Description
The Medcare Limb Sling is a loop strap that wraps an arm, a leg, or the torso so a patient lift can hold that part of the body for care. Medcare, a Savaria and Handicare brand, makes it. Westin Healthcare quotes it and fits it in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area on a loop carry bar.
This is a limb-support sling, not a seated full-body transfer sling. If the person needs to move from bed to chair, start with the Handicare Universal Sling.
Who this sling is for
This sling is for a person who needs a limb or the trunk held up so staff can clean, dress a wound, place a catheter, or work through a range-of-motion task. Medcare also shows it for a torso hold (X-ray placement, or help from lying to a dangle at the bedside), a pannus hold, a turn in bed, and help bringing the legs back onto the bed. It is used in acute care and long-term care. It is not a sit-to-stand sling and it is not a hygiene sling with a commode opening.

What you get
You get one Medcare Limb Sling in the width and fabric on the quote: a padded wrap with a loop at each end. Polyester is ripstop and has antimicrobial protection. Disposable is a patient-specific sling for one person. Some tasks on the instruction drawings use two slings (one on each knee, or one at the back and one on a limb). Ask us if the room should be quoted a pair.
Sizing
Medcare prints two widths, 6 in and 12 in, in polyester and in disposable. There is no body-weight size chart for this strap. The width has to match the limb and the task. Confirm the width and fabric with a clinician or our staff before first use.

Safe working load is 450 lb (204 kg) on every code. The finished system is limited by the lowest rating among the lift, the carry bar, and the sling. Polyester is ripstop and antimicrobial. Disposable is for one patient; it may be used more than once on that person and must be replaced if it is soiled. Polyester washes at a maximum of 165 F (74 C) and dries at a maximum of 175 F (79 C). Do not bleach. Do not dry clean. Disposable slings are not laundered.
Attachment and compatible lifts
The Medcare Limb Sling is a loop sling. Medcare states that its loop-style slings are compatible with Medcare carry bars and with other 2-point, 4-point, and 6-point carry bars. The straps hook to the hanger bar: opposite sides for a limb wrap, or over the centre of the bar for some turning steps. Do not put these loops on a clip bar, a stud bar, or a Human Care E-clip / mushroom bar. If the bar is an E-clip, see the Human Care Full Body Sling E-clip instead.
On our floor, Handicare loop carry-bar hooks sit on the Handicare C450, the Handicare C625, and the Handicare A450, and on the two-point SlingBar of the Handicare Carina 350. Confirm the bar type before the first lift. A 450 lb motor limits the system to 450 lb. A Carina 350 limits the system to 350 lb even though the sling is 450 lb.

Care and laundering
Polyester: wipe between uses as the label directs, then machine wash in a soap solution at a maximum of 165 F (74 C). Rinse thoroughly. Hang dry or tumble dry at a maximum of 175 F (79 C). Do not bleach, do not dry clean, and keep the sling away from a direct heat source in the dryer. Inspect loops, fabric, and stitching after every wash. Take the sling out of service if anything is worn or the label cannot be read.
Disposable: do not put it through the laundry. It is for one patient. Replace it when it is soiled. Spot-clean or spray-disinfect only as the label on the sling you receive allows.
