Description

The Quantum 1450 is a front-wheel bariatric power wheelchair from Quantum Rehab. Westin Healthcare configures it to prescription and delivers it for homes in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

This is a prescription rehab base, not a stock cart chair. Quantum Rehab's current spec sheet rates the 1450 at 600 lbs, up to 4.9 mph, a 26.5 inch turning radius, and a 29.25 inch base. Front-wheel drive and swing-arm suspension are the outdoor and heavy-duty package. A therapist assessment comes first.

Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who needs a bariatric front-wheel power base, seating that can change as needs change, and who is within Quantum's 600 lb rating. Families usually call us when a 450 lb Edge HD or 4Front 2 HD is not enough capacity, and when a 29.25 inch base and Group 24 batteries are on the plan.

If 450 lbs on a front-wheel base is enough, start with the Quantum 4Front 2 HD. If 450 lbs on a mid-wheel is a better match, see the Quantum Q6 Edge HD. The 1450 is not a folding travel chair.

  • Front-wheel drive bariatric base, 600 lb capacity
  • 29.25 inch base, 26.5 inch turning radius
  • Group 24 batteries, 4-pole motors

Design and build

Quantum builds the 1450 as a front-wheel bariatric base with swing-arm suspension and 4-pole motors. Drive wheels are 14 inch solid. Rear casters are 9 inch solid. Anti-tip wheels are 4 inch solid on the live spec page. The current product page says the 1450 accepts a complete range of rehab seating and electronics. Electronics on that spec page include 90 amp VR2 6-key, 120 amp Q-Logic 3, and 120 amp Q-Logic 3e. Specialty controls can be ordered. The chair does not fold.

TRU-Balance 2 HD tilt is the manufacturer seating family on the current spec page. Official widths run 20 to 32 inches on Synergy, static, and power tilt. Lift and tilt is listed as not available on that sheet.

Quantum 1450 specifications

These figures are for the Quantum 1450 as printed on Quantum Rehab's current spec sheet (Rev H, April 2023) and the live spec page. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Weight capacity 600 lbs. Maximum speed up to 4.9 mph. Ground clearance 1.5 inches at the anti-tip wheels. Turning radius 26.5 inches. Overall length 38.25 inches without front riggings. Base width 29.25 inches. Base weight 195 lbs. Batteries Group 24, 52 lbs each. Charger 8 amp off-board. Range up to 16.5 miles on that sheet. Maximum rated slope 7.5 degrees. Obstacle climbing 2.25 inches.

Warranty for a Canadian purchaser follows Quantum's Canada insert: lifetime limited on the main frame and fixed-position seat post, 2 years on electronics, motors, actuators, and accessories, 6 months on bearings, and 12 months on Quantum-supplied batteries.

Configuration

The therapist and Westin complete TRU-Balance 2 HD seating, electronics, and power functions on the Quantum order form after assessment. Official seating on the current spec page starts at 20 inches wide and runs to 32 inches. If a size you need is not a starting option, ask us. We will write it on the form.

Do not treat a colour or size choice as a finished chair. This power base is configured after assessment.

Funding help for a power wheelchair in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) can fund 75% of the cost of a power wheelchair when the need is long-term and the chair is prescribed through an assessment by an ADP-registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist, and some income-support programs cover the full cost. Not every chair qualifies, so talk to us before you buy. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs can also help. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

After the chair is approved and built to the prescription, Westin's own team delivers and sets it up across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, assemble it, and show you the joystick, charger, and seating functions before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a bariatric power chair first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our rental service; purchased chairs are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

This power wheelchair is oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the chair is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Service and warranty

When something on the chair needs work, you call the shop that set it up, not a distant parts desk. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Quantum manufacturer warranty

Quantum's current Canada insert is lifetime limited on the main frame and fixed-position seat post, 2 years on electronics, motors, actuators, and accessories, 6 months on bearings and bushings, and 12 months on Quantum-supplied batteries. Wear items such as tyres, shrouds, and upholstery are outside that term. We handle the claim with you.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 1450 a folding travel chair?

No. It is a full-size bariatric front-wheel rehab base, 29.25 inches wide and 38.25 inches long without riggings, with a 195 lb base before batteries on the spec sheet.

What is the weight capacity?

Quantum lists 600 lbs. Capacity also depends on the seating on the order. Stay at or under that rating.

How is this different from the 4Front 2 HD?

The 4Front 2 HD is a 450 lb front-wheel Type 3 (400 lbs with the 10 inch lift) on a 24.3 inch base. The 1450 is a 600 lb bariatric front-wheel base, 29.25 inches wide, with TRU-Balance 2 HD seating up to 32 inches wide. A therapist decides which base fits the person and the home.

Does ADP cover the 1450?

Bariatric power bases can be ADP devices when they sit on the current Mobility Devices Product Manual. We do not print a device code on this page until the authorizer confirms the current row. An ADP-registered OT or PT has to assess the need first.

Who qualifies for ADP funding in general?

In general you must be an Ontario resident with a valid health card and a disability that needs a mobility aid for 6 months or longer. An ADP-registered OT or PT has to assess you first. We cannot promise that a specific person will qualify.

What is the assessment process?

An ADP-registered OT or PT examines the person, helps complete the application, and works with Westin on the configuration. Do not order before those steps if funding is part of the plan.

Can I try a 1450 first?

Call (905) 451-7743 and ask what is on the floor. A floor chair is a starting point. The finished chair is built to the prescription.

What batteries does it use?

Group 24, 52 lbs each on the spec sheet. Charger is 8 amp off-board.

What is the top speed?

Up to 4.9 mph on the Quantum 1450 spec sheet. User weight, terrain, and tyre condition change that figure.

What is the warranty?

Lifetime frame, 2 years electronics and motors, 12 months Quantum batteries, on the Canada insert. Westin Healthcare processes the claim.

What if the prescription includes power tilt?

Ontario treats power dynamic tilt and/or recline as high technology. Those chairs are bought through the Central Equipment Pool. Your therapist will say if that path applies.
