This is a used TDX SP, not a new Invacare build and not the short-term rental chair. Invacare's current new Type 3 bases are the AVIVA line and TDX SP2. Who this chair is for

This chair is for a person who wants a full-size mid-wheel power chair, is within Invacare's 300 lb TDX SP rating, and is happy with a refurbished unit instead of a new prescribed base. Families usually call us when a used TDX SP is the right size and budget, or when they already know this chassis from an earlier chair.

Design and build

Invacare built the TDX SP as a True Center Wheel Drive base. The 2017 sell sheet names SureStep suspension and Stability Lock for six-wheel contact over everyday obstacles, optional G-Trac tracking, and MK6i electronics. Drive wheels are 14 inches. Ground clearance is 2.5 inches.

Seating on a refurbished unit is whatever is on that chair. When the TDX SP was new, Invacare Formula CG and Motion Concepts Ultra Low Maxx were the positioning families, including tilt and recline options. Do not assume this refurbished chair has power tilt, recline, or elevate unless we confirm it on the serial.

The chair does not fold. Official length without front rigging is 35.25 inches. Width is 24.5 inches narrow or 25.5 inches wide. Plan on a van, a lift, or an accessible vehicle if it has to travel.

Is the TDX SP still made?

Invacare moved on to the TDX SP2 and then the AVIVA bases. The TDX SP is a discontinued chassis that we still see as a refurbished unit. A new funded Invacare Type 3 today is an AVIVA or TDX SP2, not this model.

How is a mid-wheel TDX SP different from a transport chair?

A transport chair has small wheels and is pushed by a caregiver. The TDX SP is a full-size centre-wheel power chair the person drives with a joystick. It does not fold into a car trunk.

Who drives it?

The person in the chair, using the joystick. A companion does not push this chair the way they would push a transport chair. Power down and set the brakes before sitting or standing.

What seat size should I pick?

Use Available Seat Sizes for 18 by 18, 20 by 20, or 22 by 22 inches. Measure seated hip width. If those three pairs are not right, call us before you treat another width as available.
