Description
The Savaria Bariatric In-Situ Hammock Sling is a full-support hammock for plus-size transfers that can stay under the person after the lift. It is a loop sling in Silva-Spacer with COOLMAX and COOLMAX freshFX EcoMade, with full leg paddles, inner and outer leg straps, hip tapes, and a 1200 lb (544 kg) safe working load. Westin Healthcare quotes it and fits it in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area on a matching bariatric loop lift.
Savaria lists two tailoring styles: short tucks and long tucks. Each style comes in Size 1 and Size 2. This is the leave-in-place Silva-Spacer hammock. The Savaria Deluxe Bariatric Sling is the heavy duty polyester seated sibling with the same tuck idea. The Handicare Hammock Sling is the standard Handicare hammock with built-in head support, not this bariatric cut.
Who this sling is for
This sling is for a person who needs a full-support hammock transfer, a bariatric-shaped sling, and a fabric that can stay in place between transfers. Savaria designed the tailoring for larger body shapes so the fabric supports the person instead of hanging loose. The instructions say the transfer is done in a slightly reclined position. A clinician or our staff must confirm the size and tuck style before first use. A risk assessment must be carried out to ensure that the correct size and style of sling has been met before use.
- Bed, chair, wheelchair, and commode transfers on a bariatric loop lift
- People who need femur support from full leg paddles and extra inner leg pick-up points
- Sites that want the sling left in-situ after the transfer, subject to an appropriate risk assessment
- A person whose own weight, plus the sling, stays inside 1200 lb and inside the lift's own rating
What you get
You get one sling in the style and size on your quote. The sling is Silva-Spacer with COOLMAX and COOLMAX freshFX EcoMade, with full leg paddles that have easy-glide fabric on both sides, additional inner leg loops, outer leg straps, hip tapes, and a multi-loop shoulder and leg set. A lift, carry bar, slide sheets, and neck roll are not in the carton.
Short tucks sit in the back section so the main body of the sling has more fullness. Long tucks run through the main body to support extra weight below the waist. We will pick the style with you.
Once the patient has been transferred, this sling can be left in-situ, subject to an appropriate risk assessment. Savaria also states it is suitable to be left in place for extended periods subject to risk assessment. The spacer is made to wick moisture and stay breathable. FreshFX uses a silver additive to help limit bacterial growth and odours. The fabric helps redistribute weight and reduce pressure build-up. A clinician still documents that choice.
Sizing
Savaria prints Size 1 and Size 2 on both tuck styles. Confirm the size with a clinician or our staff before first use. There is a gap between Size 1 and Size 2 on dimension A. We will measure with you rather than guess a mid size.
| Size | Short tucks | Long tucks | A, seated body width | B, seated side view | C, sling width | D, back depth |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | M921527-1 | M921528-1 | 31 1/2 in to 43 3/4 in (80-110 cm) | Up to 63 in (160 cm) | 40 1/2 in (109 cm) | 61 1/4 in (155 cm) |
| 2 | M921527-2 | M921528-2 | 47 1/4 in to 55 in (120-140 cm) | Up to 63 in (160 cm) | 51 1/4 in (150 cm) | 61 1/4 in (155 cm) |
Use Style and size to put one of those four codes on the quote. The default is M921527-1, Short Tucks Size 1. Call (905) 451-7743 if you are between sizes or unsure which tuck style fits.
Savaria Bariatric In-Situ Hammock Sling specifications
These figures are for the Bariatric In-Situ Hammock Sling. The specification tab holds the stored values.
Safe working load is 1200 lb (544 kg) on every size and both tuck styles. Material is Silva-Spacer with COOLMAX and COOLMAX freshFX EcoMade. Attachment is loop. Wash at 95 C / 203 F. Tumble dry on low heat, maximum 50 C. The sling is made in the United Kingdom by Silvalea, a Savaria company. Manufacturer warranty is 12 months. The instructions show an optional neck roll with adjustable straps; ask us if you need one on the same quote.
Which lifts this sling fits
This is a loop sling. Loop straps seat on a loop carry-bar hook. The instructions say to use it only with a suitable bariatric loop lift. It does not use clip fasteners or Human Care E-clip / mushroom bars.
The finished system is limited by the lowest rating among the lift, the carry bar, and the sling. The sling is rated 1200 lb. The lift must be a bariatric loop lift, and the person's weight must stay inside that lift's own safe working load.
