need height under them, the AquaSense toilet seat riser with hinge goes under the seat you already own. This 12014 replaces the seat.

How does the lock install?

Lift the toilet's own lid and seat. Set the rear wings of the 12014 around the rim, centre the seat, and turn the front knob clockwise until it is hand tight. Drive says not to use tools and not to over-tighten. Some bowls need the original seat removed before this one will sit flat. If it will not lock solidly, the manual says to stop using it.

The opening is wide at the front and the back for hygiene. The seat is lightweight enough to move between toilets, and it wipes clean.

How does 12014 compare with the other raised seats?

The Drive 12013 is the elongated lock seat with arms. That page is a 5 inch seat. This 12014 is the no-arm seat at 4.5 inches. Medics Mobility sells them as the without-arms and with-arms pair. They are not the same product.

The Drive hinged toilet seat riser is a different lock-on seat at 3.5 inches, in a regular or elongated shape, rated to 250 lb. More seats are on the raised toilet seat hub, inside bathroom safety.

Care and warranty

Check the lock before each use. Wipe the seat after use. Drive's spec sheet prints a limited lifetime warranty. The owner's manual says the seat is only for help sitting and standing, and that it will not fit every bowl.

Does funding cover a raised toilet seat in Ontario?

The Ontario Assistive Devices Program does not pay for bathroom aids such as this seat. An insurer or a tax credit may still apply when the expense qualifies. See the Assistive Devices Program guide and the funding pages for what those programs actually cover.

Does the Drive 12014 have arms?

No. It is the without-arms seat. The 5 inch seat with arms is the 12013.

How much height does it add?

Drive's sheet lists the seat at 4.5 inches high, 17 inches wide, and 16.5 inches deep.

Will it fit a standard toilet?

Drive titles it regular/elongated and the spec bullet says it fits most elongated toilets. If the bowl is an unusual shape, the manual says to stop if the lock will not sit solidly.

How much weight can it hold?

Drive rates the 12014 to 300 lb (136 kg).
