Description
The Spex Standard Contour Cushion is Sunrise Medical's starting Spex modular wheelchair cushion for Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Sunrise writes it to build a pelvic foundation with a strategic positioning base under the foam.
This is a quote-only configured cushion. It is foam with an adjustable base, not a fluid JAY and not an air cushion.
Who this cushion is for
The Spex Standard Contour Cushion fits a person whose seating therapist wants Spex cells under a milder contour than High or SuperHigh. A seating therapist should confirm the height and contour. This page does not give clinical positioning advice.
- Height 2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 cm)
- Width 10 to 20 inches (25 to 50 cm)
- 200 / 300 lb (90 / 136 kg) on the CA card
Strategic base, foam, and covers
The Spex Standard Contour Cushion changes shape from the base so the upper foam is not carved away. Sunrise prints that the cushion was laboratory tested in the USA and that five-zone readings showed smooth transitions, and calls it an excellent candidate for people at risk of skin ulcers. That is Sunrise's printed line, not a healing promise.
Each cushion ships with a washable spacer outer cover and a wipe-down Spextex incontinence cover. The owner's manual says not to use the cushion without the incontinence cover. Outer cover: machine wash 40 C / 104 F. Inner: hand wash, no bleach.
Spex Standard Contour Cushion specifications
These figures are from Sunrise Medical's current Canadian Standard Contour card. The specification tab holds the stored values.

User weight 200 lbs (90 kg) on 10-15 inch widths and 300 lbs (136 kg) on 16-20 inch widths on the live CA card. The shared Spex cushion manual prints 350 lbs (160 kg) on 16-20 inch sizes; the quote follows the live CA card.
Warranty in the Spex cushion owner's manual is 24 months for the original purchaser.
Which Spex wheelchair cushion
Stay with the Spex Standard Contour Cushion if the therapist wants the Spex base at the milder contour. The Spex High Contour Cushion is the extra-immersion step. The Spex SuperHigh Contour Cushion is the deepest CA contour. The Spex Flex Cushion is the limited-hip-flexion configuration. The historic Spex High Profile Cushion name is not on the current CA Spex index.
Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario
This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Service and warranty
When something on the seating needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Sunrise Medical Spex warranty
The Spex cushion owner's manual prints 24 months from purchase on the foam unit, strategic positioning base, outer cover, and incontinence cover for the original purchaser. General wear, punctures, tears, and burns sit outside that term. Sunrise notes that Canadian terms can follow provincial funding rules. We handle the warranty claim with you.
Frequently asked questions
What Size Wheelchair Cushion Do I Need?
A seating therapist measures hip width in sitting and matches the wheelchair seat. Spex CA cards for Standard, High, and SuperHigh Contour print widths 10 to 20 inches (25 to 50 cm) and depths 10 to 22 inches (25 to 56 cm). Ride Java prints discrete widths and depths from 14 to 20 inches.
How Do I Choose Between Gel, Foam, And Air Cushions?
Spex and Ride Designs cushions in this family are foam or custom foam, not a JAY Flow fluid pad and not an air-cell cushion. A seating therapist picks the medium. If the assessment points to fluid or air, ask us about current JAY or ROHO options instead.
Does ADP Cover Wheelchair Cushions?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can help with a wheelchair cushion or back support after an ADP-registered therapist assessment with an eligible mobility device. Eligibility depends on the person. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
Do I Order This Off The Shelf?
This is a quote-only seating product. Westin configures it after a seating assessment with an occupational therapist or physiotherapist. There is no add-to-cart delivery of a custom or made-to-order seat.
What Is The Weight Limit For The Spex Standard Contour Cushion?
The Spex Standard Contour Cushion is rated at 200 lbs (90 kg) on 10-15 inch widths and 300 lbs (136 kg) on 16-20 inch widths on Sunrise's current CA card.
How Do I Clean The Spex Standard Contour Cushion?
The Spex Standard Contour Cushion has a machine-washable spacer outer cover (40 C / 104 F) and a hand-wash Spextex incontinence cover. Do not bleach. Do not soak the foam. The manual says not to use it without the incontinence cover.
How Long Is The Spex Cushion Warranty?
The Spex Standard Contour Cushion carries 24 months from purchase in the Spex cushion owner's manual, for the original purchaser.
Can I See This Seating In Brampton?
Westin Healthcare can show Spex, Ride Designs, and Whitmyer samples in the Brampton and Toronto stores when they are on the floor, and can quote a configured product after a seating assessment. Call (905) 451-7743.
