Description
The Span America Advantage ReadyWide Bed MC7 with Floor Lock is Span America's expandable low bed, the MC7 Advantage ReadyWide platform. Span America is a Savaria company. Westin Healthcare supplies it, delivers it, and sets it up for long term care homes, retirement residences and private homes across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
Four motors move the height, the back, the knee and the clinical positions from an eleven function hand pendant, with a sixteen function foot end staff controller for lockouts and tilt. Span lists a floor to deck range of 7-7/8 inches to 31 inches, a 500 lb safe working load and a 350 lb maximum patient weight. ReadyWide takes the sleep surface from 35 inches to 39 inches, then to 42 inches, without tools.
What this model adds
Every Span order code is its own factory build, and this page is order code MC7WL. This model is Span's ReadyWide with the total floor lock and foot end controls. The red pedal drops the lock and immobilises the bed; the green pedal releases it. The mobility package is not part of this code.
- Total floor lock, set with the red pedal and released with the green pedal
- Foot end staff controls with lockouts
If a different combination suits the room better, the sibling codes below are the same bed with different factory options. Ask us and we will order the code that matches the care plan.
Who this bed is for
This bed is for a room where the width of the sleep surface may need to change, and where the deck has to come down low. Span writes the Advantage ReadyWide for long term care: a low bed design, Smart Stop, staff lockouts on the foot end controller, and integrated expanders that widen the surface without tools or an add-on kit.
Directors of care and purchasing coordinators call us when a resident's body shape or care plan needs more than a 35 inch surface some of the time. Families call when a therapist has named this platform. If you need a 600 lb safe working load or the GlideAlign retractable deck, see the Span America Encore. If you do not need width expansion at all, see the Span America Advantage or the Span America Rexx. For a simpler homecare package, start with the Drive Delta 1000.
- Long term care homes and retirement residences that want width on demand without a kit
- Private homes where a therapist has asked for a low bed with Smart Stop
- Rooms with narrow doorways, where the bed travels at 35 inches and widens once it is in place
What you get
The frame arrives in the factory build described above, with the ReadyWide expanders on the bed. The hand pendant runs everyday height, back, knee, auto contour and Comfort Chair. The foot end staff controller adds the lockouts, Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg and Comfort Chair. Smart Stop pauses lowering at 12.5 inches, and only the staff controller takes the deck the rest of the way down to 7-7/8 inches.
Head and foot boards, side rails and a mattress are quoted with the bed rather than included on this order code. Tell us the room and we will put the set together.
- Eleven function hand pendant and sixteen function foot end staff controller with lockouts
- ReadyWide two click expansion, 35 to 39 to 42 inches
- Smart Stop auto pause at 12.5 inches, with flashing under-bed indicators in the low zone
- Comfort Chair, Trendelenburg to 16 degrees, reverse Trendelenburg to 15 degrees, auto contour
- Four DC self lubricating linear actuators, IPX4 for the bed, IP54 or higher for the electrical components
- Trapezoidal slat deck, steel end and side mattress stops, vascular foot ratchet, baseboard bumper
- Heavy duty 3 in swivel casters, mobility at any height

The rest of the Advantage ReadyWide family at Westin
Span sells this bed as a set of factory builds rather than as one bed with an options list you tick at the end. Each code below is the same platform with a different combination fitted at the factory. Pick the one that matches the room and the care plan.
- Span America Advantage ReadyWide Bed MC7 with Mobility, order code MC7WM: mobility and foot end controls.
- Span America Advantage ReadyWide Bed MC7 with Mobility, Floor Lock and Under-Bed Lighting, order code MC7WMLB-L: mobility, floor lock and factory under-bed lighting, boxed.

Which rails, boards and accessories fit
Span lists these parts against the Advantage ReadyWide: a set of three position molded pivot assist rails (R9959), molded head end half side rails as a set (R9308H) or singly (R9308H-L and R9308H-R), a split side rail (R9519), the floor placement arm (Q6740), the retractable power cord cable reel with placement arm (Q6741), the trapeze bar with chain and hand grip (Q6730) and its bed mounting bracket (Q6731), the bed and deck angle indicator (Q6703), the bed transportation system (Q6699), the honeycomb roller bumper kit (Q6531) and an I.V. pole (BS79). Under-bed lighting and the backup battery are factory fitted options rather than field kits.
We already stock the Lincoln 40 inch and 43 inch head and foot board sets made for the Advantage ReadyWide, and the three position pivot assist set for Encore and Advantage ReadyWide. Boards come in the Standard and Lincoln melamine profiles and the Lethbridge and Trenton Elite HPL profiles, in Valley Oak, Candle Light, Hardrock Maple, Summer Flame and Choco. Valley Oak is a standard board finish only. Match the board width to the width you will run: the 40 inch pair suits the 39 inch position and the 43 inch pair suits the 42 inch position.
