Description
The Spex Flex Cushion is Sunrise Medical's configurable Spex wheelchair cushion for complex postures in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Sunrise writes the functional base for limited hip flexion up to 20 degrees, among other configurations the therapist can build on the spot.
This is a quote-only configured cushion. The cover can change shape after the inner foam is adapted. It is not Standard Contour and it is not SuperHigh.
Who this cushion is for
The Spex Flex Cushion is for a person whose seating therapist is solving a cushion problem Spex describes as limited hip flexion, changing needs, or a high need for pelvic stability. A seating therapist should confirm Flex. This page does not give clinical positioning advice and does not diagnose.
- Configurable strategic base, pads, and wedges
- Cover that can change shape after inner work
- 200 / 300 lb (90 / 136 kg) on the CA card
Base, cover, and care
The Spex Flex Cushion uses the Spex strategic positioning base plus pads and wedges. Sunrise prints a bevelled front edge for knee contractures. Inner incontinence and outer breathable covers are included. Outer: washable spacer. Inner: wipe-down Spextex.
Spex Flex Cushion specifications
These figures are from Sunrise Medical's current Canadian Flex card. The specification tab holds the stored values.
Height 2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 cm). Width 10 to 20 inches (25 to 50 cm). Product weight 0.8 to 2.7 kg (1.75 to 6 lbs). User weight 200 lbs (90 kg) on 10-15 inch widths and 300 lbs (136 kg) on 16-20 inch widths on the live CA card. Depth is not printed on the CA card, so the quote does not invent one.
Warranty in the Spex cushion owner's manual is 24 months for the original purchaser. Flex also has a 2019 Flex-specific manual linked on the CA card.
Which Spex wheelchair cushion
Stay with the Spex Flex Cushion if the therapist wants this configurable base. The Spex Standard Contour Cushion is the milder Spex start. The Spex High Contour Cushion is extra immersion. The Spex SuperHigh Contour Cushion is the deepest CA contour.
Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario
This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Service and warranty
When something on the seating needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Sunrise Medical Spex warranty
The Spex cushion owner's manual prints 24 months from purchase on the foam unit, strategic positioning base, outer cover, and incontinence cover for the original purchaser. General wear, punctures, tears, and burns sit outside that term. Sunrise notes that Canadian terms can follow provincial funding rules. We handle the warranty claim with you.
Frequently asked questions
What Size Wheelchair Cushion Do I Need?
A seating therapist measures hip width in sitting and matches the wheelchair seat. Spex CA cards for Standard, High, and SuperHigh Contour print widths 10 to 20 inches (25 to 50 cm) and depths 10 to 22 inches (25 to 56 cm). Ride Java prints discrete widths and depths from 14 to 20 inches.
How Do I Choose Between Gel, Foam, And Air Cushions?
Spex and Ride Designs cushions in this family are foam or custom foam, not a JAY Flow fluid pad and not an air-cell cushion. A seating therapist picks the medium. If the assessment points to fluid or air, ask us about current JAY or ROHO options instead.
Does ADP Cover Wheelchair Cushions?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can help with a wheelchair cushion or back support after an ADP-registered therapist assessment with an eligible mobility device. Eligibility depends on the person. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
Do I Order This Off The Shelf?
This is a quote-only seating product. Westin configures it after a seating assessment with an occupational therapist or physiotherapist. There is no add-to-cart delivery of a custom or made-to-order seat.
What Makes The Spex Flex Cushion Different?
The Spex Flex Cushion is the Spex cushion Sunrise writes for limited hip flexion up to 20 degrees and other hard-to-solve configurations, with a cover that can change shape after the inner unit is adapted.
What Is The Weight Limit For The Spex Flex Cushion?
The Spex Flex Cushion is rated at 200 lbs (90 kg) on 10-15 inch widths and 300 lbs (136 kg) on 16-20 inch widths on Sunrise's current CA card.
How Long Is The Spex Cushion Warranty?
The Spex Flex Cushion follows the Spex cushion 24 month term in the shared owner's manual, for the original purchaser.
Can I See This Seating In Brampton?
Westin Healthcare can show Spex, Ride Designs, and Whitmyer samples in the Brampton and Toronto stores when they are on the floor, and can quote a configured product after a seating assessment. Call (905) 451-7743.
