Description

The Axiom Custom Back is Ki Mobility's made-to-measure wheelchair back support for Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. Ki starts from the Axiom Back you already know and customizes width, height, foam, and cover through Kio. Frame widths and heights run 12 to 24 inches (30.5 to 61 cm). This is a quote-only custom back, built after a seating assessment.

Ki writes it as a simplified custom backrest for unique postural challenges. A seating therapist and an ADP authorizer choose the starting contour, the dimensions, and the DEX, BTX, or FXT mount with Westin before anything is ordered.

Who this back is for

The Axiom Custom Back fits a person whose therapist cannot land on a stock PB, PL, LB, or DL size or foam. Stay here when laterals, foam thickness, or cover material have to be specified, not guessed. A seating therapist should confirm Custom versus a stock Axiom PL Back or the planar Axiom CS system before you order.

  • 12 to 24 inch width and height
  • 1 to 4 inch optional foam
  • 300 lb (136 kg) with DEX or FXT, 400 lb (181 kg) with BTX

How a custom back is specified

Ki's sell sheet walks the order in three steps. First the therapist names a starting depth: Posterior 2.25 inches, Posterior Lateral about 3.75 inches on the sell sheet (the stock PL card prints 3.65 inches), or Deep Lateral 6 inches. Then they set back height and the left and right lateral heights and positions. Then they name DEX, BTX, or FXT. Extra choices on the sell sheet include foam type, foam thickness, cover material, lateral trunk supports, headrests, anterior thoracic supports, a lumbar pad, shoulder guides, a privacy flap, a coloured shell, and embroidery. Size limits may apply when the mobility base and the seating ship from Ki together.

DEX depth is 1.5 inches with 20 degrees of angle. BTX depth is 2 inches with 20 degrees of angle. FXT angle is 5 degrees. DEX and FXT clamp fasteners in the technical manual fit 3/4, 7/8, 1, and 1-1/8 inch back canes. BTX uses the 1 inch locking clamp. We do not invent a hardware or foam picker. A seating therapist names every line after measuring the person and the chair canes.

Axiom Custom Back specifications

These figures are from Ki Mobility's current Custom Back card, sell sheet DCN1202.0, and the Axiom Back owner's manual. The specification tab holds the stored values. We do not invent a size picker on this page.

Frame width 12 to 24 inches (30.5 to 61 cm). Height 12 to 24 inches (30.5 to 61 cm). Foam 1 to 4 inches (2.5 to 10.2 cm) optional. Height adjustability 3.3 inches. Width adjustability 2 inches. Depth 1.5 inches (DEX) to 2 inches (BTX). Angle 20 degrees (DEX and BTX) or 5 degrees (FXT). Assembled weight with DEX 3.00 to 8.54 lb (1.4 to 3.9 kg). Weight capacity 300 lbs (136 kg) with DEX or FXT hardware and 400 lbs (181 kg) with BTX.

The Axiom Back owner's manual prints 24 months on the shell and foam and 6 months on removable covers for the original purchaser in North America. Expected frame life is five years. Punctures, tears, and burns sit outside that term.

How a Custom Back is ordered

A seating therapist measures the torso, names the starting contour, and writes the custom dimensions. Westin enters that in Kio with hardware that matches the chair canes. That work happens in a fitting, not on a product page.

Which Axiom wheelchair back fits

The Axiom Custom Back is the made-to-measure shell. Stay on a stock page when a published size works: the Axiom PB Back at 2.25 inches, the Axiom PL Back or Axiom LB Back at 3.65 inches, or the Axiom DL Back at 6.0 inches. A full planar seat-and-back system is the Axiom CS Planar Seating System. The kids set is the Axiom PXPL, Axiom PXAL, and Axiom PXALCL.

Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario

This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers this wheelchair back support across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area once the shell is built. We bring it in, check the hardware against the chair canes, and show you the cover before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see an Axiom back first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased backs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

If the back is going outside the GTA, ask us for a shipping quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the back needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Ki Mobility Axiom warranty

The Axiom Back owner's manual prints 24 months on the shell and foam and 6 months on removable covers for the original purchaser in North America. Punctures, tears, and burns sit outside that term. Expected frame life is five years. We handle the warranty claim with you on units we sold.

Frequently asked questions

How Do I Choose A Wheelchair Back?

The Axiom Custom Back is chosen when a stock PB, PL, LB, or DL size or foam will not fit. A seating therapist writes the starting contour and the custom dimensions. Do not guess those numbers from a photo.

Is The Custom Back A Different Hardware Family?

The Axiom Custom Back uses the same DEX, BTX, and FXT mounts as the stock Axiom backs. Capacity still follows the mount: 300 lbs with DEX or FXT and 400 lbs with BTX.

Does ADP Cover Wheelchair Back Supports?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can help with a wheelchair cushion or back support after an ADP-registered therapist assessment with an eligible mobility device. Eligibility depends on the person. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.

What Foam Thicknesses Are Offered?

The Axiom Custom Back card prints optional foam from 1 to 4 inches. A seating therapist names the thickness. We do not invent a foam picker on this page.

Will An Axiom Back Fit My Wheelchair Canes?

DEX and FXT hardware in Ki's technical manual use clamp fasteners for 3/4, 7/8, 1, and 1-1/8 inch back canes. BTX uses the 1 inch locking clamp. Westin checks the chair canes before the order is placed.

What Are DEX, BTX, And FXT?

DEX, BTX, and FXT are Ki's three Axiom back mounts, not separate products. DEX has auto-resetting levers. BTX is the heavier, one-handed mount rated at 400 lb. FXT is the lightest fixed mount with 5 degrees of built-in angle. A seating therapist names the mount.

How Long Is The Axiom Back Warranty?

The Axiom Custom Back carries 24 months on the shell and foam and 6 months on removable covers in the Axiom Back owner's manual, for the original purchaser.

Can I See An Axiom Back In Brampton?

Westin Healthcare can show an Axiom back in the Brampton and Toronto stores and deliver across the GTA. Call (905) 451-7743 to check what is on the floor and to book an assessment.