A mattress is not included. Size it to the deck you will run and to the length you order. Span asks for a properly sized mattress with firm borders so the person cannot be trapped between the mattress and the rail. We fit therapeutic surfaces in these sizes; see medical mattresses and our bed rails range, or browse all long term care beds.
Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.
Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Span America manufacturer warranty
Span's limited warranty for the original purchaser is 15 years on the frame, 15 years on all welds in the steel structure, 5 years on electrical components (the control box and the actuators), and 1 year on batteries, hand pendants, foot end controllers, cables, parts subject to wear, and bed accessories. Labour is not covered by Span. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.
Frequently asked questions
Does OHIP cover hospital beds?
No. Hospital beds in Ontario are not covered by OHIP. Depending on the person, March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, or a community support program may still help. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will check which path fits before anyone starts paperwork.
Does ADP cover hospital beds in Ontario?
No. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. The funding page lists the programs Westin Healthcare works with, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.
What is included with order code MC7WL?
You get the Span America Advantage ReadyWide frame in this factory build: total floor lock and foot end controls. The hand pendant and the foot end staff controller come with the bed, and the ReadyWide expanders are on the frame. Head and foot boards, side rails, and a mattress are quoted with the bed rather than included on this code. Call (905) 451-7743 and we will build the room around it.
How is this different from the Span America Encore?
Both are Span low beds that lower to 7-7/8 inches, expand with ReadyWide and pause at Smart Stop. The Span America Encore adds the GlideAlign retractable deck, a 600 lb safe working load, a 450 lb maximum patient weight, Cardiac Care positioning and under-bed lighting as standard. The Advantage ReadyWide has a 500 lb safe working load, a 350 lb maximum patient weight, and a fixed deck.
How does the ReadyWide width expansion work?
The expanders are already on the frame. Press both spring buttons and slide the expander out: one click gives 39 inches and a second click gives 42 inches, from a 35 inch deck. Span's warning is to set every expander piece to the same width so the extension is equal on both sides, and to fit a mattress and extension pads sized to that width so there are no entrapment gaps.
What is Smart Stop?
Smart Stop pauses the bed automatically as the deck comes down to 12.5 inches from the floor. That is Span's egress height, where the person can sit with a roughly 90 degree entry and exit angle. Going below that point into the low height zone is a foot end staff control action, not something the hand pendant can do on its own.
What is the weight capacity of this bed?
Span lists a 500 lb (227 kg) safe working load. That figure covers the person plus the mattress, the boards, the rails and anything else on the bed. Span lists a separate maximum patient weight of 350 lb (159 kg) for the person alone. If the person's own weight is near or over that figure, ask us about a bariatric hospital bed instead of stretching this frame.
What mattress fits this bed?
A mattress is not included. Size it to the length you order and the width you will actually run: 76 inches or 80 inches long, by 35, 39 or 42 inches wide. Span asks for a properly sized mattress with firm borders so the person cannot be trapped between the mattress and the rail, and points to the FDA entrapment guidelines. We stock therapeutic surfaces in these sizes, including the Geo-Mattress 350 and the Geo-Mattress Max; see all medical mattresses. Ask your therapist before you pick an alternating pressure or low air loss surface.
Can a backup battery be added to this bed?
Span lists a backup battery for the standard ReadyWide as option Q6701, fitted at the factory rather than in the field, so it has to be specified when the bed is ordered. This order code does not carry it. Call (905) 451-7743 before you order if the room needs the bed to move during a power cut.
Can I rent a hospital bed before buying?
Westin Healthcare rents standard full-electric hospital beds with side rails and a therapeutic mattress. See current packages on the hospital bed rentals page. This Span bed itself is a purchase item. If you later buy, ask about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program and we will apply the program rules to the bed you keep.
How fast can a hospital bed be delivered in the GTA?
Westin's team delivers and sets up purchased beds across Brampton and the GTA on a scheduled date. Call (905) 451-7743 for the next opening. Same-day delivery belongs to the hospital bed rental service, not automatically to a purchased bed.
What is the warranty on this bed?
Span's limited warranty for the original purchaser is 15 years on the frame, 15 years on all welds in the steel structure, 5 years on electrical components, which Span defines as the control box and the actuators, and 1 year on batteries, hand pendants, foot end controllers, cables, parts subject to wear and bed accessories. Labour is not covered by Span. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work on our service and repairs page.
Where can I see one of these beds?
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area, and the Brampton showroom on Fisherman Drive is the full one for beds. If getting to a store is the hard part, book a free home assessment and a consultant will measure the room and leave a written quote. Related platforms are the Span America Advantage Bed and the rest of our hospital beds range.
