Description

The Span America PressureGuard Custom Care Convertible is a 7 inch air-and-foam therapy mattress. Span America is a Savaria company. Westin Healthcare quotes it, delivers it, and sets it on the bed for homes and care sites in Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

This page is the Custom Care Convertible only. The Star Chamber air cylinders stay filled whether or not a pump is attached. Use it as a non-powered surface, then add Span's 6500 control unit when the care plan asks for alternating pressure or lateral rotation. Span lists a 500 lb limit in non-powered mode and a 350 lb limit in powered mode. If a clinician has named Custom Care Convertible LAL, non-powered Custom Care, Span-Care Convertible, or a PressureGuard APM surface, ask us for that model. Those are separate Span surfaces.

Who this mattress is for

This mattress is for a person on a 36 or 42 inch healthcare sleep deck whose therapist has named the PressureGuard Custom Care Convertible, and whose weight stays within Span's 500 lb non-powered rating, or 350 lb if the 6500 control unit will run. Span writes it for treatment of Stage 1-4 pressure injuries, for a person who cannot or will not change position often, and for prevention when the person is at high risk.

Span writes that this surface is not for a person with an unstable spinal cord injury. If the care plan names that condition, we will quote a different Span surface. Families and directors of care usually call us when they want a non-powered air-and-foam mattress now, with the option to hang a pump later, without moving to a low-air-loss coverlet.

Construction and how it works

The Custom Care Convertible is a convertible air-and-foam mattress. Inside the foam shell, Star Chamber cylinders run from head to foot and stay filled with air. Cross-connected elasticized reservoirs take the peaks so the surface can mimic flotation even when no pump is plugged in. The Geo-Matt top is cut into more than 800 cells so each one can follow the person's shape. Safety Edge bolsters hold the edge for transfers. Heel Slope tapers the foot end.

The cover is Span's LifeSpan coated stretch fabric with Shear Transfer Zones on the underside. Those silicone-coated bands help the heels, sacrum, and scapula sit without digging in, and they help the person glide back after the head of the bed is raised. Wipe the cover in place. Span names phenolic or quaternary hospital-grade disinfectants. Do not use harsh solvents. Seven-inch fitted sheets are the linen Span recommends.

When you add the 6500 control unit, four air lines click into the foot-end port. The unit hangs on the footboard. Powered modes are alternating pressure and lateral rotation, plus Auto Firm for care and transfers. Comfort Level has five settings. Disconnect mode returns the air system to its non-powered setting when you take the pump away. This mattress does not include a low-air-loss coverlet. That is the Custom Care Convertible LAL we already stock.

Span America PressureGuard Custom Care Convertible specifications

These figures are for the Custom Care Convertible in CJ753629, CJ803629, CJ843629, 26130, 95724, and recessed-deck CJ85V29. They are not the LAL, non-powered Custom Care, or Span-Care figures. The specification tab holds the stored values.

Span lists a 500 lb weight limit in non-powered mode and a 350 lb limit in powered mode, a 7 inch height, and an approximate 24 lb mattress weight. Widths are 36 and 42 inches. Lengths are 75, 80, and 84 inches on the flat-deck codes. The 6500 control unit is 14 by 10 by 5 inches and weighs 8.8 lb. It uses 120 V at 60 Hz, 0.4 A, and is certified to IEC 60601-1. Warranty is 5 years on the mattress, 2 years on the cover, and 2 years on the control unit. Fire and life-safety markings are NFPA 101 (ASTM E1590), Cal TB 117, and 16 CFR 1632 and 1633.

Size options

Use Choose Mattress Size. Every row is 7 inches high. The default on this page is 80 in L x 36 in W x 7 in H (CJ803629).

  • 75 in L x 36 in W x 7 in H (CJ753629)
  • 80 in L x 36 in W x 7 in H (CJ803629)
  • 84 in L x 36 in W x 7 in H (CJ843629)
  • 80 in L x 42 in W x 7 in H (26130)
  • 84 in L x 42 in W x 7 in H (95724)
  • Recessed deck frames (CJ85V29)

Match length and width to the sleep deck, not to the outside of the bed frame. Recessed-deck frames take CJ85V29, which Span cuts with V-shaped edges and a compressible foot section. The 6500 control unit is quoted with the room when the care plan asks for powered therapy. If the therapist named Custom Care Convertible LAL, non-powered Custom Care, or Span-Care Convertible, ask us for that surface instead of picking a size here.

Funding help for a therapeutic mattress in Ontario

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program (ADP) does not cover hospital beds or mattresses, so plan around other routes. Funding that may help instead: March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and community programs. Westin Healthcare's staff work with these programs every week and will point you to the right route for your situation. Visit our funding page or call (905) 451-7743 to talk it through before you buy.

Delivery and setup in Brampton and the GTA

Westin's own team delivers and sets up this mattress across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area. We bring it in, place it on the bed, and show you the cover, the air port, and the 6500 control unit if you ordered one before we leave.

We have three stores in the Brampton and Toronto area if you would rather see a mattress first. For a scheduled in-home setup, call (905) 451-7743 and we will book the next date that works. Same-day delivery is offered through our hospital bed rental service; purchased mattresses are delivered and set up on a scheduled date.

