Which beds this fits

Savaria specifies this kit for MC7 and MC9 beds, and states one exclusion. Read the exclusion before ordering for a mixed floor.

• Fits: Encore MC9 beds, including the ReadyWide and battery backup builds sold as the Span Encore package. The Encore accessories list names the bed and deck angle indicator kit as a customization.
• Fits: Advantage ReadyWide MC7 beds, including MC7W, MC7WM, MC7WL, MC7WML, and the mobility and floor lock builds. The ReadyWide item-code table prints Q6703 as the bed and deck angle indicator.
• Does not fit: the Span Weigh Scale bed, model MC7WSML. Savaria states plainly that this kit is not available on that model. If your floor mixes weigh scale beds with standard MC7 beds, count them separately before you place the order.

What the two indicators read

The name is literal. The kit reads two different things, and understanding the difference is what makes it useful.

Deck angle is the head deck rising against a level frame. On the MC7 and the MC9, back elevation runs from 0 to 70 degrees and knee elevation from 0 to 30 degrees. This is the angle most care plans mean when they specify a head-of-bed position.

Bed angle is the whole frame tilted head-down or head-up: Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg, activated from the foot end staff controller on both beds. The deck can be flat while the bed itself is tilted, which is exactly the situation where an estimate from across the room goes wrong.

Both beds also carry advanced clinical positioning presets. The Encore adds Comfort Chair and Cardiac Care alongside Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg, and its foot end controller is a seventeen-function control that includes rapid head deck lowering. The ReadyWide foot end controller is a sixteen-function control. The indicators are passive gauges: they do not control anything, they show you what the bed is doing.

The safe working load on these beds includes the weight of accessories, options, and bedding: 600 lb on the Encore MC9 and 500 lb on the Standard ReadyWide MC7, with the ReadyWide Plus at 650 lb. A pair of indicators is a light addition, but on a bed already carrying an air surface, a trapeze, and rails, the total is worth checking.

Cleaning and care

Clean the indicators the way Span asks you to clean the bed. A damp cloth or sponge with warm water and a mild detergent, or a diluted neutral disinfectant such as the ones named in the Encore manual, and care not to use excessive water around the control panels and the control box. Do not use solvents, alcohol, or petroleum products on the surface, and do not put bed parts through a high pressure wash tunnel.

Check the brackets during routine maintenance. Span asks that all fasteners on the bed be tightened and seated within the specified torque limits at the regular service interval, which is every 6 to 12 months depending on how hard the bed is used.

Span Medical Products Canada warrants beds and bed accessories against defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use from the date of initial delivery. Bed accessories carry one year, and that is the row this kit sits in. Batteries, hand pendants, foot end controllers, and cables carry one year. Electrical components, meaning the control box and the actuators, carry five years. The frame and all welds on steel structural components carry fifteen years.
