Beka Nora Pro Lithium Ion Battery Pack

The Beka Nora Pro Lithium Ion Battery Pack is the removable battery that powers Beka Hospitec's Nora Pro sit-to-stand lift, manufacturer code 921077400. It is a 25 V lithium-ion pack of 4.3 Ah, rated IPX6, and it takes about 5 hours to charge. Westin Healthcare ships it across Canada and can bring it out on a service visit across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

Order this pack for a Nora Pro in clip connection (921078000) or a Nora Pro in loop connection (921078001). The earlier Nora Alu takes a different battery, ordered as 921070602, so tell us which lift you have and we will confirm the part before the order goes in.

When to order a second pack

Two packs is the normal answer for a busy floor. One is on the lift, one is in the charging station, and the lift never has to sit out of service waiting for a charge. It is also the honest answer for a home where the lift does several transfers a day and there is no good window to leave it plugged in.

• As a working spare, so a discharged pack never takes the lift out of service
• As a replacement, when a pack no longer holds its charge through a day of transfers
• For a second charging point, if the lift moves between floors or between rooms

The Nora Pro tells you where it stands. The LCD on the lift shows three bars when the pack is above about 75 per cent, two bars when it is at least half, one bar when it is nearly empty, and no bar when it needs charging urgently. If the display is dropping to one bar before the end of a shift, it is time to talk to us.

How it charges

Beka gives two routes and the pack supports both.

In the charging station. The external charging station (921077300, quoted separately) sits on a flat surface or mounts to a wall on the rail supplied with it. Lift the pack out of its holder on the lift and drop it in. The indicator shows green when the station has power, turns orange while the pack is charging, and goes back to green when it is full.

On the lift. Take the plug of the power supply off the charging station and put it into the socket on the side of the Nora Pro control unit, after taking the rubber plug out of the socket. The emergency stop has to be unlocked for on-board charging to work.

Either way Beka gives a charging time of about 5 hours. Do not use the lift while it is charging, and charge in a well-ventilated room.

Beka Nora Pro Lithium Ion Battery Pack specifications

The matching charger is the Nora Pro charging station, 921077300. Beka rates it at 100 to 240 V AC in at 50 or 60 Hz, 25 V DC out, a maximum input of 0.8 A, a T1.25 / 250 V fuse, and IPX4. It is quoted separately from the pack.

One note on the label. Beka's technical description calls this a 25 V battery, while the North American sell sheet and the Savaria product card describe the same pack as a removable 24 V lithium-ion battery. It is one part with two labels, and 921077400 is the number to order either way.

Handling it safely

Beka is direct about this in the operating manual, and it is worth repeating in full.

• Hazardous substances are contained in the battery. Do not open the pack and do not manipulate it in any way.
• Never expose the battery to open fire or excessive heat. Beka warns of a risk of fire and explosion.
• If the contents come into contact with skin or clothing, wash the affected area with plenty of water as soon as possible.
• If any of the ingredients get into the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and then see a doctor.
• Vapours of the ingredients can irritate the airway. Move the person into fresh air and then seek medical advice.
• Charge in a well-ventilated room, and do not use the lift while it is charging.
• Store and transport the pack between -10 and 40 degrees C (14 to 104 degrees F).

Beka also notes that not every spare part can be exchanged by the user and that fitting requires a qualified expert. If you would rather we did it, our technicians can fit the pack on a service visit and check the lift while they are there.

Service and repairs

When something on the lift needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not an overseas parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department and our technicians come to the home or workplace. If a lift is going through packs faster than it should, that is usually a symptom rather than the problem, and it is worth having the lift looked at rather than buying batteries.

Beka requires an annual safety check and maintenance by trained and qualified experts the manufacturer has authorized, recorded in your inventory register. Beka also asks for a daily clean and disinfect, a weekly visual check of all components, the power cable and the connections, and a function test. We can quote the annual inspection with the lift.

Which lift does this battery fit?

The Beka Nora Pro sit-to-stand lift, in both builds: 921078000 with the clip connection and 921078001 with the loop connection. The connection on the carry bar makes no difference to the battery.

Is it the same battery as the Nora Alu?

No. The Nora Alu takes a 24 V pack ordered as 921070602, which Beka lists in the Nora Alu accessory tables. This pack, 921077400, is the Nora Pro one. Tell us the model and we will match it.

Is it 24 V or 25 V?

It is one pack. Beka's technical description gives 25 V DC and 4.3 Ah; the North American sell sheet and the Savaria product card describe the same pack as a removable 24 V lithium-ion battery. Order it as 921077400.

How long does it take to charge?

Beka gives about 5 hours, whether you charge the pack in the charging station or charge the lift through the socket on the control unit.
