Description
The Sophia 4 is Orthex Canada Inc.'s Class I medical bed for home, sold here as the Sophia 4 Premium Homecare Bed Double. Westin Healthcare sells it, delivers it, and sets it up for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. The wireless remote raises the head section, raises the foot section, adds up to 4 inches of lumbar support, raises and lowers the whole deck, and tilts the sleep surface into Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg.
This is a residential-look homecare bed on lockable casters, not a 36 inch hospital frame. Double is 54 by 74 inches and is rated to 900 lbs. The deck sits about 12 inches from the floor at the low position and about 30 inches at the high position. A mattress, side rails, and a headboard or footboard are chosen on this page and are not inside the frame price.
Who this bed is for
This bed is for a person who needs hospital-level positioning at home and still wants the bed to look like furniture. Families usually call us when someone is coming home from hospital, when transfers have become hard on a regular bed, or when a caregiver needs the deck at working height and a lift needs clear space under the frame.
If the person only wants head, foot, and lumbar, and does not need the whole deck to rise and fall, see the Sophia 2 Premium Homecare Bed. If you want a residential hi-low without Trendelenburg, see the Harmony Hi-Low bed. If you want a traditional 36 inch full-electric hospital package, start with the Drive Delta 1000.
- Home care that needs hi-low, Trendelenburg, and lift access in a bedroom that should not look like a ward
- Caregivers who need the deck at a safer working height
- Anyone who wants a Canadian-made Class I medical bed with lithium battery backup and a lifetime frame warranty
What you get
The Sophia 4 is a multi-position fully electric base. Multi-position here means independent head and foot, powered height, lumbar, and whole-bed tilt. Lockable casters are part of the frame. Orthex rates this Double size at 7 motors.
The price on this page is the frame. CHOOSE MATTRESS is required: the Sensia Bamboo Double comes up preselected, and every mattress price adds on top of the frame. CHOOSE SIDE RAILS and CHOOSE HEADBOARD AND FOOTBOARD are optional.
- Wireless backlit remote for head, foot, lumbar, height, Trendelenburg, reverse Trendelenburg, vibro-massage, and under-bed lighting
- 7 motors on a reinforced frame that rolls on lockable casters
- Water-resistant grey-mix platform cover
- Lithium battery backup included, so essential functions still work in an outage
- Full underbed clearance for many patient lifts
- About 12 inches low to about 30 inches high
- Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg up to 16 degrees
- Head up to 68 degrees, foot up to 9 inches, lumbar up to 4 inches
Sophia 4 Premium Homecare Bed Double specifications
These figures are for the current Orthex Sophia 4 medical bed for home, the Double size this page sells. The specification tab holds the stored values. Orthex's current product page lists a Double deck of 54 by 74 by 12 inches, weight capacity 900 lbs, height adjustment up to 30 inches, Trendelenburg up to 16 degrees, and reverse Trendelenburg up to 16 degrees.
Head travel is up to 68 degrees. Foot elevation is up to 9 inches. Lumbar lift is up to 4 inches. Under-bed clearance is 6 inches. Support type is lockable casters. Warranty for a base bought from an authorized Orthex retailer is 3 years from the date of purchase on electrical issues, and lifetime from the date of purchase on the structure (frame).
How to choose the size
This listing is the Double. Orthex also builds the Sophia 4 as the Twin XL 38 by 80 inches and the Queen 60 by 80 inches. Twin XL is the usual homecare width because it leaves walk-around room. Double is the shorter 74 inch deck for a smaller room. Queen is the 60 by 80 inch deck for two, or for one person who wants more sleep space. Orthex does not sell the Sophia 4 as a Split King.
Mattress, rails, and bed ends
Use CHOOSE MATTRESS to add the surface that flexes with this base. The Sensia Bamboo Double is a 10 inch foam mattress with a bamboo knit cover. The Sensia Waterproof Double is a 6 inch homecare mattress with a waterproof membrane cover. Semi-firm is the same price as Firm at the manufacturer; tell us if you want semi-firm when we book delivery. A stiff innerspring that cannot bend will fight the motors. A box spring is not used.
CHOOSE SIDE RAILS adds Orthex's official kits: fixed 16.5 by 20 inches, retractable short 28 by 22 inches, or retractable long 58 by 22 inches. Rails help a person sit up or stay aware of the edge. They are not a restraint and they are not a handle for getting in or out of bed.
CHOOSE HEADBOARD AND FOOTBOARD adds the official pale grey waterproof kit for this width (headboard 30 inches high, footboard 20 inches high, both 4 inches thick). See the Double kit.
Funding help for a hospital bed in Ontario
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds. OHIP does not cover them either. Depending on the person, other programs may help, including March of Dimes, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community support programs.
Westin Healthcare works with these funding programs every week. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the contact page and we will check which programs fit your situation before any paperwork starts. The funding page lists the programs we work with.
Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA
Westin's own team delivers and sets up this bed across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the hand control before we leave.
We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bed first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased beds are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.
Hospital beds are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the bed is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.
Can I rent a hospital bed before I buy?
Yes. If you only need the bed for a recovery, or you want to live with a full-electric bed before you buy, rent first. Hospital bed rentals start from $150 a month. See current packages and rates on hospital bed rentals in Brampton.
Rental packages include side rails and a therapeutic medical mattress. For rentals we offer same-day delivery in Brampton, Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga, and next-day delivery for other areas, with one day of notice. The shortest rental term is one month.
If you later decide to buy, ask us about the Rental to Purchase First Month Credit program (an active Westin loyalty program). The rentals hub and rental program FAQs have the program rules.
Service, repairs, and warranty
When something on the bed needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a US parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.
Orthex manufacturer warranty
Orthex Canada Inc. warrants this adjustable base, from the date of purchase, for 3 years against electrical issues and for life on the structure (frame). If Orthex approves the deficiency, the base is replaced by the same model or its equivalent. Claims go to Orthex with proof of purchase from an authorized retailer. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

What is the difference between the Sophia 2 and the Sophia 4?
The Sophia 2 is a two-position base on legs: head, foot, and lumbar, with no powered height and no Trendelenburg. The Sophia 4 adds hi-low height, Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg up to 16 degrees, lockable casters, and full underbed clearance for lifts.
How low does the Sophia 4 go?
Orthex lists a low position of about 12 inches from the floor and a raised position of about 30 inches. The official specification prints height adjustment up to 30 inches.
Can I use a patient lift with the Sophia 4?
Yes. Orthex designs the Sophia 4 with full underbed clearance and an open frame so many patient lift systems can pass under the bed. Confirm the lift footprint with us before we deliver.
What mattress fits the Sophia 4 Double?
Fit the mattress to this deck: 54 by 74 inches. Orthex pairs the Sensia Bamboo and Sensia Waterproof mattresses with this base. Foam, latex, and flexible hybrid mattresses that can bend with the motors are the usual fit. A box spring is not used.
Are the lockable casters included?
Yes. Lockable casters are the support type on the Sophia 4. They are not a paid extra on this page.
Is the Sophia 4 a medical device?
Yes. Orthex classifies the Sophia 4 as a Class I medical device designed for homecare.
Does the Sophia 4 work during a power outage?
Yes. Lithium battery backup is included, so essential bed functions remain available during an outage while the pack holds a charge.
What sizes does the Sophia 4 come in?
Twin XL 38 by 80 inches, Double 54 by 74 inches, and Queen 60 by 80 inches. Orthex does not sell a Sophia 4 Split King.
