Description

The Span America Geo-Mattress UltraMax for Stretchers is the stretcher-cut UltraMax: a 5 inch non-powered foam support surface built for transport, emergency, and procedural stretchers. Span America is a Savaria company. Westin Healthcare quotes it, delivers it, and fits it to the stretcher deck for hospitals and care teams in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

This is a reactive foam surface, not an air mattress and not a pump system. Span builds the seat from UHP 500 foam so the surface keeps supporting the person when the head of the stretcher is raised again and again. Every listed size is 5 inches tall and is rated up to 700 lb. The default on this page is 75 x 26 inches with a 7 inch head taper (47318).

This page is the stretcher line only. The bed-sized Span America Geo-Mattress UltraMax is a separate listing, cut for hospital and long-term care decks in 36, 39, and 42 inch widths.

Who this mattress is for

This surface is for a person who will spend time on a stretcher and whose care plan names UltraMax for Stretchers or a high-spec foam stretcher pad. Span writes it as a premium pressure-redistribution stretcher surface so the same foam ideas used on a full-sized hospital bed can sit on the narrower stretcher deck: emergency bays, procedural areas, radiology waits, and room-to-room transport.

It is for a stretcher frame whose sleep deck matches one of the printed footprints: 75 x 26, 76 x 26, 76 x 29, or 76 x 30 inches, or the two-piece Gynnie deck Span lists as 81921. It is not a replacement for a 36 inch hospital-bed mattress. If the therapist named the bed-sized Geo-Mattress UltraMax, use the bed UltraMax listing. If the care plan named Geo-Mattress 350, Plus, Pro, Max, HC, or Atlas, ask us to quote that Geo-Mattress tier. If the therapist named a PressureGuard air or convertible surface for the bed, we already sell PressureGuard Custom Care Convertible LAL, non-powered Custom Care, and Span-Care Convertible: ask us to quote the named model.

  • Emergency, transport, or procedural stretchers that need a 5 inch foam surface
  • A 26, 29, or 30 inch stretcher deck with a matching head or foot taper
  • A two-piece Gynnie stretcher deck that needs 81921

Construction and how it works

The seat section is UHP 500, a foam Span makes for UltraMax. Raising the head of the stretcher puts the highest load on that zone. Span gives UHP 500 a 55 percent higher support factor than the foams it compares it with, so the seat is built to resist bottoming out and to recover after each raise.

The top is a Geo-Matt segmented layer with individually articulating cells and Ring-of-Air channels. That geometry is there to cut shear, spread load, and let heat and moisture move out of the contact area. Under that top, 3-Dimensional Zoning sets different support through the surface so the person immerses where Span calibrated the core. The heel end is an extra-soft section so the heel can sink instead of sitting on a hard pad.

The cover is LifeSpan bi-directional stretch fabric with Shear Transfer Zone bands on the underside. Those silicone-coated bands are there to stop heels, sacrum, and scapula digging in. The zipper is a three-sided flapped zipper. The bottom is a non-slip panel with a universal hook and loop pattern: large alternating hook and loop areas so the surface can anchor to a wide variety of common stretcher models.

There is no pump in the carton and no hose to join. The surface works as soon as it is on the stretcher deck.

Stretcher Size

Use Stretcher Size to set the Span code. The default on this page is 75 x 26 in, 7 in head taper (47318). The picker lists:

  • 75 x 26 in, 7 in head taper (47318)
  • 75 x 26 in, 13 in head / 4 in foot taper (49297)
  • 76 x 26 in, 0 in head / 4 in foot taper (97107)
  • 76 x 26 in, 12 in head taper (10635)
  • 76 x 29 in, 10 in head / 8 in foot taper (46234)
  • 76 x 30 in, 13 in head taper (79012)
  • 2-pc Gynnie (81921)

H is the head-end taper length. F is the foot-end taper length. Measure the stretcher deck the same way Span does: overall length, overall width, then the diagonal cut at the head and at the foot. Send us the stretcher manufacturer and model number with those four numbers and we will match the code before we write the quote. 81921 is the two-piece Gynnie surface Span lists for a Gynnie-style deck.

