Types of Wheelchair Ramps
Threshold Ramps
Small ramps for doorway thresholds and small steps (1-3 inches). Affordable and easy to install.
Portable Folding Ramps
Lightweight, foldable ramps that can be moved and stored. Great for travel or temporary use. Available in lengths from 2-8 feet.
Modular Ramp Systems
Semi-permanent aluminum ramps that can be configured to fit your entrance. Includes handrails and can include turns and landings.
Permanent Wooden Ramps
Custom-built wooden ramps for permanent installation. Must meet Ontario Building Code requirements.
Ramp Requirements in Ontario
Proper wheelchair ramps should have:
- Slope no steeper than 1:12 (1 inch rise per 12 inches of length)
- Minimum 36-inch width (48 inches recommended)
- Handrails on both sides
- Non-slip surface
- Level landing at top and bottom
