Description
The Span America Bed Battery Backup ReadyWide Plus MC7 LINAK, Field Installed (manufacturer code Q6769) is the backup battery for the Span Advantage ReadyWide Plus, the 650 lb model built on the LINAK control system. Span describes the backup battery as being "for use when there is a power outage, or the bed needs to be operated where there is no power source nearby". Westin Healthcare specifies, supplies and services Span beds in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.
This is the field code. It is the retrofit, fitted by a technician to a ReadyWide Plus that is already in a room, so a bed bought without a battery is not stuck without one. If the bed has not been built yet, put the factory version on the bed order instead, Q6770, which is the code Savaria prints by name on the ReadyWide product page and in the ReadyWide brochure.
Which beds this fits
Read this before you order, because Savaria supplies a different battery code depending on the bed's control system and model tier, and the codes are not interchangeable. This is the single most common way a Span battery order goes wrong.
| Bed and control system | Field install | Factory install |
|---|---|---|
| Advantage ReadyWide Plus, MC7WP, LINAK controls | Q6769 (this page) | Q6770 |
| Advantage ReadyWide Standard MC7 and Encore MC9, TiMOTION controls | Q6700 | Q6701 |
| Advantage QD1000, T-motion | Q6682 | Q6680 |
Savaria makes the split explicit in its own literature. The ReadyWide brochure prints "Q6701 Battery back up (Standard model) - factory installed" and then, on the very next line, "Q6770 Battery back up (Plus model) - factory installed". The 2026 range adds the control system to each: Standard is TiMOTION, Plus is LINAK. The same keying runs through the rest of the Plus options, which is why the Plus under-bed lighting has its own code as well.
The Plus is the 650 lb (295 kg) safe working load model. On our shelf it is the Span Advantage ReadyWide Plus, order code MC7WPML, with mobility, floor lock and foot end controls. If the bed you are buying for is a Standard ReadyWide or an Encore MC9, the battery you want is Q6701 for a new bed or Q6700 for a bed in service, not this one.
If you do not know which control system your bed has, call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number from the bed label and we will identify it before anything is ordered. It takes a minute and it saves a return.
Span backup battery specifications
These figures come from the BACK-UP BATTERY section of the Span owner manual for the MC7 / Advantage ReadyWide series, which is the manual that governs this bed family. Span prints one backup battery section for the series and does not print a separate electrical table for the Plus model code, so treat these as the series figures. The safe working load figure is the Plus figure from Savaria's own ReadyWide specification panel.

Span does not publish a runtime, an amp-hour capacity, or a number of bed movements per charge, and we will not invent one. What is published is the duty cycle. The bed and the battery are both rated at 10 percent, meaning a maximum of two minutes running followed by eighteen minutes off. A backup battery on these beds is for repositioning a person and getting the bed to a safe height during an outage, not for running the bed continuously.
Keep the bed's total load in mind as well. Span states that the safe working load includes the weight of accessories, options and bedding: 650 lb on the ReadyWide Plus, 500 lb on the Standard ReadyWide MC7, and 600 lb on the Encore MC9. Every option you add uses part of that allowance.
Charging and keeping the battery healthy
Span is specific about this, and following it is what makes the battery there when you need it.
- The battery charges through the bed. It must be plugged into the bed's control box, and the control box must be connected to AC power.
- Always keep the battery plugged into the control box. It is not a shelf item you connect when a storm is coming.
- Charge it continuously for at least 24 hours before first use, before a long period in storage, and again after a long period in storage or any long stretch with the bed unplugged.
- The LED on the battery shows charge status.
- The battery is replaceable, and Span states it should be replaced only with a battery provided by Span Medical Products Canada. Ask us and we will order the correct one.
Span also warns that using replacement parts or accessories from other manufacturers on a Span bed can invalidate the warranty and damage the bed. A generic lead acid pack is not a substitute, and neither is the TiMOTION battery from another bed in the same building.

Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page with the bed model and serial number and we will book the visit.

Browse the range in hospital bed accessories and hospital beds. The bed this battery belongs to is the Span Advantage ReadyWide Plus, and its other LINAK options include the out of bed alarm cable kits: normally open and normally closed. For the TiMOTION beds the battery is Q6701 or Q6700. If you arrived here for a different manufacturer's bed, the equivalent we stock for a Drive PrimeCare is the Drive P903 battery backup; Span and Drive parts do not cross over. The rest of the range sits under long term care beds, alongside the Span Advantage Q-Series and the Span transport dolly.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed or an accessory needs work, you call the shop that supplied it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department and our technicians come to the home or the workplace.
Span America manufacturer warranty
Span Medical Products Canada warrants beds and bed accessories against defects in workmanship and materials under normal and proper use from the date of initial delivery. Batteries, hand pendants, foot end controllers and cables carry one year, bed accessories carry one year, and parts subject to wear carry one year. Electrical components, which Span defines as the control box and the actuators, carry five years. The frame and all welds on steel structural components carry fifteen years. Labour for service is not covered by the manufacturer warranty. We handle the claim with you.
Frequently asked questions
What is the manufacturer code?
Q6769. The 2026 Savaria pricelist prints it as "Battery backup, Plus Model, MC7(LINAK), FIELD INSTALLED". It is the field-install counterpart of Q6770, which Savaria prints by name on the SPAN ReadyWide page and in the ReadyWide brochure.
Should I order factory or field?
Factory, Q6770, if the bed has not been built yet, because it arrives fitted and tested with the bed. Field, Q6769, if the bed is already in a room. Savaria offers the built-in backup battery both ways on the Plus, exactly as it does on the Standard beds.
How do I know whether my bed is the Plus?
The Plus is the 650 lb safe working load model, and its order code carries a P: MC7WPML rather than MC7WML. Savaria prints the two safe working loads side by side, 500 lb for the Standard and 650 lb for the Plus. The bed label carries the model. If you cannot find it, call (905) 451-7743 with the model and serial number and we will check.
Can I use the Standard bed's battery instead?
No. Q6701 and Q6700 are the Standard and Encore codes on TiMOTION controls. Q6770 and Q6769 are the Plus codes on LINAK controls. Savaria prints them as separate lines because they are separate parts, and Span warns that fitting parts from elsewhere can invalidate the warranty and damage the bed.
How long will the bed run on the battery?
Span does not publish a runtime, an amp-hour rating, or a number of movements per charge, so we do not quote one. The published duty cycle is 10 percent, a maximum of two minutes on and eighteen minutes off. Treat it as enough to reposition a person and bring the bed to a safe height during an outage.
Do I have to leave it plugged in?
Yes. Span states the battery must be plugged into the bed's control box with the control box connected to AC power in order to charge, and that you should always keep it plugged in. Charge it continuously for at least 24 hours before first use and around any long period of storage.
Can I use a generic battery when it wears out?
No. Span states the battery must be replaced only with a battery provided by Span Medical Products Canada, and warns that parts from other manufacturers can invalidate the warranty and damage the bed.
Is the battery inside the bed or hanging off it?
Span's manual says the bed comes with an optional internal or external backup battery, without tying either arrangement to a code, so we repeat the manufacturer's wording rather than picking one. If the physical arrangement matters for your room, ask us and we will confirm with Savaria for your build.
What is the warranty?
One year. Batteries sit in Span's one-year row along with hand pendants, foot end controllers and cables, not in the five-year electrical components row. Labour for service is not part of the manufacturer warranty. Our own service and repairs department handles the claim with you.
