Description
The Handicare AP300 is a portable ceiling-lift motor with a 300 lb (136 kg) safe working load. Handicare has discontinued the AP-Series. Savaria Patient Care, which now owns the Handicare line, replaced it with the lithium-ion Savaria Monarch portable lift. Ask us for a quote on remaining AP300 stock, if any, or for the current Monarch.
You carry a portable motor to a track or a freestanding gantry, hang it on the trolley, and take it down when you are done. If you need a portable frame rather than a ceiling track, see the Handicare FST-300. If you want a motor that stays in the track, see the Handicare C450.
Who it is for
The AP300 was for a person who needed a 300 lb portable motor that could move between rooms or sit on a gantry. If you are replacing an AP300 or comparing it to the current portable, start with the Monarch unless we still have AP300 stock to quote.
- Homes that already own an AP300 and need service or a like-for-like spare
- Anyone comparing the old 300 lb portable motor to the current Monarch
- Temporary rooms where a portable motor plus a gantry is enough
How it lifts
A portable ceiling lift is a motor you carry. You hang it on a trolley in a ceiling track or on a freestanding rail, hook a sling to the SafeGuard Hook, and use the hand control to raise and lower. You can share one motor across more than one track. Handicare named ActiveSense tilt detection, which stops the lift and sounds an alert if the motor is tilted at an unsafe lifting angle, and a SafeGuard Hook that loads from the side and keeps sling loops from walking off the hook.
This motor is not a floor lift. It still needs a rated rail. Westin's own team handles delivery and setup through the delivery section below.
Handicare AP300 specifications
These figures are for Handicare AP-300, official part 303080, which matches Westin's listing SKU. They are not the AP-450 figures.
Handicare's AP-Series brochure lists a 300 lb (136 kg) safe working load, a 12.0 lb (5.5 kg) unit weight, a 14 x 8.2 x 7.5 inch case, a lifting range up to 77 inches (1960 mm), 48 lifts at 180 lb on a charge, a single 24 V 1.2 Ah NiMH battery, a tactile IPx6 hand control, a 1 minute on / 9 minutes off duty cycle, and a service life of 10 years or 22,500 cycles. Safety items named by Handicare include ActiveSense tilt detection, the SafeGuard Hook, an antimicrobial strap with wear marks, emergency stop, emergency lowering, and a low-battery indicator.
The AP-450 is a different 450 lb portable motor (part 303060). Do not read the AP-450 cycle count or digital handset onto this SKU.
Slings and spreader bar
The AP300 uses Handicare's SafeGuard Hook, a closed-loop hook that takes sling loops from the side. That is a loop attachment. Use slings the manufacturer approves for this hook, and never exceed the 300 lb motor rating or the lower rating of the rail or sling.
Shop Westin's matching sling styles: universal slings, full-body slings, toileting slings, and divided-leg slings. Sit-to-stand slings belong on sit-to-stand floor lifts, not on this portable hook.
Funding help for a patient lift in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover patient lifts or other lifting devices. Funding routes that can help when the eligibility criteria fit: ODSP, March of Dimes Canada, and hardship funding programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this ceiling lift across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a ceiling lift first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased lifts are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Ceiling lifts are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the lift is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Can I rent a patient lift before I buy?
Yes. If you only need a lift for a recovery, or you want to live with a ceiling-lift setup before you buy, rent first. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub and the patient lift rentals page. Westin rents electric floor lifts and ceiling lift setups across Brampton and the GTA.
For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice.
If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the lift needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Handicare AP-Series warranty and parts
The AP-Series is discontinued. Warranty on any remaining new unit follows the card that ships with that serial number. Parts for an AP300 already in the home may still be available for a time. For a current portable motor with a published 3-year Savaria warranty, ask us about the Monarch. We handle the claim with you.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Handicare AP300 still made?
No. Handicare discontinued the AP-Series. Savaria's current portable motor is the Monarch (M-Series Portable). Call (905) 451-7743 and we will tell you if any AP300 stock remains or quote the Monarch instead.
What is the safe working load of the AP300?
Handicare lists 300 lb (136 kg) for the AP-300, part 303080. The AP-450 is a different 450 lb portable motor.
What replaced the AP300?
The Savaria Monarch portable lift, also sold as the M-Series Portable. It is a lithium-ion motor. Westin's Monarch listing is the 440 lb SKU M929001.
Does funding cover a portable ceiling lift in Ontario?
Funding routes exist for patient lifts in Ontario, and eligibility depends on the person and the assessment. Westin Healthcare works with those programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before anyone starts paperwork.
What slings fit the AP300?
Loop slings that sit in the SafeGuard Hook. Use universal, full-body, toileting, or divided-leg slings rated for this hook. Do not put a sit-to-stand sling on this portable motor.
Can the AP300 hang on the FST-300 gantry?
The FST-300 is a 300 lb freestanding rail. Handicare says it is for a Handicare portable lift whose safe working load is at most 300 lb, or for a higher-rated lift if you still obey the 300 lb rail limit. The AP300 matches that 300 lb rail. Ask us to confirm the trolley before we quote a pair.
Does a quote include track or a gantry?
No. A portable motor quote is the motor, hand control, and charger. Track or a gantry and slings are listed as their own lines. Ask us to write the full list so nothing is assumed.
Can I rent a lift while we decide on a replacement?
Yes. Westin rents electric floor lifts and ceiling lift setups. See current packages and rates on the rentals hub. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program.
How fast can a replacement portable lift be set up in the GTA?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased lifts across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the rental service, not automatically to a purchased unit.
Can you still service an AP300 we already own?
Call the service desk. We will tell you what parts are still available. If the motor is at the end of its support life, we will quote the Monarch rather than leave you without a working lift.
