Description
The BIOS Living J-Handle Cane is BIOS Medical's foam J-style cane. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. BIOS prints a 33 to 37 inch (84 to 94 cm) height, 1 inch steps, a 300 lb (136 kg) rating, and a cushion grip that hangs over a forearm or a coat hook.
This is the BIOS Living foam J-handle. It is not the BIOS PVC J-handle (56016 / BD787), and it is not the derby, orthopedic, or offset cane. The crook is the classic walking-stick curve.
Who this cane is for
BIOS writes that a standard cane is for general support, and that a J-handle offers a classic look plus the chance to hang the cane on a forearm or a hook. Families here usually call when they want that crook in a Brampton or GTA home.
BIOS does not tell a reader to pick a J-handle over a derby or an offset. A clinician decides which handle fits. Westin does not give medical advice.
- A foam J crook BIOS rates at 300 lb (136 kg)
- A 33 to 37 inch (84 to 94 cm) push-button post
- Four Living colours: Black 56013, Silver 56014, Blue BD786, Copper 56012
Fit and height
BIOS prints a handle height of 33 to 37 inches (84 to 94 cm). BIOS prints 1 inch (3 cm) steps on this card. BIOS says to let the hands hang at the sides, then pick the push-button hole that puts the handle at wrist level. A bend in the elbow is fine. BIOS also writes that a health care professional should size a mobility cane, and that a second person may help.
Come into a Brampton or Toronto store with the shoes the person will wear and we will set the post.
Handle, tip, and base
The handle is a soft foam J. BIOS says the cushion grip places less stress on the wrist and hands, and that the crook hangs over a forearm or a coat hook. BIOS does not print a wrist strap on this card.
The foot is a single non-slip rubber tip. This cane does not fold. BIOS sells replacement tips in 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, and 1 inch, plus a 56032 ice-pick tip. BIOS does not print which size fits this shaft. Bring the old tip or the cane if you need a match.
Weight and portability
BIOS does not print a unit weight on the Living J-handle card. The carton is a walking-stick box, not freight. We still bring it in and set the height if you want setup in Brampton or the GTA.

Use Choose Color to pick Black, Silver, Blue, or Copper. BIOS maps those to 56013, 56014, BD786, and 56012 on the Living foam J-handle line. This is not the PVC J-handle sold as 56016 Silver or BD787 Black.
Cane handle types
A J-handle is a crook that hangs on a forearm or a hook. A derby is a wide rounded grip for cramped fingers. An orthopedic handle is an angled soft grip. An offset handle sets the shaft under the hand. BIOS sells each of those as its own SKU set. They are not colourways of one cane.
If you want the wide derby, look at the BIOS Living Derby Cane. If you want the shaft under the hand, look at the BIOS Living Offset Cane. If you want the angled soft grip, look at the BIOS Living Orthopedic Cane.
Funding help for a cane or crutches in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not fund standard canes or crutches, so plan around other routes.
