Description

The Quantum Outback is a 4x4 all-terrain power wheelchair from Quantum Rehab. Westin Healthcare configures it to prescription and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

This is a prescription rehab base, not a stock cart chair. Quantum Rehab's current spec sheet rates the Outback at 300 lbs on TRU-Balance 3 power positioning (350 lbs on Q-Captain seating), up to 5 mph (6 mph optional), a 49.2 inch turning radius, and a 28.82 inch base. Four-wheel independent drive and Smooth Ride Suspension are the outdoor package. A therapist assessment comes first.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who needs a rugged outdoor power base, four-wheel independent drive, and who is within Quantum's 300 lb TRU-Balance 3 rating (350 lbs on Q-Captain). Families usually call us when trails, grass, and uneven ground matter more than a tight indoor turn, and when Group 27 batteries and 15 inch pneumatic drive wheels are on the plan.

If you want a front-wheel Type 3 for mixed indoor and outdoor use, start with the Quantum 4Front 2. If you want a mid-wheel Type 3 for indoor manoeuvring, see the Quantum Edge 3. The Outback is not a folding travel chair.

  • 4-motor independent drive, 4x4 outdoor base
  • Independent Smooth Ride Suspension, 28.82 inch base, 49.2 inch turning radius
  • Group 27 batteries, 15 inch pneumatic drive wheels

Design and build

Quantum builds the Outback as a four-wheel independent-drive base with Smooth Ride Suspension. Drive wheels are 15 inch pneumatic. Ground clearance is 4.92 inches at the motors. The current product page lists a full switch-operated LED lighting package as standard. The drivetrain is four motors with regenerative and electromechanical brakes. The chair does not fold.

TRU-Balance 3 power positioning and Q-Captain seating are the manufacturer families on the spec sheet, with different weight ratings. A therapist and Westin complete seating, electronics, and accessories on the Quantum order form. Do not treat this page as a finished chair.

Quantum Outback specifications

These figures are for the Outback as printed on Quantum Rehab's current spec sheet (Rev A, June 2024). The specification tab holds the stored values.

Weight capacity 300 lbs on TRU-Balance 3 power positioning, 350 lbs on Q-Captain seating. Maximum speed up to 5 mph, or up to 6 mph optional. Ground clearance 4.92 inches at the motors. Turning radius 49.2 inches. Overall length 42 inches without foot riggings. Base width 28.82 inches. Base weight 168.6 lbs. Batteries Group 27, 58.6 lbs each. Charger 8 amp off-board. Range up to 16 miles at 300 lbs, or up to 17 miles at 220 lbs, on that sheet. Obstacle climbing 4.0 inches. Maximum rated slope 8 degrees.

Warranty for a Canadian purchaser follows Quantum's Canada insert: lifetime limited on the main frame and fixed-position seat post, 2 years on electronics, motors, actuators, and accessories, 6 months on bearings, and 12 months on Quantum-supplied batteries.

Configuration

The therapist and Westin complete seating, electronics, and power functions on the Quantum order form after assessment. The spec sheet splits capacity by seating family: stay at or under 300 lbs on TRU-Balance 3 power positioning, or 350 lbs on Q-Captain. If a size you need is not a starting option, ask us. We will write it on the form.

Do not treat a colour or size choice as a finished chair. This power base is configured after assessment.

Funding help for a power wheelchair in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a power wheelchair when the need is long-term and the chair is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every chair qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

After the chair is approved and built to the prescription, Westin's own team delivers and sets it up across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the joystick, charger, and seating functions before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see an outdoor power chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

This power wheelchair is oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Quantum manufacturer warranty

Quantum's current Canada insert is lifetime limited on the main frame and fixed-position seat post, 2 years on electronics, motors, actuators, and accessories, 6 months on bearings and bushings, and 12 months on Quantum-supplied batteries. Wear items such as tyres, shrouds, and upholstery are outside that term. We handle the claim with you.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Outback a folding travel chair?

No. It is a full-size 4x4 rehab base, 28.82 inches wide and 42 inches long without riggings, with a 168.6 lb base before batteries on the spec sheet.

What is the weight capacity?

Quantum lists 300 lbs on TRU-Balance 3 power positioning and 350 lbs on Q-Captain seating. Stay at or under the rating that matches the seating on the order.

How tight does it turn?

Quantum prints a 49.2 inch turning radius. That is a larger circle than a mid-wheel Edge. If indoor corners are the priority, start with the Edge 3.

What batteries does it use?

Group 27, 58.6 lbs each on the spec sheet. Charger is 8 amp off-board.

Does ADP cover the Outback?

Not every power base is an ADP-listed device. Quantum's US sheet prints HCPCS K0899 (not coded by DME PDAC). An ADP-registered OT or PT has to confirm the current Ontario row before anyone treats this as a funded device. Do not order before that conversation.

Who qualifies for ADP funding in general?

In general you must be an Ontario resident with a valid health card and a disability that needs a mobility aid for 6 months or longer. An ADP-registered OT or PT has to assess you first. We cannot promise that a specific person will qualify.

What is the assessment process?

An ADP-registered OT or PT examines the person, helps complete the application, and works with Westin on the configuration. Do not order before those steps if funding is part of the plan.

Can I try an Outback first?

Call (905) 451-7743 and ask what is on the floor. A floor chair is a starting point. The finished chair is built to the prescription.

What is the top speed?

Up to 5 mph on the spec sheet, with 6 mph optional. Terrain, user weight, and tyre condition change that figure.

What is the warranty?

Lifetime frame, 2 years electronics and motors, 12 months Quantum batteries, on the Canada insert. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

Will it climb a curb?

Quantum prints a 4.0 inch maximum obstacle climbing ability on the spec sheet. That is not a promise for every curb or every seating setup. The therapist and Westin will talk through the ground you actually use.
