Description

Who is this transport wheelchair rental for?

This rental suits a short recovery, a hospital discharge, appointments or a visiting relative when another person will always be available to push. It is often the straightforward choice for getting someone from a hospital entrance to a vehicle and then into a home or condo. It is not the right chair for a person who will be alone and needs to move independently.

How do you choose the seat width?

Measure hip to hip at the widest point while the person is seated on a firm surface, then add about one inch. That result is the seat width, not the chair's overall width. The available transport-chair widths have not been confirmed in the product record, so give the measurement to Westin Healthcare at 905 451-7743 and let the rental desk confirm the fit before booking.

Can the user self-propel this chair?

No. A transport wheelchair has four small wheels, and a caregiver, family member or attendant pushes it. If nobody will be there to push, choose a folding manual wheelchair with large rear wheels for self-propelling, or ask for a mobility assessment. If the person needs the whole seating system tilted while the hip angle stays fixed, a manual tilt-in-space chair is a different rental.

Our rental fleet includes different brands in different conditions. The chair supplied will match the function booked rather than necessarily matching the photograph. Every chair is cleaned and safety checked between rentals. Chair weight, folded dimensions, seat sizes and capacity are not stated here because they have not been confirmed for the current fleet.

How does the rental work?

The minimum term is one week. The totals are $60 for one week, $70 for two weeks, $85 for three weeks and $95 for four weeks. Delivery, installation and pickup is $120, or you can collect from Unit 7, 15 Fisherman Drive in Brampton. HST is extra.

We confirm the refundable deposit amount before you commit. It is returned after the chair comes back and passes inspection, normally within about three business days. The agreement extends automatically unless you tell Westin Healthcare otherwise, so call 905 451-7743 before the current term ends to arrange the return or an extension.

Should you rent or buy a transport chair?

Four weeks costs $95 before delivery and HST. Renting is usually the practical choice for a discharge, a visitor or another short need. If the chair will still be needed after four weeks, compare a purchase before beginning another term. See the transport chair purchase option, and confirm that its measurements suit the user.

Eligible rental payments can be applied to a new equivalent product bought within 30 days of the rental start. This does not apply to sale or promotional products. A purchase is not funded by ADP simply because it replaces a rental, and transport chairs are excluded from ADP.

What funding help is available in Ontario?

This rental is not funded by ADP, and transport chairs are not covered at all. The Assistive Devices Program can fund up to 75 percent of the approved price of a purchased manual or power wheelchair and seating, after an assessment by an ADP-registered authoriser. OHIP does not reimburse a private rental.

If this is for a hospital discharge, ask the social worker about public equipment first or call Ontario Health atHome at 310-2222. A care coordinator can assess available support, while the Westin rental remains a private booking.
