Description
The Handicare Castor Free Standing Track is a two-post aluminum rail stand. Together with a ceiling-lift motor it works as a stationary overhead lift without a rail on the ceiling. Westin Healthcare is an official Savaria Patient Care dealer. We quote the stand, deliver it, and set it up in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
Castor is the portable freestanding rail for a Handicare or Savaria ceiling-lift motor when a permanent ceiling track cannot go in. It is not the Handicare FST-300. The FST-300 is a lighter 300 lb travel gantry for a portable motor. It is not the pressure-fit system either. That product braces posts between the floor and the ceiling. Castor stands on two T-feet, takes an 82, 156, or 197 in rail, and is built for both fixed and portable motors.
Who it is for
This stand is for a person who needs overhead transfers in a room that cannot take a drilled ceiling rail: a rental, a heritage ceiling, a short stay, or a space where the track has to come down later. Homes, group homes, and care rooms use it when the motor will be a Handicare or Savaria ceiling lift, fixed or portable. Pick the rail length for the lifting area, then pick a motor whose rating is at or below that kit.
- Bedrooms and bathrooms that need a rated rail with no ceiling fasteners
- Rooms that already have, or will get, a Handicare C-Series, A-Series, or Savaria Monarch / M-Series motor
- Sites that need 450 lb on the 82 in or 197 in kit, or 625 lb on the 156 in kit
What you get and how it is built
Each order is a kit: two supporting feet, two height-adjustable uprights with corner pieces, locking handles, carrying handles, and the rail for the length you pick. Track brackets and end stops come with the rail. A charging end stop can sit on the rail when the motor uses in-track charge. The ceiling-lift motor, trolley or carriage, carry bar, and slings are quoted with the person and the room. They are not in this carton.
Posts, bases, and rail are extruded aluminum. Height has seven positions in 3 in (76 mm) steps. Set both posts to the same height. The floor under the feet must be level. Handicare's owner's manual says an authorized technician assembles the stand. Westin's team does that work. After assembly the install sheet calls for a load test on the rail you picked.
The NA brochure names a wall-mount kit for bathtub transfers when only one foot can sit on the floor. Ask us to quote that hardware. It is not a picker on this page.
Handicare Castor Free Standing Track specifications
These figures are for the current North America Castor kits (343100, 343102, 343101). They come from Savaria's live Castor card and the Handicare NA brochure. They are not the FST-300 sheet and not the pressure-fit sheet.
Safe working load is 450 lb (204 kg) on the 82 in kit and the 197 in kit, and 625 lb (283 kg) on the 156 in kit. Kit weight is 97 lb (44 kg), 149 lb (68 kg), or 162 lb (73 kg). Total height is 79-96 in (2000-2430 mm). Lifting height is 76-89 in (1930-2260 mm). Each supporting foot is 47.0 in long and 5.0 in wide (1190 mm x 120 mm). Total width is 79-276 in depending on rail length. Width between uprights is 82-279 in. Lifting width is 88-285 in. Material is aluminum. The 2017 Prism owner's manual prints a 1-year warranty against defects in material or workmanship and states the document conforms to EN ISO 10535.
Do not read the FST-300's 300 lb, 46 lb, or no-tools setup onto Castor.
Track length options
Use Track length to pick the rail. The default on this page is the 82 in Regular Track (343100). A longer rail is not a higher rating. The 156 in Track Plus is the 625 lb kit. The 197 in Track Plus returns to 450 lb. The motor, carry bar, and slings stay on the quote for the person.
- 82 in (2080 mm) Regular Track (343100), 450 lb (204 kg), 97 lb (44 kg)
- 156 in (3960 mm) Track Plus (343102), 625 lb (283 kg), 149 lb (68 kg)
- 197 in (5000 mm) Track Plus (343101), 450 lb (204 kg), 162 lb (73 kg)
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up the Handicare Castor Free Standing Track across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble the stand and rail, and check the motor on your quote before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a freestanding rail first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased equipment is delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
This stand is oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the kit is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Which lift motors this fits
Fit is the star fact. Savaria's Castor card states the stand is for both fixed and portable ceiling-lift motors. The Prism owner's manual writes it for Prism Medical ceiling and portable lifts, and says not to hang anything else on the stand except those lifts, at or below the load on the posts. Handicare's older SystemRoMedic sheet names a portable motor with a separate carriage, or a fixed motor with a built-in carriage and a rail-mounted charger.