Westin sells these matching loop lifts:
- Savaria M-Series Bariatric, the ceiling motor that can be ordered at 800, 1000, or 1200 lb. Choose the 1200 lb cabin when you need the lift to carry this sling's full rating.
- Handicare C-1000, a 1000 lb bariatric C-Series ceiling motor. The pair is then limited to 1000 lb.
- Handicare C-800, an 800 lb bariatric C-Series ceiling motor.
- Handicare C625, a 625 lb C-Series motor we already stock. Use it when the person is inside 625 lb.
- Span F600B, a 600 lb bariatric floor lift with a 6-point loop bar. The pair is then limited to 600 lb.
If you need the polyester seated bariatric sling instead of this leave-in-place hammock, stay with the Deluxe Bariatric Sling. If you need the standard Handicare hammock with built-in head support, stay with the Hammock Sling. A lighter general seated loop sling is the Handicare Universal Sling. Shop related styles in full-body slings, universal slings, and divided-leg slings. Sit-to-stand slings belong on a sit-to-stand lift, not on this overhead or floor carry bar.
Care and laundering
Wash at 95 C / 203 F with a non-biological detergent. Tumble dry on low heat, maximum 50 C. Close any hook-and-loop before the wash. Do not iron. Do not dry the sling on a heater or a steam pipe. Inspect loops, straps, seams, and the label after every wash. Remove the sling from use if anything is worn, torn, or if the label cannot be read.
Delivery in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team can deliver this sling across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area, on its own or with a ceiling-lift or floor-lift setup. We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a sling first. For a scheduled drop-off or a fitting, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works.
This is a small carton. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods can apply when it ships without a lift. If it travels with a patient lift, the lift is oversized and White-Glove Delivery is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Service and warranty
When something on the sling needs work, you call the shop that sold it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department.
Savaria / Silvalea manufacturer warranty
Silvalea states a 12 month manufacturer warranty on this sling. Inspect it before every use. We handle the claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
What model is this?
It is the Savaria Bariatric In-Situ Hammock Sling, made by Silvalea. Short tucks use M921527-1 and M921527-2. Long tucks use M921528-1 and M921528-2.
Is this a loop sling or a clip sling?
Loop. Loop straps on a bariatric loop carry bar. It does not use clip fasteners or Human Care E-clips.
What is the safe working load?
1200 lb (544 kg) on every size and both tuck styles. The finished system is limited by the lowest rating among the lift, the bar, and the sling.
Can the sling stay under the person?
Once the patient has been transferred, this sling can be left in-situ, subject to an appropriate risk assessment. Savaria also states it is suitable to be left in place for extended periods subject to risk assessment. The Silva-Spacer fabric is made to wick moisture, stay breathable, and help redistribute weight. A clinician should document that choice.
How is this different from the Deluxe Bariatric Sling?
The Deluxe Bariatric Sling is the 1200 lb polyester seated sling with short or long tucks. This hammock is the Silva-Spacer sibling: longer in the back, made to stay under the person after a risk assessment. We will keep you on the right card.
How is this different from the Hammock Sling?
The Handicare Hammock Sling is the standard Handicare hammock with built-in head support (8D and 5371 codes). This card is the Silvalea bariatric in-situ hammock (M921527 and M921528) with a 1200 lb rating and leave-in-place spacer fabric.
Which size should I order?
Use the Size 1 and Size 2 chart as a starting point, then confirm with a clinician or our staff before first use. There is a gap between the two sizes on body width. We will measure with you.
Short tucks or long tucks?
Short tucks add fullness in the main body from tucks in the back. Long tucks support extra weight below the waist. We will pick the style with you.
Does it fit a C625?
Yes, as a loop sling on the C-Series carry-bar hooks, when the person is inside the C625's 625 lb rating. For a higher working load, use the Handicare C-1000 or the Savaria M-Series Bariatric.
Which lift carries the sling's 1200 lb rating?
The Savaria M-Series Bariatric can be ordered at 1200 lb. That is the Westin ceiling motor that can carry this sling's full rating. Other bariatric loop lifts we sell are rated lower, so the pair is limited to the lift.
How do I wash it?
Wash at 95 C / 203 F with a non-biological detergent and tumble dry on low heat, maximum 50 C. Follow the label on the sling you receive. Inspect it after every wash.
Does funding cover a sling in Ontario?
Slings follow the funding path of the lift they are used with. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check the lift and the sling together.
