Description
The Travel Buggy Helix is a 4-wheel folding mobility scooter from the Canadian manufacturer Travel Buggy. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The person steers with a tiller, not a joystick. All four wheels pivot, so the scooter turns in a tighter circle than a typical 4-wheel travel scooter.
Travel Buggy's current Canadian card lists a 265 lb weight capacity, a 20 km (12.5 mile) range on the two 24V 5.8Ah packs, and a 6 km/h (3.7 mph) top speed. The scooter net weight is 55 lb. The card prints Airline Approved Battery. If you want a folding power chair instead of a tiller scooter, start with the Dash 3 or the Aerolux 2C.
Who this scooter is for
This scooter is for a person who wants a folding mobility scooter with 4-wheel stability, who fits the 15.75 by 14.75 inch seat, and who stays at or under Travel Buggy's 265 lb rating. Families usually call us when a take-apart travel scooter is too many lifts, or when they want a flat fold that stands up in a closet.
If you need Travel Buggy's 400 lb power-chair rating, see the City 2 Plus. If you want a 33 lb carbon power chair you lift like a suitcase, see the Aerolux 2C. The Helix is a mobility scooter, not a power wheelchair.
- 4-wheel pivot steering and a 37 inch turning radius
- 20 km printed range on two 24V 5.8Ah packs that switch automatically
- Flat One-Pull Fold, 55 lb net, 35 by 24 by 13.7 inches folded
Range, speed, and batteries
The Travel Buggy Helix travels up to 20 km (12.5 miles) per charge on the two Li-Ion 24 V / 5.8 Ah packs working together. Both packs sit under the seat. Travel Buggy says the scooter switches to the second pack on its own. Range changes with the person's weight, the ground, battery condition, and how much you stop and start.
Top speed is 6 km/h (3.7 mph). The charger Travel Buggy sells for this scooter is 24V / 2A, input 100-240V. Charge both packs with the charger that ships with the scooter. A spare 5.8Ah pack is sold separately.
Portability and transport
The Helix folds fully flat with Travel Buggy's One-Pull Fold. No take-apart. Folded size on the current card is 35 by 24 by 13.7 inches. The folded scooter can stand upright. A tow handle is built into the footrest so you can roll it. The tiller also folds flat.
Travel Buggy prints Airline Approved Battery on the Helix spec table. Air Canada and WestJet still set their own rules. Ask the airline before you book. We only repeat what Travel Buggy prints. The owner manual says not to treat the folded scooter as a vehicle seat.

Funding help for a mobility scooter in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a mobility scooter when the need is long-term and the scooter is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every scooter qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.