On Westin that means a Handicare or Savaria overhead motor whose own rating is at or below the Castor kit:
- Handicare C450 (450 lb fixed). Fits all three kits at 450 lb.
- Handicare A450 (450 lb fixed). Same 450 lb cap.
- Handicare C625 (625 lb fixed). Full 625 lb rating only on the 156 in kit (343102). On 343100 or 343101 the system is 450 lb.
- Savaria Monarch portable lift. The portable motor you carry between rooms. Pair it with a trolley in this rail. Match the Monarch SWL to the kit.
- Savaria M-Series fixed motors sit on Savaria's own related-product rail for Castor. If you already have our Savaria M-Series lithium-ion ceiling lift, ask us to match that cabin to the kit SWL before we book the date.
The installed system is always the lowest rating among the Castor kit, the motor, the carry bar, and the sling. A 600 lb or 625 lb motor on an 82 in or 197 in Castor is still a 450 lb system.
This stand is not a floor lift and not a sit-to-stand lift. It is not the Handicare FST-300. Use the FST-300 when you want the lighter 300 lb no-tools gantry for a portable motor. Use Castor when you want the longer rail and a fixed or portable Handicare / Savaria motor at 450 or 625 lb.
Loop slings belong on the carry bar of the motor, not on the stand. Shop Westin's matching sling styles: universal slings, full-body slings, toileting slings, and divided-leg slings.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the stand needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Handicare Castor warranty
The Prism Castor owner's manual prints a 1-year warranty against defects in material or workmanship from the date of purchase. Unauthorized work voids it. Wear, misuse, and water damage are excluded. The current Savaria card does not reprint a year count. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Which ceiling-lift motors fit the Castor stand?
Savaria states fixed and portable ceiling-lift motors. The owner's manual names Prism Medical ceiling and portable lifts rated for the stand. On our floor that is a Handicare C450, Handicare A450, Handicare C625, or Savaria Monarch, matched to the kit SWL. Ask us before you hang any other cabin on this rail.
How is Castor different from the Handicare FST-300?
They are different products. The FST-300 is a 300 lb, 8 ft, 46 lb travel gantry that one person can put up without tools, for a portable motor. Castor is a heavier 2-post stand with an 82, 156, or 197 in rail, 450 or 625 lb depending on that rail, and it takes both fixed and portable Handicare and Savaria motors. Westin's team assembles Castor.
How is Castor different from the pressure-fit ceiling track?
The pressure-fit system uses two, three, or four posts that press between the floor and the ceiling so you do not drill the ceiling structure. Castor does not press the ceiling. It stands on two T-feet. Different codes, different SWL table, different install.
What is the safe working load?
450 lb (204 kg) on 343100 (82 in) and 343101 (197 in). 625 lb (283 kg) on 343102 (156 in). The installed system is the lowest rating among the kit, motor, carry bar, and sling.
Does the quote include the ceiling-lift motor?
No. A quote for this page is the Castor stand and the rail length you pick. The motor, trolley or carriage, carry bar, and slings are planned with the person. Ask us for a matched motor from the list above.
Do I need to drill into the ceiling?
No. Castor stands on the floor. The NA brochure also names a wall-mount kit if one end of the rail has to meet a wall, for example at a bathtub. That kit is quoted with the room.
Can I move Castor to another room later?
Savaria describes the stand as easy to assemble, take apart, move, and store. The owner's manual still wants an authorized technician for assembly, and it warns you to move the stand with care. Call us if the stand has to change rooms. We will take it down and put it back up.
Can a 625 lb motor run on every Castor length?
No. Only the 156 in Track Plus (343102) is rated 625 lb. A C625 or any 600 lb class motor on the 82 in or 197 in kit is limited to 450 lb.
What slings fit this stand?
None attach to the posts. Slings attach to the carry bar on the motor. Use loop slings Savaria or Handicare approve for that bar. Shop universal, full-body, toileting, or divided-leg slings rated for that motor.
How do I clean the stand?
The owner's manual says to wipe the exterior with isopropyl alcohol on a cloth. Do not use other chemicals. Do not wet the stand.
What is the warranty on Castor?
The 2017 Prism owner's manual prints 1 year against defects in material or workmanship. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work. Details are on our service and repairs page.