Hospital mattresses are oversized. The Canada-wide free ground-shipping offer on smaller goods does not apply. If the mattress is going outside the GTA, ask us for a freight quote. Inside Toronto and the GTA, White-Glove Delivery (bring-in, unwrap, test, take packaging away) is described on the shipping policy. Any charge is confirmed on your order.

Which beds this mattress fits

Span publishes the Custom Care Convertible for a healthcare bed frame only. Place it on the deck. Do not set it on another mattress. Span says to match length and width to the frame so gaps stay closed.

The 80 by 36 inch mattress (CJ803629) is the size for a standard 36 by 80 homecare deck such as the Drive Delta 1000. The Span America Encore sleep surface runs 35 to 42 inches wide and 76 to 84 inches long, so we match a 36 or 42 inch Custom Care Convertible to the ReadyWide stop in use. A 42 inch mattress (26130 or 95724) is the size for a 42 inch deck such as the Drive 15300LW. The Span America Advantage sleep surface is 35 by 80 inches. Span does not publish a 35 inch Custom Care Convertible, so we size a different Span surface for that deck. See all hospital beds if you are still choosing a frame, and all medical mattresses if you need a different therapy class.

Power: the mattress itself does not need a wall outlet. The 6500 control unit uses 120 V at 60 Hz, 0.4 A. Hang it on the footboard. Plug the supplied cord into a working wall outlet. Span writes not to use an extension cord. Route the four air lines and the cord at the foot of the bed, clear of moving parts and walkways. A green power light means the unit is on. Disconnect mode resets the air system when you take the pump away. The surface keeps its air if the power fails.

Related Span surfaces we already stock: PressureGuard Custom Care Convertible LAL when the plan names low air loss, non-powered Custom Care when no pump port is wanted, and Span-Care Convertible when the therapist named that line. Ask us to add the matching width to the quote.

Service and warranty

When something on the mattress or the control unit needs work, you call the shop that set it up. Westin Healthcare has a service and repairs department. Our technicians come to the home or workplace.

Span America manufacturer warranty

Span lists a 5-year warranty on the Custom Care Convertible mattress, 2 years on the cover, and 2 years on the 6500 control unit. We handle the warranty claim with you. Ask us if an extended warranty is offered for your order.

Frequently asked questions

What is the PressureGuard Custom Care Convertible?

It is Span America's 7 inch air-and-foam therapy mattress with a Star Chamber that stays filled without a pump. Add the 6500 control unit for alternating pressure and lateral rotation. Span sells it in 36 and 42 inch widths, in 75, 80, and 84 inch lengths, plus a recessed-deck cut.

How is this different from Custom Care Convertible LAL, non-powered Custom Care, and Span-Care Convertible?

This card is the standard Custom Care Convertible. It does not have a low-air-loss coverlet. Custom Care Convertible LAL adds Span's Air Diffusion Matrix. Non-powered Custom Care uses Metered Immersion and has no add-on pump. Span-Care Convertible is a different convertible line with its own SC codes. We already stock the LAL, the non-powered Custom Care, and Span-Care Convertible. Ask us if the care team named one of those.

Does this mattress need a pump?

No. It works as a non-powered air surface. Add the 6500 control unit only when the care plan asks for alternating pressure or lateral rotation. The mattress keeps its air if the power fails or if you take the pump away.

What power does the 6500 control unit need?

120 V at 60 Hz, 0.4 A. Plug the supplied cord into a wall outlet. Hang the unit on the footboard. Span writes not to use an extension cord. Keep the cord and the four air lines clear of moving bed parts.

What is the weight rating?

Span lists 500 lb in non-powered mode and 350 lb in powered mode. Tell us the person's weight when you order. If the load is near those figures, ask us about a wider size or a different Span surface rather than stretching this one.

What sizes can I get?

36 inches wide by 75, 80, or 84 inches long, and 42 inches wide by 80 or 84 inches long, all 7 inches high. Codes are CJ753629, CJ803629, CJ843629, 26130, and 95724. Recessed-deck frames take CJ85V29. The default on this page is 80 by 36 inches.

Which beds does the Custom Care Convertible fit?

It fits a healthcare sleep deck that matches the length and width you pick. The 80 by 36 inch mattress matches the Drive Delta 1000 36 by 80 inch deck. A 36 or 42 inch mattress matches those stops on the Span America Encore. A 42 inch mattress matches the Drive 15300LW. Span says to keep the mattress centred on the frame.

Who should not use this mattress?

Span writes that the Custom Care Convertible is not for a person with an unstable spinal cord injury. If the care plan names that condition, call us and we will quote a different surface.

How do I clean the cover?

Wipe it in place with a damp cloth and a hospital-grade phenolic or quaternary disinfectant, then let it air-dry. Span says not to use harsh solvents. Iodophor cleaners can stain the fabric. Use a 7 inch fitted sheet. Keep stacked pads to a minimum.

What is the warranty?

Span lists 5 years on the mattress, 2 years on the cover, and 2 years on the control unit. Westin Healthcare processes the warranty work.

Can funding help pay for this mattress in Ontario?

Ontario's Assistive Devices Program does not cover hospital beds or mattresses. March of Dimes Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada, and community programs may still help, depending on the person. Call (905) 451-7743 or use the funding page before you buy.

What is included?

You get the Span America PressureGuard Custom Care Convertible in the size you pick, with the LifeSpan cover on it. The 6500 control unit is quoted separately when you want powered therapy. The bed frame is sold separately.
