Description
Who is this folding wheelchair rental for?
This rental suits a temporary need after a hospital discharge or surgery, a visiting relative who needs help getting around, or someone who wants to try a manual chair before buying. It has large rear wheels, so the person seated can self-propel when able, while a caregiver can also push from behind. Confirm with the discharge team that a wheelchair is the right device for the recovery plan.
How do you choose the seat width?
Measure hip to hip at the widest point while the person is seated on a firm surface, then add about one inch. That result is the seat width, not the wheelchair's overall width. This rental is available with 16x18, 18x18 and 20x20 inch seats, with two of each size in stock. If the measurement falls between sizes or posture is difficult to maintain, call 905 451-7743 before booking so the fit can be checked.
Can the user self-propel, or does someone have to push?
The large rear wheels let the user self-propel, and a caregiver can also push the chair. If the user cannot self-propel and another person will always be present, the lower-cost transport chair may be enough. If nobody will be available to push, do not book a transport chair. If the person cannot shift position and needs the whole seating system tilted, compare the manual tilt-in-space rental instead.
What are the confirmed specifications?
| Feature | Rental detail |
|---|---|
| Chair type | Folding manual wheelchair |
| Rear wheels | Large wheels for self-propelling or caregiver pushing |
| Seat sizes | 16x18, 18x18 and 20x20 inches |
| Current stock | Two chairs in each seat size |
Our rental fleet includes different brands in different conditions. The chair supplied will match the size and function booked rather than necessarily matching the photograph. Every chair is cleaned and safety checked between rentals.
How does the rental work?
The minimum term is one week. The totals are $60 for one week, $95 for two weeks, $120 for three weeks and $140 for four weeks. Delivery, installation and pickup is $120, or you can collect from Unit 7, 15 Fisherman Drive in Brampton. HST is extra.
We confirm the refundable deposit amount before you commit. It is returned after the chair comes back and passes inspection, normally within about three business days. The rental agreement extends automatically unless you tell Westin Healthcare otherwise, so call 905 451-7743 before the current term ends to change the return date or arrange an extension.
Should you rent or buy a manual wheelchair?
Four weeks costs $140 before delivery and HST. Renting is usually the simpler choice for a short recovery, a visitor or a trial. If the need is expected to continue after four weeks, compare a purchase before starting another term. See our manual wheelchairs to purchase for longer-term options.
Eligible rental payments can be applied to a new equivalent product bought within 30 days of the rental start. This does not apply to sale or promotional products. The final purchase choice still needs to fit the user's measurements and daily needs.
What funding help is available in Ontario?
This rental is not funded by ADP. The Assistive Devices Program can fund up to 75 percent of the approved price of a purchased manual or power wheelchair and seating, after an assessment by an ADP-registered authoriser. OHIP does not reimburse a private rental.
If this is for a hospital discharge, ask the social worker about public equipment first or call Ontario Health atHome at 310-2222. A private rental can bridge a short wait, but it is not converted into an rental claim funded through ADP.
