Description
The Invacare Matrx Vi Cushion is a three-part foam wheelchair cushion with a molded visco-elastic insert under the sitting bones. Motion Concepts designs it for skin protection and positioning for people at moderate to high risk of skin breakdown. Westin Healthcare delivers and sets it up across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
This is the Matrx Vi / Visco article. It is not the Matrx Libra fluid cushion, and it is not the Matrx PSP polymer overlay.
Who this cushion is for
The Matrx Vi cushion is for a wheelchair user who needs a prefabricated foam seat with extra immersion at the ischial and sacral area. Motion Concepts rates the standard Vi 300 lb (136 kg). A seating therapist should confirm the size. This page does not give clinical positioning advice.
How it is built
Motion Concepts builds Vi from a soft high-resilient foam top, a molded visco ischial relief insert, and a firm high-resilient foam base. The top has a pre-ischial contour and abductor/adductor shaping. The base has a trochanteric shelf, a waterfall front, and a rear radius that follows sling upholstery. The Meshtex outer cover is moisture resistant and breathable. The inner cover wipes clean.
Invacare Matrx Vi specifications
These figures are from the Motion Concepts Matrx Vi user manual and the current Canadian order form, accessed 2026-09-10.
Height about 3.75 in at the adductor, 3.25 in at the abductor, 2.5 in in the leg trough. Standard capacity 300 lb (136 kg). Cover Meshtex outer with a moisture-resistant inner, slip-resistant base, lifting strap, and hook and loop. Warranty 2 years. Stated width is 1/2 in wider than the foam; stated depth is 1 1/2 in shorter than the foam because of the rear radius.
This Westin card sells Seat Width 16, 18, 20, and 22 in and Seat Depth 16, 18, 20, and 22 in as they sit in ERP. Motion Concepts lists standard Vi widths 14, 16, 18, 20, and 22 in with depths 15 to 20 in. Confirm the size with a seating therapist before you order.

Funding help for a wheelchair cushion or back support in Ontario
This cushion or back support is an ADP positioning device category item. Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of positioning devices such as cushions and back supports when they are prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist with an eligible mobility device, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every product qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

How Do I Choose Between Gel, Foam, And Air Cushions for the Invacare Matrx Vi Cushion?
The Matrx Vi cushion is foam with a visco insert and no cells to set. Gel cushions have no inflation path. Air cushions such as Vicair Adjuster O2 use compartments you can set. Ask the seating therapist which medium fits the assessment.
Does ADP Cover the Invacare Matrx Vi Cushion?
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program can help with a wheelchair cushion or back support after an ADP-registered therapist assessment, when the seating is required with an eligible mobility device. Eligibility depends on the person and the device. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.
