Description
The Hugo Ergonomic Derby Handle Cane with Claw Tip is Drive Medical's 731-459 Rosebud cane: a derby handle, an anodized aluminum shaft, and Hugo's three-point Claw tip. Drive prints 12 push-button height settings, a fit for most people 5 to 6 ft 5 in, and a 300 lb rating. Westin Healthcare sells it and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. This is not a four-foot quad cane.
Drive writes that the Claw tip recenters itself, is 57 percent lighter than a QuadPod, and lets the cane stand on its own. Drive also writes that the claw tip is compatible with the Ice-O-Grip accessory, sold separately.
Who this cane is for
The Hugo 731-459 is for a person who wants a derby handle, a self-standing Claw tip instead of a four-foot K-style base, stays at or under Drive's 300 lb rating, and fits Drive's 5 to 6 ft 5 in band. Families here usually call when a single rubber tip feels light and a full quad base feels bulky.
Drive writes that the cushioned derby is ideal for those with arthritis. That is Drive's sentence, not a diagnosis. Westin does not give medical advice.
- Ergonomic derby handle with a cushioned grip (Drive)
- Hugo Claw tip, self standing, Ice-O-Grip compatible
- 12 height settings, 300 lb, cane strap with reflective patch
Fit and height
Drive prints 12 push-button height settings and a fit for most people 5 to 6 ft 5 in. Drive does not print a hole-by-hole inch table on the current 731-459 sheet.
Stand upright in the shoes you will walk in, with your arms relaxed. Set the handle at your wrist crease so your elbow stays slightly bent when you hold on. Come into a Brampton or Toronto store if you want that height checked on the floor.
Handle, claw tip, and strap
The handle is a derby with a cushioned grip. Drive writes that the grip helps absorb shocks. A cane strap with a reflective patch is included.
The tip is Hugo's Claw, not a four-foot K-style plate. Drive writes that it recenters itself and that the cane stands on its own. The claw is compatible with Ice-O-Grip, sold separately. The Airgo Claw Standing Cane Tip is a different maker's claw, sold as a replacement tip, not as this cane.