Funding help for a therapeutic mattress in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds or mattresses, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this mattress across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, place it on the stretcher, and check the length, width, and tapers before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a surface first. For a scheduled setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased surfaces are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital mattresses are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the surface is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Which stretchers this surface fits

Span writes this line for a variety of common stretcher models and asks the facility to record the stretcher manufacturer and model number. Fit is by the printed deck size and the head and foot tapers. The bottom uses a universal hook and loop pattern so the same family can anchor to many stretcher frames once the size is right.

Span's current stretcher models on this page:

  • 47318: 75 x 26 in stretcher deck, 7 in head taper, no foot taper
  • 49297: 75 x 26 in stretcher deck, 13 in head taper, 4 in foot taper
  • 97107: 76 x 26 in stretcher deck, no head taper, 4 in foot taper
  • 10635: 76 x 26 in stretcher deck, 12 in head taper, no foot taper
  • 46234: 76 x 29 in stretcher deck, 10 in head taper, 8 in foot taper
  • 79012: 76 x 30 in stretcher deck, 13 in head taper, no foot taper
  • 81921: two-piece Gynnie stretcher surface

Every dimensioned size is 5 inches tall. If the deck is a 36, 39, or 42 inch hospital bed, that is the bed-sized Geo-Mattress UltraMax, not a stretcher code. When the person leaves the stretcher for a Span long-term care bed such as the Span America Encore, we size the bed mattress to that sleep deck. For a simpler foam step on a homecare bed, see the Gravity 9. See all medical mattresses if you are still choosing a surface.

Service and warranty

When something on the surface needs work, you call the shop that delivered it, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Span America manufacturer warranty

Span America's published warranty for the original purchaser is 3 years on the mattress and 2 years on the cover. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

Is UltraMax for Stretchers a foam mattress or an air mattress?

Foam. The core is zoned foam with a UHP 500 seat and a Geo-Matt segmented top. There is no air cylinder and no pump. That is why Span files it as a non-powered pressure-redistribution support surface.

How is this different from the bed-sized Geo-Mattress UltraMax?

This page is the stretcher line: 5 inches tall, up to 700 lb, 26 to 30 inch widths, hook-and-loop stretcher anchoring, and a 3-year mattress warranty. The bed-sized Geo-Mattress UltraMax is a separate listing for 36, 39, and 42 inch hospital decks, 6 inches tall, with its own UMX-29 codes and a longer mattress warranty. If the care plan named the bed UltraMax, use that page.

Which stretcher models does it fit?

Span lists sizes for the most commonly owned stretcher models and a universal hook and loop bottom for a wide variety of frames. The current models are 47318, 49297, 97107, 10635, 46234, 79012, and the 2-pc Gynnie 81921. We match the code to your stretcher's length, width, and head and foot tapers. Send the stretcher manufacturer and model number with those measurements and we will pick the row.

What is the 2-pc Gynnie?

81921 is the two-piece Gynnie surface Span lists on this card. Span does not print a length and width for that code. If your stretcher deck is the two-piece Gynnie style, that is the row to ask us about.

What is the weight rating?

Span lists up to 700 lb (318 kg) on this stretcher family. If the combined load is near that figure, ask us about a bariatric surface rather than stretching this one.

How tall is the stretcher UltraMax?

Five inches on every dimensioned size. Span prints that height so the person can immerse on a narrow stretcher deck. Typical thin stretcher pads sit lower; this line is the 5 inch UltraMax cut.

How do I clean the cover?

Wipe it with a hospital-grade cleaner. The cover is fluid-resistant and built for disinfectant wipe-down. Do not soak the surface. Call (905) 451-7743 if your infection-control team needs the written Span protocol.

Does UltraMax for Stretchers make pump noise?

No. There is no motor and no pump. The only sounds are the stretcher frame and the cover when the deck articulates.

What is the warranty on UltraMax for Stretchers?

Span lists 3 years on the mattress and 2 years on the cover for the original purchaser. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.

Can funding help pay for this mattress in Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds or mattresses. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community programs may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will point you to the right route before anyone starts paperwork.

Can I rent a surface like this before I buy?

Westin Healthcare rents hospital beds with a therapeutic medical mattress included. An UltraMax for Stretchers is not automatically that included surface. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will tell you what we can put in the facility this week.

What is included with UltraMax for Stretchers?

You get the Span America Geo-Mattress UltraMax for Stretchers in the Stretcher Size you pick, with the LifeSpan cover and the hook-and-loop bottom. A stretcher frame is not included. There is no pump to add. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets it on the stretcher across Brampton and the GTA.
